Suno Deko and Julie Byrne at Hardware Cafe

Last night I went on a whim after seeing a blog post by Buffablog ( ) about a show that was gonna happen at Hardware Cafe that night.

I didn't know anything about Julie Byrne, or who else was playing but this guy opened up before her and it was an awesome time. He was an unexpected treat, and her performance was haunting. It left me feeling full and romantic. I had a great night. I bought both of their music.

Sadly, I got no photos. I guess I was too into it. Mickey and I decided that the male performer that night would have made an appropriate 3rd for us, but he was super unavailable, so i got over it him really quick after making a few attempts at conversation. It was mostly just a fun thing to entertain than it was an actual decision or attempt, so it didn't matter either way.

I forgot to talk about the food! We both had dinner at hardware before the show. I had the duck brest with fig, and he had the porch chop. Mine was amazingly delicious. I can't recommend it enough. Mickey's was good too, but I only had a bite.

___

This semester is coming to a close soon! I'm a little nervous, but I think I'll pull through.

After explaining a few things to my professors, they have been a little more lenient with me and allowing me to turn things in a bit later than other students.

My situation isn't really bad, but every once in a while it all just hits me at once, and the medication I'm on has a known side effect of causing mood swings and amplifying certain emotions like depression or anger and also sex drive. So sometimes it's just a lot for me to handle all at once and I kinda don't go to school for a week and no one knows because I don't really talk about it. Not because I don't think anyone would understand, but because I just feel guilty or ashamed or under too much persona pressure to let it out.

maybe writing here again will be a proper outlet for that.

MGMT at Art Park, June 19, 2013

I can however say on a lighter note, that I went with (e:paul) to MGMT at Art Park, and even though the sound system was not great and the performance itself was lackluster, i still had fun. I felt slightly numb to an extent, until a bit later in the evening. I think i was honestly in shock and hadn't quite adjusted to being back home after everything. I came out of my shell a little more, later.

The show ended and we ran along some trails along the river. I've never been to art park. it was nice, i'd go again just to be on the trails.

We were supposed to meet Rita and Brian there, but there was no fucking way i was gonna find them.

New Sigur Rós

I know some of you are sigur rós fans... Has anyone else seen this yet? I really really love it.

They've dropped a member, and their sound has changed a bit (they seem to have gotten a bit harder), but it is still unmistakably them. The sounds are more metalic, and the drums have gotten more intense.

here's a better example of the range of difference in their change

Last Wednesday: Purity Ring

last Wednesday I went to see Purity Ring. It was amazing. a coworker/friend Corina, (e:xandra), (e:yesthatcasey), (e:terry), (e:paul), and Rita all went as well. unfortunately, i left my phone at home and could take NO pics... i don't think any one else but paul posted photos? (e:paul,57461)

the opener, Blue Hawaii, started as kind of a snooze but then picked up pretty quickly. I ended up really liking them... a lot. it was kind of like grimes meets young magic, but with more structure, and better to dance to. here's their bandcamp. Her voice has an intensity live that is lacking a bit her recordings. I prefer the live better.

Purity Ring was even better in Buffalo than they were in NYC at the Hammerstein, back in january. In jan, it sounded more close to the album, but in Buffalo i could see that they had made an effort to mix things up. they performed at least one new song, or cover. i thought someone said it was a cover, but i couldn't recognize it.

the night ended strangely... we tried to go to tranceformation, but we got the date wrong, and ended up at broadway joes for a hardcore show with men punching air. it was surreal. then we went to cathode, where NO music was playing, and everyone lurched to stare at us when we walked in, and everyone just seemed generally annoyed... so we quickly left and went to Q which was also strange, but there was a juke box, so i guess we stayed because of that. the bar tender was a total douche.

Rita drove me home and i stayed up thinking for a couple hours.
