A saturday filled with caviar and champ
Category: food
I picked (e:hodown) up from the airport and we headed on over to downtown Kenmore where she was going to get some jewelry repaired at Hoefferts jewelers.

image

Then we headed to premiere to buy some caviar and cheeses. The most expensive caviar they had was from an American Paddlefish (WIKIPEDIA - American_paddlefish) . It was $56.00/jar but when we brought it home it was covered in mold inside ;(

image

So we had to drive back, the woman we returned it to commented that the jar was warm. I was wondering if she was insinuating that we made it mold in the 15 minutes we had it in the car? Luckily, they switched it out for another bottle and their was no spitting required.

I learned a lot about caviar here I am curious why the Iranian Caviar is so freakin expensive

Caviar is good with creme cheese. (e:hodown) taught me to eat it like this.
image

(e:terry) likes to play on the scaffolds, will we ever return them.
image

Then we had champagne, which reminded me a lot of the housewarming months.
image

image

Even (e:cindy) drank a bit too much.
image

It was fun lounging around.
image

Then we hung out on the porch with the ants and the water rocket.
image

Ants love yogurt
image

(e:matthew) cleaned it up
image

For a little we had 2/3 of the ho clan on the porch. You guys probably don't see the he-ho Josh that much.

hip-hop horray, HOOOOOO! yay for us! next weekend (e:lilho)! t-3 days!
jenks - 10/07/07 18:18
he-ho!!!!! hahaha
I love you guys.
That omelet looks awesome.
(and nice rack, j-ho)
maybe i've never had good caviar, but I don't see why people will spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on it....
jbeatty - 10/07/07 15:55
Speaking of Iran I really need to go there before the US military destroys it.
jbeatty - 10/07/07 15:51
I have never had caviar but really want to try it. I watched and episode of Globetrekker once where Ian went to an Iranian Caviar processing plant that was smack dab in the middle of the Caspian. It was really cool. It's amazing how much money they charge for an oz of the Beluga. I suspect it has something to do with that species of Sturgeon being on the endangered list not all that long ago.
fellyconnelly - 10/07/07 12:05
what good fun!
you may have to set up a trapeze in the back yard for (e:terry)..
james - 10/07/07 11:37
Paul you lush!

Bringing The Tortoise To Hell With Me
Category: pets
We did not attend the animal blessing this morning with Basra. I don't think (e:matthew) realized it was a church service and animal blessing. I mean I have no idea how the Episcopalians do it but in the Catholic church I kind of remember a whole mass with candles they put up on the animals necks at some point.

More Shutdowns in the Elmwood Village
Category: elmwood
Just shortly after Sahara Grill closed down ;( , Elmwood Bagels closed down too. I went there this afternoon for a sandwich and there was a sign saying thanks for being loyal customers they enjoyed there time in the elmwood village but had to close. I wonder if they are moving somewhere else. You think they would have a forwarding address if that was the case.
fellyconnelly - 10/07/07 12:07
it is upsetting when all these places that i want to go to some day close before i end up going there.
grr!
leetee - 10/06/07 09:22
Although i don't really like to see businesses close in a city that needs every business it can get, i am neither surprised or unhappy to find out that Sahara Grill closed. The service was so bad and the owner such a prick. The food was ok, but we never went there because we didn't have an hour and a half to wait for our water while the owner/cook was yelling at the female wait staff about how stupid women are.

I never went into Elmwood Bagel, though. Shame about them... i never saw anyone in there, though.
james - 10/05/07 21:32
I miss Sofra.... well, I don't miss Sofra, but I miss Turkish coffee.
metalpeter - 10/05/07 17:09
Sofra still has a discount listed on flash-a-passes so it lives on in spirite. ETS should stay where it is and the new place should go to Burger king. ETS was on that corner and didn't it burn down or something or move there after it burned down I can't remember but I think that is a great place for it. Where Sofra was there has only ben one successful place and that was the Elmwood Soda Bar, they had these cool wooden high booths and it was a great place where you could sit down and order and not be rushed, As nice as sweet tooth was not even the same kind of place.
mike - 10/05/07 15:56
and some restaurant I bleive is replacing ETS when it moves to the old burger king in a few months.
mike - 10/05/07 15:53
a new restaurant is opening where that turkish restaurant used to be. It says they are hiring ktichen help now.
jason - 10/05/07 15:27
Maybe all their rents went up after we found out how fab our neighborhood is?
janelle - 10/05/07 13:46
(e:Carolinian) - Make them from scratch!
You can buy grape leaves at Wegmans in the middle eastern section!
carolinian - 10/05/07 13:33
Arrgh! Where will I get my stuffed grapeleaves now?

Medina Deli On North Street
Category: buffalo
I have talked about Media Deli (e:paul,40698) a bunch of times in the past. Yesterday, there were actually a coupel people eating there in the morning and then today when i was walking past it on my way to work, I saw it was closed. Once I got to Main Street I saw why.

image

A freakin' car drove up the curb and slammed into it. I wonder if it was an accident or someone trying to cause damage or rob it.

Everything inside looked untouched, so it makes me think accident.
image

What is up with all the stores in the Allen Village being closed. I am hoping by calling it a village, everything will get fabulous.

This one is starting to smell moldy. I have a super power for detecting mold.

image

All the stuff in the windows is melting. It is such a weird mix of candles and food and knives.
image
image

The sky was so pretty yesterday after work.
image

I thought you guys would get a kick out of this.
image
joshua - 10/04/07 19:56
Paul I have to say your journal really does crack me up sometimes. I find the melting stuff to be inexplicable. Who leaves stuff like that?
james - 10/04/07 15:13
between Medina deli, Room, and HSBC arena business' must get slammed into by cars on a regular basis.

Information Infrastructure
Category: work
I would really like to become something bigger in the organization I work for. I realize I haven't been there very long but I have this feeling I could really help organize and analyze systems on a much larger scale. I don't just mean for web development. There seems to be so much reliance on software vendors but I think there isn't necessarily an understanding for what they do. I wonder if I will ever attain a larger role in making decisions on a more comprehensive level.

One guy was telling me the other day he planned on spending $90,000 on a systems that prevented insecurities in web applications. That is utterly ridiculous. First of all because such a solution could not possibly exist among the multitude of web based systems we run. I guarantee that whatever it does cannot be worth $90,000.

There are so many diverse groups that don't seem to know enough about each other.
tinypliny - 10/03/07 23:52
If you ever need employee support to switch Roswell to open source software such as OpenOffice, Lyx, R, Firefox etc, I will back you up most enthusiastically.

The reliance of the Roswell library on outdated loaning software that they have no clue about, is quite appalling. I returned a book *ages* back and *on time* and the wretched system shows me as a "delinquent". Worse, it seems they can't do anything about it because the software is glitchy and unresponsive.
