Where the wild things are Metal
Category: movies
First of all Happy Sweetest day to all, my treat to my self is the Sabres game, and not the 2nd chance prom. I didn't know it was sweetest day when I bought the ticket, I wonder if the sabres will have any promotion about it?

Last night I saw an interesting documentary on Sundance Channel called "Heavy Metal In Baghdad". I missed like the 1st 5 minutes. I wish I could spell out the name of the band but it is Latin so I looked it up Acrassicauda (Black Scorpion) . I think they are a pretty good band and the movie is pretty good. I can admit it changes some of my thought about Iraq. The Movie's web site

The intersrting this is that Spike Jonze worked on the film and also on "Where the Wild things Are" that I saw earlier in the day. I thought it was good, creepy, dark and very angry but think that is was good. I think a lot of people get being max and I won't say anymore or give anything away.

Hallloween ?
So I have no idea what I want to dress up as. Well I have some ideas but they wouldn't work for a bunch of reasons.

I wish I could go as a few Characters from Truebllood. The problem is none of them are really distinctive.

I would love to go as an NHL Goalie. That would be awesome except for the cost of everything and walking around in the equipment and carring the net. Do they make water bottles that shoot alcohol out of.

I do have a thing for Vampires and that might be cool but I was one last year. To Bad I don't have some really booby girl then we could really do the costume up.

I don't like political costumes, but who knows.

I could all ways get a cowboy Hat, tear up some Jeans and some sun glasses and dye yellow streaks in it and be Rob Zombie.

I guessing I'll go as what ever I like at party city. But wish I could come up with something really cool.
metalpeter - 10/15/09 19:40
Well there are some chicks that if I could pull it off could be pretty cool. But I can't really think of any off hand that would work. That being said there are a few problems.

1. Don't want to wear a dress
2. My shaver leaves slight hair
3. Been Called mam by mistake (people assume with the long hair) Hello ever heard of any metal band, or ever watched wrestling or even seen a couple country singers, ARGH.
4. What do I do if some dude hits on me?
5. What if some chick thinking I'm a chick hits on Me?

Who Knows Maybe with a New Nightmare on Elmstreet I could go as Freedy?

One example of the girl that might work if it didn't cost so much is a goth/Fetish chick. Dark black Shiny out fit or some style of clothes lots of fake Tattoos and that fetish hair. Only one problem once I saw how hot I was I wouldn't be able to leave, HA.

I wonder if any places have costumes for members of the Magesterim in the New Twilgiht Movie. Any thing authentic like star wars or things like that, that can be used for conventions also are often pricy. Make in an Animee and it really goes up. Ah who knows.
ladycroft - 10/15/09 02:24
i second tiny. you should go as a chick, have someone curl up your hair a little bit and make sure you shave :)
tinypliny - 10/14/09 20:29
I say, YOU should be the booby girl.

Zombieland
Category: movies
I went to see zombieland today and had a great time. I thought it was good and violent. Plus there where hot Chicks. Plus it was very funny, not sure if it was supposed to be, but others laughed as well. Plus there was a part I liked after the credits. I can't say anything about it other then that it goes back to part of the movie. Woody played a great role in this he really did.

Also for you fans of Horror I saw a preview for Nightmare On Elm street, it looks really good. I don't think it is the story going on, but maybe it is, I'm guessing it is a remake or a different take on the story. Oh Yeah Legion looks amazing also. Hey nothing like a movie where you have people fighting Angles sent by god to wipe out Humans.

I thought I would share some pictures of the changing Elmwood area from before the movie. The KFC is supposed to be coming down but not sure when. There is a new place across from the redone laundry place. I admit I should have got a picture of that also.

I thought it was Funnier then "The Hangover". I liked the hangover but the problem was that most of the funny parts where just longer versions of what was shown in all the previews. Well except for how it ended with the pictures and some other stuff. I did see Superbad but never would have known Jules from it was Wichita, maybe I need to go back and re watch superbad( assuming it is still on cable). In Terms of the Main Kid I have seen him in other stuff but can't think of what movies or shows. I want to say in a show called Freaks and Geeks but that might not be right.
jenks - 10/11/09 09:20
I saw zombieland last night too- enjoyed it. And yes, we stayed to watch all the credits to check on the music- and had that little bonus. Glad we saw it.

And it took me a minute to figure out who Wichita was, but it was driving me nuts... til I finally realized she's Jules from Superbad.

The main kid reminds me of Michael Cera.

Someone described it as "the funniest movie since the hangover"... not sure if I'd go that far. But I definitely liked it.

