Camping RecommendationsCategory: nature
Does anyone know of anywhere to camp within a few hours of Buffalo that:
1. Allows dogs at the camp site
2. Isn't too crazy packed
We're thinking of going away for a day or two next weekend, but are stumped.

I like Hamlin Beach State Park outside of Rochester. They allow dogs on selected campsites. You may have trouble getting a reservation? reserveamerica.com is how to book. If you are interested let me know and I'll see if I can find out which campsite I stayed at cause it was nice.
:::link:::
That is a pic of devil's nose. It is illegal to go up there, but I used to do it all the time. Some people get busted, but everytime I went there it seemed as if i were in paradise. Hamlin Beach is on Lake Ontario, so if you don't mind a bit of the o'l ECOLI than you can take a dip.
Also Dansville is sure bet

I think we will do Alleghany - they still have cabins available in late August.

Allegeny National Forest is cool with dogs, but is a little bit crowded.

Well.... I know the rescue that I work with is having a get-together in Erie, PA in a couple weeks, at this place. :::link:::
I haven't really checked it out yet, but I certainly assume it's dog friendly if they're meeting there. Not sure about camping in tents, but I think they have cabins or something. And I don't know about crowds... but it's about 1 1/2 hr away....

Nice pictures by the way, looks like a good time. I don't like when things conflict. Don't get me wrong I had a great time at my concert but at the same time there is still that part of me when I was there that wanted to have cooked something and been hanging out hope you all had a great time.

Uhm... that's not the same fruit salad that myself and (e:Theecarey) were in charge of once, is it? One with more vodka than fruit? No... looks like everyone kept their clothes on for this one...

Lunch FiascoCategory: restaurants
I will never go to Gabriel's Gate again. We got there at 12:15 today, and spent the next hour waiting for our food. We kept hearing the people around us complaining, and it seemed like everyone was eventually getting their food after about 45 minutes. The waitress wasn't even stopping to check in on us or explaining the delay - and it wasn't very crowded, there looked to be plenty of wait staff there.
So, an hour in, and the waitress comes by and tells us our food will be up soon - and THEN another FIFTEEN MINUTES later - I see her with the cook, and the cook is showing her on the computer that she put our order in wrong - IE, she didn't put it in at all - and it took her 75 minutes to realize that.
So, we left - just paid for our drinks and left.
Here is (e:James) at Gabriel's Gate:
We went down the street to Coulter Bay Grill, and the waitress took pity on us and gave us some free cornbread and expedited our order so we got our food super fast.
Here is (e:James) finally eating lunch at Coulter Bay:
I used to love Gabriel's Gate - was there all the time, had lots of fun - but the past couple years it's been a wretched place to go. Never again, for me.
Also- we stopped at Guercios's, and I found the largest chocolate bar ever:
I think I am in love.

You'd think if he wanted me to love him, he'd be made out of chocolate too.

that stinks. I usually love Gabriel's Gate. One time when (e:mk) was housesitting for this lady she knew, they found like 7 bars of chocolate that size in the cupboards. Now that is an addiction!

Thats terrible - I love Gabriel's Gate too and recommend it to out of town friends when they visit and want something that the locals enjoy. Sounds like their servers are incompetent!

As I was there helping out.
Yes, Ladycroft wins the prize. It is just an isle runner to make things look more fancy.
and the structure is the Unitarian Church at Elmwood and W. Ferry. The beams in the ceiling are amazing. Please sneak in when you have the chance to gawk and take a look.

i don't beleive you jim. i, too think it goes to your secret locker.
i'll go a step further and assert that you are a russian spy. where is the microfilm???
It's got a little display, and when I press its button, it gives me a number that lets me log into my online banking. It's a different number every time - I am not sure how it's generated.
What is a bank security dongle thing? Is it used to remotely open and close your ultra-secret locker at the Main Street HSBC?
