My Time

Well teaching an online course seems to take more time than a real life one. According to Jesse's time clock I have been in the course world online for 158 hours so far.

Neverending Story

I finally finished scripting my turtles and disco ball for the SL course. I also started selling glasses and touched up my living room. I spent the whole day trying to finsish reading the manual for SL scripting so that I could explain it to other people. I really have a knack for that. Reading manuals and then explainign them. Sometimes, I can't believe that other people don't do this. I can't tell you for exmaple how many people coe to me with really basic Adobe Photoshop orblems. Say for example, "How do I turn a path in to a selection?" I usually ask, "Have you consulted the manual and/or help files?" and they 99% of the time say no, its too confusing. I finad manuals to be the easiest reading on earth. There is no bullshit, no opinions, etc. Just hard afct on how something is done. Espcecially now that almsot every manual is online and serachable or at least in PDF.

Basically, scripting in Second Life is like programming in C. I like it a lot. Programming makes me very very very happy. Each time I discover a new way to do something, I get a little rush. Eventually it becomes like a drug when I set a loftly good for myself and then reach it. Which lead sto a loftier goal, which is then met and so on, untill I get to a really hard problme and then I start getting completion withdrawl. I love the compelting feeling.

I realy think programming makes you smarter, as well. Logic tastes so much better than anything for my brain.

For those of you that don't program at all, I suggest trying it. i didn't used to but honestly, it really makes you feel good about yourself and its great fun to see your artwork become dynamic and responsive. I wish I had just started a little earlier.

If you do any sort of computer artwork, give it a try. You won't regret it.

This is my disco stand. It sells bracelts which make it easy for your avatar to dance. See my tempreal journal for more information about these projects.

My new Living Room.

My online turtle pets. What a little aplha channel and a lot of scripting can do!! These cute little pets follow your avatar around. They were a great learning exercise for me and also a great money maker.

image

This is where I sell them.

image

Unfortunately, while testing the code for the turtles, I made a mistake a one of the turles, litterly blew up.

image

One of the avatars who was their said it looked like a suicide lemming. The things circled in red are its finger nails and little parts that blew off. It was really sad. Even though its not real I was starting to get attached to it. It could tell me it loved me, follow me around, wait for me in places, say its initals in binary, etc. Luckily it was a binary pet and I have unlimited didgital copies of it.

What type of implication would there be if I had unlimited digital copies of a real pet. Would I share them on the internet. Cyberpets! Maybe there is a market there. I seemed to really get attached to mine. Kind of like a tomogochi. I guess There.com already has cyberpets.

More Requests

It seems like everyday more people are asking me to do them favors - computer style mostly and offering me trivial amounts of money in return. I am really busy. No Mike, this is not about Tim. I do not have any extra time to take on additional projects.

Italy Here I Come

Today was my mother's birthday party and our family valentine's party at my Grandmother's house. It was the first opportunity I had with my mother, at my Grandmother's recently, where we could find all the paperwork for my Italian citizenship campaign. I will be an EU citizen in no time, I hope.

If it proves too difficult for me to get it, both my mother and father have the possibility of claiming it as well. Either way, I am going to get it.

The following paperwork is what I needed and I have it now.

My Grandmother's Birth Certificate

My Grandfather's Brth Certificate

Taking Advantage of a Disabled Avatar

image
This guy's avatar was victim to a bug that kept him in jet ski pose even after leaving the jet ski. Its the same problem I had with the hoverboard script, but the pose is far worse. At least in our I looked like zombies.

Anyways, my new online friend from Trebor's class and I couldn't help ourselevs taking dirty pictures of him and posting them on the web. hahahaha. image

Wine Bottle Security

I spent the rest of the day working on highly secret security scripts. Some of them I will share with you. Others are top secret. Even the people that think they no have no idea where its at.

The ones that are open for everyone are the wine bottle scripts. You can check them out in tempreal town on the little metal table with the wine bottles.

image

The green one is a bottle that likes to travel. Each time it gets taken out of somebodies inventory list, it send a messgae to the original owner as to where it located. When its clicked on, it sends an IM to it current owner telling them that someone has clicked on it and the name of the region. I the bottle is taken out in certain regions, namely, Argent, Slate, or Jesse, the bottle give a little commentary.

This script has a lot of potential to track the flow of peoples models and to tell stories.

The next two wine bottle, the purple and the blue one, are slef-destructing bottles. They will self destruct if taken out of inventory in any region other than their defined home region. The purple one is from Argent and the blue one is from Slate. If you take a copy of either of them, and then try and take them out in a land other than the one they originated from, they will self-destruct. This is a great script to add to models that we want people to be able to play with in tempreal town (Argent) and not just anywhere.

Scripting in Discoland

I spent about 12 hours in SL today. I decided to master scripting and write about it for this review I am doing. I ended up finsihing my disco script.

image
Currenly, it works like this. The user clicks on a giant admission bracelet and then receives a mini wearable bracelet. Thereafter, everytime the user clicks on the disco ball , while wearing the mini admission bracelet, their avatar does one of a series of 10 dances.

image

Its great to watch everybody dance in sync with each other. It made us look like a boy band.

Missing Image ;(

I hope that some people start designing a disco soon for our event test/quiz!!! I expect to see at leats 50 avatars come to it. So we need modelres to start getting our party going. If anyone els ewould liek to work on the scripts, I would like to teach someone about it.

Rosa Parks

She is cute. She changed history. This is the kind of person that we need more of. FOr those of you that don't rememeber, Rosa Parks is the lady that refused to ride on the back of the segregated bus system and got arrested.

image

Quote from the The
Troy State University Montgomery
Rosa Parks Library and Museum Site

"On December 5, 1955, four days after her arrest, Mrs. Parks was found guilty and the Montgomery bus boycott began. In response to her conviction, the African-American community in Montgomery boycotted the city bus line. Instead they walked or banded together to organize alternate transportation. The boycott continued strong until 381 days later when the United States Supreme Court ruled the segregation of bus service to be unconstitutional."

I question if this kind of tactic would work here in Buffalo, if ever used for any reason. Not that the buses are segregated, I just mean that if anyone boycotted public transportation for any reason, I think they would just shut it down. That's sad, there is no leverage anymore.

On another note, TK told me that during his school days, the buses were still segragated, albeit, voluntarily. My question is "WWRD?"