1st vlog
Category: vlog

The thing with that above video is that it is like 22 minutes long and it is of me doing a video blog from my shower. Sorry to you girls and boys there is no nudity and that is also a blessing to you all as well. It seems either the water is to loud or I'm not loud enough. Now there are other ways to shoot video but not sure how really, I guess different quality?

I mostly talked about relaxing in the shower and how that is important. That lead into how cameras might alter reality on TV and for Documentaries. Hey check it out for a few and maybe pause it or fast forward it or what ever. One thing I did wind up wondering about is if there is a market to get people to watch police cameras from other cities? Cities have web cams so why not set up a way that people can watch those over the internet.
metalpeter - 10/11/09 10:13
I don't expect anyone to watch any thing I put on YouTube. The reason I did that is that when you upload stuff to (e:strip) that little box doesn't see the video. The last camera I had I think shot videos in quicktime and they couldn't be found by (e:strip) either. It is to bad they took it down. I assumed that when I uploaded it I didn't get any warning message so I thought it might stay up. I prefer blog to vlogging and don't think I would do it much. It was more of an idea of something I might try. ON a side note there is no way this video is going up on facebook. That being said it is nice to know that I do have a way to put of videos, not sure what I would video, not like they let me backstage at strip clubs or anything.
vincent - 10/10/09 23:12
Ah man they yanked you for being over 10 min :-(

I've been thinking of buying a real camera myself, but as a bit too shy to vlog. I guess the only way I could do it is to turn off the comments.

Man Vs. Earth Vs. Science
So I'm trying to reconstruct I blog from thoughts I had this morning during a shower. I don't think the video blog thing would have worked last time the video was to long for youtube. So here goes.

What got me thinking about this was some of Jenks and My Comments on the flu shot aka Swine Flu shot. I get that nurses and other health care professionals don't want to be forced to get the shot and there really are some good reasons for that. But I also get that NYS (only state with this plan by the way) wants to stop a killer outbreak of Swine flu.

Lets say I catch swine flu and have 30 clients and just think oh I'm sick who cares or don't stay home soon enough. The flu I have I then pass onto 30 people. That doesn't mean it will kill them all, but it could. Now those 30 people all have family or at least some of them do so it gets passed to them and the trend goes on and on. That is an example for people who go see clients.

Now Imagine I work at a Hospital. I pass the flu to patients I see, doctors I talk to, other nurses, people who serve food, and so on and so on. This could be very dangerous not to mention that any one else who I give it to could pass it on to others. I know that in surgery they have all these things so you don't infect the patient but what if you come into the the hospital into the OR or ER and what kills you isn't that you where in a car wreck but that when there you got the swine flu.

This takes me to the point I'm kinda going to try and make. Maybe a good Pandemic is what the world needs. Before I make that point I just want to add that yeah death sucks. When someone dies it is bad and it hurts everyone around that person. But you kinda have to set that off to the side for this.

This World is way overpopulated. Granted China is packed and Canada has lots of land no one really uses for anything. This causes all kinds of problems. Like China's one child policy. People starving because there isn't enough food. Well there is enough and it is really how it is distributed.

I'm not going to look up stats about how humans pollute and destroy the earth, that would make this a research paper and not a blog. I'm not going to get into the global warming debate. It is a theory and will stay that way really because no one was around when we went through global warming the last time, so there aren't number to compare the earth's cycle them vs. now. What I will say it is an old idea (like mine) that was around before Gore presented it as his. See he tries to make it a political issue instead of a moral issue, he uses it for his own gain, or at least that is what I think. Just had to mention that theories do get proven. You don't hear to much about dis-proven ones. But I think those ideas do make great entertainment things the Fringe, X-files, Stargate, and others. The Point is that there is a lot of things in science that just aren't know yet for sure and theory and some things that used to be facts have been disproven as science got better.

It doesn't matter if you believe god created us or we where some other animal and we changed some where. The fact remains that Humans are a type of animal, a mammal if I remember my science correctly. We are highest on the food chain and there is nothing wrong with that. We are there for a reason, I say because we can figure out stuff like fire and making buildings. But that great mind we have also leads to a lot of destruction and destroying the balance of the world. So maybe we should be gone or at least have a lot less numbers to rebalance the earth a bit. (again this isn't a new idea this is an old idea). This idea has been used in movies and books and anime .

