Spare time.

So, with Eli's surgery and me taking some time off of work, there was some significant downtime when the kids were asleep, or during the evenings, etc. I decided to clean up and move my computer stuff/desk/etc to a new area of the house.

Here is my previous desk.

And here is my new and improved desk. Much more functional, a tad more spacious, and a bit more decorative (thanks to my wife). And organized!

It'll do! :)

New Car! And dinner out!

For a long time now, our car situation was causing us some troubles. Mainly we didn't have enough room for our 2 kids and all the crap we take everywhere to accommodate every possible variation or difficulty that could happen (I shoulda been a boy-scout).

Anyways, here is the story: apparently my wife's sister recently bought a van for her growing family and just so happened to bring my wife along to help pick up the new vehicle. Makes sense so far.

My loving sister-in-law talks up the new van for a week or so, my wife and I have felt the need to grow out of our current car into something bigger (despite the gas prices, yikes). So, with our current state of family growth and my sister-in-law's slight pushing to go shop for a car... she offers to take Carolyn (my wife) for some test drives while I watch the kids @ home. Again, no problem, all is well. No worries.

I get a call from my wife. Who says they found an affordable car fitting all our needs. We talk for a bit and come to the conclusion, "sure, why not. buy it". Problem solved, all is well.

Carolyn tells me this morning when I get up that her sister is taking us out to dinner on Friday night. I said "great!, whats the occasion?". Apparently my sister-in-law got $200 for a referral for us buying our new car and felt guilty about it and wants to treat us.

This Friday night, I am totally buying the most expensive meal available wherever we go. Ha!

Oh, the new family vehicle is a 2005 Buick Rendezvous. Yay!

My son had surgery over the weekend

My son, Eli, had surgery over the weekend to repair his cleft pallet (roof of the mouth). Ouch! He has been "just ok" ever since the anesthesia wore off. He's so cute, but I feel bad for him.

image

He looks pretty sad, this was taken a couple days ago. I hear from my wife that he is doing better today. =)

Google

So yeah, I'm sitting here at my desk at work and I get a phone call:

"Hi. Is this Jon Kiddy? My name is Kevin, I'm from Google and I'd like to talk to you about a document you downloaded regarding Corporate Compliance. Are you able to make decisions regarding compliance at Roswell Park?"

I said, yeaaaah, I just browsed a document on compliance recently (I think yesterday) about compliance for PCI regarding SSL. But I'm just a programmer, just hunting down some info like I do everyday as part of my job when needed.

He said, oh ok. Can I send a follow up email to you to pass along to your superiors regarding corporate compliance?

Sure, why not...

So yeah, I then get an email sent to my Roswell email (which I never game them) saying thanks for the small talk, here is his contact info. Apparently Kevin is the Regional Marketing Representative for North America from Google Enterprise...

I mean, where did this guy get my phone number, my email, and my name from? And more importantly, how did he know I was looking up that stuff recently?

Well, as a programmer, it is easy to guess where since Google is slowly taking over the world one Google Search at a time.

Scary stuff, imo.

Step-brother's wedding

This past Saturday my step-brother got hitched.

When my brother first mentioned that he wanted to get married on my parents property I thought to myself that it might be a bad idea, since the grounds weren't in good shape. However, since then, my step-brother and step-father spent a lot of time and money making the grounds wedding worthy. I think they did a terrific job. I wish I had before and after pictures to post.

Working out... yeee haaw.

So, I decided to get my butt into the gym and have been going steadily for almost two weeks now. (I've had a membership at the BAC for months, so I didn't jump in on the local program you guys are into.) Anyways, after deciding to do this regularly, I apparently have time in my schedule to go 6 days a week.

So here is how I'm currently breaking up my weekly routine.

Monday: jogging outside around my neighborhood (during the summer)
Tuesday: gym (upper body workout)
Wednesday: jogging outside again
Thursday: gym (lower body workout)
Friday: swimming
Saturday: gym (upper body workout)
Sunday: rest

However, I'm no expert when it comes to this kind of stuff... anyone have suggestions? I'm such a workout newbie.

(e:enknot) says I should be focusing on eating better. I should probably do some research on this one of these nights.

Anyways, I'm pumped about going back (pun intended, hur hur).

The next "green" fuel... is petrol?

Scientists find bugs that eat waste and excrete petrol.

Wow! Investors are flocking to this company (LS9) who created genetically modified bacteria who excrete crude oil. It sounds like Sci-fi or something crazy.
