Batteries

Figuring they could sell parts on the black market, two men broke into an auto shop and stole six batteries and five carburetors. As the two were making their getaway, their car broke down. The duo called a tow truck and were immediately reported by the driver. It was later found out that the car broke down because the battery had died.
They shoiuld have at least used the batteries they stole to get the car working.. What people will do for a extra buck. If they were so short of money why did they waste some on trying to call a tow truck. Those things cost a arm and a leg. unless they paniced and were too afraid to use the objects they stole out in the open. Anyway the two are getting what is coming to them. At least its just a petty crime situation where no one could have been hurt.

boy driver

Kentucky
An inebriated teen decided to take the family car to the local convenience store in an attempt to buy some more spirits. After owners of the store would not give the boy what he wanted, he left the store only to find that the car would not start. Knowing that he would be in serious trouble if he did not quickly get home, the boy stole the police car a few yards from him. As he is driving home in the cruiser, a police officer spotted the boy and turn on his sirens. Not wanting to upset the officer, the boy pulled over. He was quickly placed under arrest and taken to the local jail.

Just a simple case of fear can lead people in all kinds of directions. Even those that will cause serious problems. The boy was stupid enough to take the car let alone the cop car. Now lets see how much he'll be in trouble now.

Vermont

Women must obtain written permission from their husbands to wear false teeth.

I am surprised to see this law in the United States of all countries. You would think it would be in one where woman were treated terrible. Yes the U.S does have its limitations on how it treats woman as men are treated but other countries are far more worse. a woman who needs false teeth is a woman of age and you'd think by now she has the rights to where them if she wanted to.

Spray paint

Law: One must be 18 years old to buy spray paint.
Country: United States
City: Tempe
Citation: Sec. 22-103. Limiting access to graffiti implements.
(a) No person other than a parent or legal guardian shall sell, exchange, give, loan, or otherwise furnish, or cause or permit to be exchanged, given, loaned, or otherwise furnished, any graffiti implement to any person under the age of eighteen (18) years.
(b) Evidence that a person, his or her employee, or agent demanded and was shown acceptable evidence of majority and acted upon such evidence in a transaction or sale shall be a defense to any prosecution under this section. Acceptable evidence of majority shall include, but is not limited to, driver's license, state-issued identification or military identification.
(c) This section does not apply to the transfer of graffiti implements from parent to child, guardian to ward, employer to employee, teacher to student or in any other similar relationship when such transfer is for a lawful purpose.
(d) Violation of this section is a class 1 misdemeanor.
(Ord. No. 97.66, 12-11-97)

This law is self expanitory. What age brackets usually paint crap all over walls and sides of objects. I think this is a good law but probably makes little sense to the majority of the population since many find graffitti issues not that big of a deal. Spary paint can also be a useful substance in "Getting High" I guess. So thats another situation this law stops.

Oregan

Dishes must drip dry.

The "Peer Review Statute" prohibits you from finding out details of any written or oral discussion about your medical treatment. Not even a court of law can. All you can access is what the doctor or nurse voluntarily records in your chart.

It is illegal to whisper "dirty" things in your lover's ear during sex.

Ice cream may not be eaten on Sundays.

It is illegal to buy or sell marijuana, but it is legal to smoke it on your own property.

One may not bathe without wearing "suitable clothing," i.e., that which covers one's body from neck to knee.

Canned corn is not to be used as bait for fishing.

Drivers must yield to pedestrians who are standing on the sidewalk.

One may not test their physical endurance while driving a car on a highway.

It is illegal to place a container filled with human fecal matter on the side of any highway.
The majority of these laws don't seem to make much sense. Ones such as let dishes drip dry and wispering in lover's ear are things that should be optional and not be regarded as things that are prohibited. That and the fact that these things are not really noticable by law enforcement since they are in the privacy of one's home.

Norway

Law: Beverages containing more than 4.75% alcohol may not be sold on election days.
Country: Norway
Explanation: In the early 1900s, many workers were drunk on election days, greatly swerving their judgement. To ensure citizens keeping a clear mind when voting for public officials, this law was passed.

This law makes sense and probably shouldn't go as far as stating it can't be sold on those days. It should be "One who votes shouldn't drink". Considering everyone doesn't vote and business is slightly altered. The issue doesn't bother me since I do not drink and do not live in Norway in the 1900s. This law should probably still be in effect since it can still relate to today's day and age.

Couches in Colorado

Law: Couches may not be placed on outside porches.
Country: United States
State/Province: Colorado
City: Boulder
Explanation: The University of Colorado in Boulder is renowned for its party atmosphere. In the most recent edition of the Princeton Review (2003), it was ranked the number one party school in the US. A common tradition at the University is to burn couches following big events (i.e. winning a football game). To curb this potentially dangerous activity, an ordinance was passed to discourage such actions.

I can't exactly say this law is stupid because it was created to stop someone else that is doing something stupid. Most laws are created from someone doing something the first time and the government wants to prevent it from happening again. Sports fans and events bring the worst things out for the sake of their team. The fans of the Raiders a few years ago tipped over cars just because they won the conferance game. Imagine what they would have done if they had won the Spuer Bowl. The couches are safe but what about other things the fans can resort to setting on fire. The law exists for a reason but is not very specific towards anything besides a couch.
