freedom downtime

In these trying times... let's have an Easter Egg Hunt:

2600 (http://www.2600.com) is having an Easter Egg Hunt on the DVD for their film, Freedom Downtime, which is a pretty dang amazing piece of documentary work. It covers the persecution of Phiber Optik and Kevin Mitnick. Mitnick ended up doing years in prison without being charged, and has only recently been allowed to touch a computer again. You never know when someone will rewire the space station using a pay phone and a bubble gum wrapper... Anyway, here's the page describing the contest ( ), check out the film if you feel like remembering how our civil liberties were trampeled over the previous decade, too...

ImageStuff + Flickr Colr Pickr

Ooooh! [inlink]ajay,304[/inlink]

Oooh, oooh! [inlink]paul,2953[/inlink]

Yay, I love playing with images. I guess I should point out Sarah's "Name Game" project, which is a commentary on "network semiotics" -- how images are named and the juxtaposition between what we call the image and what is in the image. The thing began as collections of photos of people labelled with their name, found on search engines. And then we worked together to do an interactive version of the thing. Anyway, you can play with it and see some weird stuff here:

And one of the coolest Flickr things I ever saw is this . It features a color wheel where you select your hue and shade. Then it dynamically grabs images from Flickr where the color values are closest to your chosen color. I think it's fucking brilliant. Amazing. Now, this is proof that there is good in the world...

In Your Face Bushy!

U.S. District Judge James Whittemore said the 41-year-old woman's parents, Bob and Mary Schindler, had not established a "substantial likelihood of success" at trial on the merits of their arguments.

Whittemore wrote that Schiavo's "life and liberty interests" had been protected by Florida courts. Despite "these difficult and time strained circumstances," he wrote, "this court is constrained to apply the law to the issues before it."

This is exactly what I hoped would happen last night as I lay down. I had a wild dream that all those fuckfaces who want to corrupt our government and legal system would be snubbed by a judge who would simply return the same verdict Mike Shaivo won in the previous 15 trials.

Now maybe this new "law" will be quickly overturned as unconstitutional and our esteemed leaders can concern themselves with something more important, like how to kill more foreigners...

Abstinence is for Anal Sex Fiends

Just to follow up on yesterday's post:

The    rates of oral and anal sex among people who planned to stay abstinent until marriage are higher than among other teens who have not had intercourse at all, according to the study, published in the April issue of the Journal of Adolescent Health. Researchers found that kids believe engaging in oral and anal sex gets around the rules of abstinence programs by technically preserving their virginity.

Sex is for Fags!

from here ( )

I understand that abstaining from sex protects me from:

The regret and guilt caused by the disgusting, squishy act of stupid sex, which is basically like going to the toilet from the front side.

Making retard babies out of wedlock, then having to blow my whole allowance on diapers and a stroller instead of XBox games and Snickers.

Catching a brain-rotting STD like "Finger Herpes" from "feeling up" any nasty dirty girlie holes.

Oh yeah, it just gets better. Don't miss the "10 Things all the Cool Dudes are Doing Instead of Being Lame and Queer and Having Sex!" And ladies, don't feel left out. The White House ( ) wants you to participate, too. Click over to Iron Hymen ( ) for the female version, which is just as creepy-larious:

"OHMIGOD, like, Iron Hymen taught me to respect myself way too much to ever let some hairy creep hock man-lugies on my Godly cervix like it's some gross subway platform!"

plastikman

[inlink]paul,2850[/inlink]

I remember that PlastikMan album "Sheet One" featured a sheet of blotter paper decorated with little Plastikmen... What would you do with that? I wonder if that's why it's so hard to find copies these days?

Xbox Live

[inlink]scud,80[/inlink]

Hey (e:Scud) , I'm on Xbox Live every once in awhile. I don't play any sports games, but lately some Halo 2 and Mechassault 2... my gamertag is GamesFirst (like my website)

Look for me sometime, or drop an invite sometime -- I have the XBL forwarding on so I get invites to my cell phone. It's pretty much the hotness.

iTunes - DRM = PyMusique

Check this out, from BoingBoing ( )

Apparently PyMusique is a free program that allows you to download tunes from iTunes without the DRM (iTunes uses FairPlay, which is not supported on any platform except the iPod, which some people don't like *gasp*!)

Anyway, I suggest getting PyMusique for any new acquisitions. Or old ones -- apparently it will let you re-download all your tracks as regular old non-DRM files. woot! \0//

Booky Rocks Like M.I.A.

Oh, damn, (e:Paul), this is exactly the way I like to do it -- I come to (e:strip) to read other people's journals -- I always disliked how if I saw something I thought was cool or wanted to say something about while I was browsing around, it was so hard to open a new tab and go to (e:Strip) to post something about it...

Yeah, this feels great. You roXor my boXor (e:Paul).

So I just found this page ( ) at Rolling Stone about M.I.A. M.I.A. is a Sri-Lankan female rapper who bad ass. You can watch her vid for Sunshowers on the page I just linked to. You can download a Sri Lankan hip hop mix on this Bit Torrent link ( ) -- it's the Tsunami Terror Mix. Remember, Sri Lanka has been in civil war for ages now (what, like 10 years? 20?) and all of Arthur C. Clarke's mysterious investigations couldn't prevent some of the most tragic terrorist attacks in the world, perpetrated by the Tamil Tigers. ha, and 50 Cent (the Mumblefish as I like to call him, after the Matt Dillon movie) thought he was bad...

Anyway, everyone ( ) is writing about M.I.A. I saw her vid on MuchMusic when we escaped to Canada for the Inaugaration. Download her video for Sunshowers. One of the best new tracks this year, fo sho.

Rasterbator

[inlink]paul,2797[/inlink] (e:paul)

That image on Halavais' door looks like a Rasterbator ( ) print from here. Or it could just be a really huge print of a really large file that's been run through an ascii generator like this ( ).

Fun stuff...
