yummy in my tummy

I'm obessed with making this lately...

MK's (current) Favorite Dessert:

1 large bowl of Jell-O Instant Vanilla Pudding (directions are on box)
A fairly ripe banana (or 2), sliced
A box of Nilla wafers

Combine ingredients in a large bowl in the following manner:

(from bottom of bowl)
Layer 1 - Nilla Wafers (whole)
Layer 2 - Pudding
Layer 3 - Banana slices (with a few Nilla Wafers crumbled on top)

Repeat layers until ingredients are gone and/or bowl is full.

Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate before eating (unless you can't wait that long).

...Heaven. It's even better after it's been refrigerated for a couple days.

Yesterday was my first adventure in substitute teaching. It was actually totally fine, it was really easy. I only did half a day. Hooray for me.

This morning I was called again to substitute for a high school boy's gym class. I declined for the obvious reason that that would be the worst thing ever.

I got my hair cut and my hairdresser talked me into buying expensive hair gel. Hopefully it will make an enormous difference in my life.

ps I do have another job so that when I decline substitute teaching jobs I don't just sit on my ass. Okay well I actually do but I get paid to do it. Working at an office is entertaining enough when I'm busy but I will be glad to not have to do it every day.

I like to run.

I get to see Renee Fleming's dress rehearsal at Kleinhan's for free by pretending to still be a student at Fredonia. I'm excited, as long as I don't run into a certain individual. Read about Renee.

I'm acquaintances with her half brother. I actually don't even love her voice but she's like the most famous soprano in the world so it's pretty great to see her for free.

As usual I will end with some pictures summing up my entry. (By usual I mean I have done this like twice before.)

Pick my business card for me!

I think I've talked about this before, but I'm thinking of getting business cards made. I would like lots of opinions. I know I should probably put more information on it, like, offers voice lessons, wants to sing professionally (like be hired for weddings/funerals, etc.) but anyway this is just an outline.

Names and addresses have been changed to protect the innocent.

So pick a number and tell me which you think is the nicest, most professional, most like my personality, etc. Thanks : )

And personally i think you'd have to be careful with any sort of music-y theme- I fear it would be too easy to come across as amateur or juvenile. But that's just me, and I have no creative talent whatsoever... I dunno... how to stand out without going overboard. I think understated is better. Subtle ink color or a different font. maybe a vertical orientation... That all said, I probably like 1 and 2 the best. 3 the least. That's my 2 cents...

The one thing I know is that you want your card to stand out. If your cards are only going to be for music jobs then you should work music into the card somehow. Maybe the use of a music symbol of somekind either raised or engraved on the card maybe even in a light reflective color so that it is seen but dosn't jump out. I am a fan of contrasting colors so that everything sticks out and is super clear. Sometimes high contrast can look really nice but to much can look kinda chessy.

In general, the less information on a bussines card, the more complicated the background can be. If there is nothing further on the card, then #4 is about at its max when it comes to design. Anything else tends to be too busy looking and too often, dismissed, or some of the information is overlooked.

It also depends on how you are printing them. If the colour goes all the way to the edges like #4, it is called a "full bleed" and printers will charge you way more for it. It means that one card can't be printed on a sheet of paper right beside the other, and it involves way more cutting, and useage of paper, and therefore, more money. Of course, if you are doing them at home on your comp's printer, that is entirely moot.

I tend to like business cards that are a bit unusual, but that is just me. I like the idea (e:Kara) mentioned, with my own twist...

How about an eighth note screened down in the background, with your information in the same colour, but at 100% density, with the orinentation vertical instead of the horizontal ones you have? It will encorporate the eighth note really well, i think. And with only one colour (like say, i dunno, royal purple?), it will appear as though you have 2 -- a lighter and a darker, which will cost a lot less at the printers.

Why not try to incorporate some musical notation, like a G clef. One element on the card, big and bold, would me more memorable than blocks of (pretty) colors.

You need a title to publish

I really, really love peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Like I truly get sad when I look down and there's less than half the sandwich left. It's just such a great combination of tastes. (Sidenote, another favorite combination I enjoy is movie theater popcorn and Coke...it has to be Coke...not Diet and not Pepsi...)

I am going to run races starting in March and I'm really pumped about it. The next thing I have to do to reach this goal is either buy more winter running gear or join a gym, but (e:Mike) is indecisive about our gym prospects. Fortunately he just called me and sounds pretty set on joining Terrie's gym. Frankly as long as it doesn't cost TOO much money and they have treadmills and spinning classes, that's all I care about!

Dinner Party Fun

So a week and 2 days after, here are some samples of the dinner party - one of the most fun nights I've had in awhile! I love getting together with the old gang.

happy new year

So it's been over a month since my last post, and yes (e:Mike) I will put up pictures soon but my computer here is too slow and the pictures are huge soooo I'll have to make them smaller and then they will be up!

Anyways until then I wanted to post the fun news that my friend Nicole asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding and I'm really excited : ) I thought I'd post a picture of the dresses she's probably going to have.