Hasn't Tonawanda Coke been in the news a lot lately. How about ridding Snowmobiles and other off road vehicles and messing up where animals live. How about all the garbage we make a year and bury underground. We seem to do a lot of stuff that slowly kills this planet and the animals that where here before us. Again both creation and evolution have them being here before us, so we are killing their planet. That is another thing that pisses me off. When people mention the end of the earth they mean humans. Yes most of the time they don't mean all the animals so that means only humans count, ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Science has come up with many things that help us and make us better but aren't really good for the earth. Best example I can think of is the car. Hey what is wrong with a bike it keep you in shape or horses pulling a buggy if you have to carry stuff. Cars put all kinds of nasty stuff into the air. Yes so did trains. But the difference is that trains where used by a lot of people to go one place from another that would have been very tough by say a bike or some other method. But really who needed a car when they where invented? No One.

I will admit that there where a lot of nasty diseases that I don't know what they do and how they work but you didn't want cause they would kill you and it wouldn't be a quick one either. It is great that humans say, fuck you we are going to beat you and that they try. But isn't it odd that then another one comes along that tries to wipe out more people. I think that is because there is supposed to be a balance of nature. I'm not saying there is a god called mother earth and she balances thing cause if there was she isn't doing a good job. But doesn't it seem odd that when you cure something something else comes along. I can admit that Cancer is awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I don't think there will ever be a cure. I think the same thing is true of HIV. The reason I say this is when I was in either High School or maybe college they had all this info on HIV and also about cancer. Even with all that they knew about it they still couldn't stop it. Yes they can kill cancer but that doesn't mean that it won't come back. Often that is what happens. I hope someone figures out how to stop it and I hope that Man vs. Nature in this one man wins.

Man has all ways tried to fight his limitations. Flying is a great example. Yes this is often for good. Like nets in Africa to stop the bugs that spread Melleria . But so much of what we have done is killing the earth and having all kinds of bad effects. I do think some of this crazy weather and storms and because of humans throwing of the balance but not all of them.

I would say that I think SARS and now Swine Flu might be a sign that people should look it, and make it a way to change. Or maybe the HIV virus will mutate in a form that it is even harder to find so that people who have it can pass it to more people and then once it is in your system for 10 years or a certain thing happens it kicks in and kills you.

If anyone made it to the bottom of this I would be surprised. Of course things sound different in your head cause you can just jump to another thought and then you have to try and remember it and make it make sense.
metalpeter - 10/16/09 18:14
Where to Start?

(e:heidi) I can admit that I don't know about all the problems getting people food. I know some of it is like in African countries if you do food drops the army takes the food from the people before they get it. Or sometimes the governments we give it to keep some for them selves and then hand it out. Domestically I'm not sure. But I have heard if everyone stopped eating beef then all that land they use could be used to grow other food that yeilds more then the beef would. I still find that hard to believe and as much as I don't want people to starve I need beef. But it also would make people healthier.

(e:tinypliny) you make a good case about the swine flu. I don't think it kills very many people.

(e:Jason) yes there are people who think that a certain type of person should be goten ride of, and wiped off the planet. That wasn't what I meant. But now that you mention it. Other then (e:ladycroft) and (e:rory) ok and our troops also. If the entire middle east got hit by a bunch of storms and all the people who kill over the holly land and sell us oil where all wiped out I wouldn't be sad. Hey they have been blowing each other up since the beginning of time and now they all want nukes, so it could be a very good thing. IF I didn't mention it you are right we can't kill the planet but we can kill everything on it by cutting down all the trees drilling in the ocean and having some kind of oil spill.

I also need to state that wiping out a race or tribe of people and population control are two different Ideas that get some times get combined. One form of this is that as Tax Deductions you can only claim so many kids. Maybe that could be knocked down by 3. What about the idea if you get public asstenace of anykind once you hit 2 kids the amount hits a flat rate. I'm not saying I believe it but I have heard rumors of people who don't make enough money so they have a 3rd kid from a different father so they get more asstince. I'm not saying these are a good idea. But unless someone finds another planet soon we are going to run out of space.

I'm a bit surprised so many people reacted to this, but I'm glad they did. If the east coast (and even Florida and some of the Bahamas) gets hit with 3 feet of snow and everyone loses power I can admit I'm one of the people that deserves to be one of human Pericles. I want to recycle but don't really. I want to not eat animals but I love the taste. I have all kinds of lights and TV's on and want more TVs so I can watch Hockey and my TV shows at the same time as I write a blog.
heidi - 10/16/09 17:22
"People starving because there isn't enough food. Well there is enough and it is really how it is distributed. "

Right on, (e:MetalPeter) Capitalist food distribution sucks.
tinypliny - 10/16/09 16:21
"We need a good-sized catastrophe to wipe out a massive chunk of our greedy species that keeps reproducing without responsibility or conscience."

This was a slightly sarcastic double-negative relative statement I made in response to (e:Metalpeter)'s speculation about how flu could eliminate a sizeable population and how we need it because we have been destructively engineering the planet for our own purposes. I had three major thought streams as I made that statement:

a) The flu is not a very serious catastrophe as one might imagine.
b) The size of the catastrophe (that I called "good-sized") is about as realistic as alien races waging war with the human race. That is - it is highly unlikely.
c) The real brakes on population growth CAN ONLY come from controlling the number of kids that we wildly have. The real catastrophe is that we seem to take personal affront and offence when this is pointed out to us.

I want to make it clear that by:
WE - I mean I, you, your national and international neighbours. WE, the human race.
OUR - I mean the general actions brought about by this collective WE.

The general theme of (e:metalpeter)'s post was a thought stream on how a pandemic was needed to put a brake on the world's population growth. If you notice, he backs this up with several observations on why such a brake is needed, prominent among them being
1. Starvation (despite the one-child policy in China)
2. Non-equitable distribution (in the contrast between Canada and China)
3. The "theory" of global warming
4. Selfish destruction/re-engineering of the world because of
(i) Dominance on the food chain
(ii) Superior intellect compared to other species
5. Complete ignorance of the fact that we are not the only species on the planet.
6. The pace of "scientific development" outpacing the idea of what we actually need and what we have just invented for convenience.
7. The environmental consequence of these inventions

He follows this excellent stream of thoughts with why we are faced with these new "near epidemic" challenges every once in a while. Then he speculates that this is perhaps a message that we need to slow down in terms of our resource hogging behaviour.

With my comment, I was pointing out that a catastrophe is FAR from being enough to address these concerns. What we really need to really LOOK at our reproductive behaviours and reassess where we are headed in terms of constantly putting out more of our species that this planet can support.

My one single sentence (and rather acerbic) remark was because I think WE have in our hands to control ourselves and plan our future. We don't need religious end-of-the-world threats or the pseudoscientific threat of a catastrophe hanging over our heads to wake us up. Sadly, we just need a condom, education and a lucid re-think about where all of us are headed.
jason - 10/16/09 15:45
"We need a good-sized catastrophe to wipe out a massive chunk of our greedy species that keeps reproducing without responsibility or conscience."

Explain that.
tinypliny - 10/16/09 15:42
That link was broken. (e:Jason), why don't we have a discussion about this article?

:::link:::
tinypliny - 10/16/09 15:40
"what they mean is that YOU PEOPLE are the ones who need to be "controlled"

(e:Jason), population control does not mean population elimination. We are talking at cross purposes.

Counseling parents who have 11 kids just because they lack the enthusiasm, education or even the motivation to look at personal consequences or consequences to the rest of their kids is not the same as eliminating chunks of people as say, Hilter or other crazies.

Population control is not about taking the human race down, its about letting all of us live with a better quality of life well into the future. :::link:::(09)61643-3/fulltext#article_upsell
matthew - 10/16/09 15:27
It's not as black & white as (e:Jason) is trying to make it seem.
jason - 10/16/09 15:12
Yeah. Loathe the human race. That is 110% accurate. The next time someone tells you there are too many people in the world, hand them a .45 pistol and tell them to put it in their mouth. They won't, because what they mean is that YOU PEOPLE are the ones who need to be "controlled". There isn't a single loving atom in their entire body. Talking the human race down, or likening them to a virus isn't loving. These "values" are in line with Stalin and Mao, and everyone else who ever thought life is cheap.
tinypliny - 10/16/09 14:03
"loathe the human race and talk about population control"

Loathing the human race and talking about population control are opposite sides of the thought spectrum, btw.

"are usually the last ones to step up and slit their wrists or hang themselves?"

Precisely. People who talk about population control LOVE their lives, love their fellow beings on the planet and feel respected and loved in return. Why would they take their lives? They desperately want that the children of tomorrow should not be born and realize that they have no chance at the opportunities and resources simply because because there are too many of them.

Why should this happen when there could have been some planning and equitable distribution - given the massive brains the human species seems to have?
jason - 10/16/09 13:27
Peter, we can't kill the planet. We can only kill ourselves and other beings. Have you ever noticed that people who in general loathe the human race and talk about population control are usually the last ones to step up and slit their wrists or hang themselves?
tinypliny - 10/16/09 12:12
Nice, but the unfortunate truth is that this Flu isn't going to make a dent in the population problem. We need a good-sized catastrophe to wipe out a massive chunk of our greedy species that keeps reproducing without responsibility or conscience.

Did you ever see the movie Idiocracy? I think that movie is the uncomfortable truth that the planet will face in a few years.
