Today

-dan slowly opens his thoughts-

So in just under 16 and a half hours the band will make it's debut with a drummer, to a select audience of friends and family at my new apartment. Bill, Jay and I had a quickie jam today to try and figure out some endings and figure out which songs we're going to play, looks like the set list will be

Sunshine
Now
Micheal Shea's
Kate
hills of tomorrow
UVO (ultra-vection-oven jam)
Bitter End

I'd like to do them in that order too, but I guess we'll talk about that later today.

eh I have nothing else to write

-dan's mind curls back up into a ball-

Jay comes out of hiding

What's up everyone! Sorry I hav'net wrote anything in a while I just never get around to it. So Nick (the drummer) kicks ass!!!! He brings in unbelievable drum beats and almost complete's the songs. Real cool guy too, Thumbs up all around!! Anyway I guess we are playing Saturday, I'm all for it, it's just when Dan showed me the flyer I was taken back by the thought of him posting them all over town. A momentary lapse of confidence that I to often encounter. My bandmates commented that the new song is great.... I could'nt agree more. It's all come together so quickly. As soon as I can figure out how to down load a sound bite(?) I want everyone to hear it. Even if our kind of music is'nt your thing I think that this song has something about it that everyone can like or relate to. I really look forward to hearing feedback. Well it's time for me to go back to work but hopefully soon I can come back to everyone with some audio. Later

Jay crawls back under his rock :(

Playing my party

-Dan jumps in-

Thought I'd update this while I still have the caffeine coursing through my veins. Nick came over and jammed again tuesday and I thought it was a really good session. I mentioned about having a get-together (party) on saturday to him, and he was all about playing it. He figured we could probably do a 5 song set or something. I know we have at least 4 songs down. We never worked on the endings on a couple of them, but i think we could probably squeak out another 2 or three songs after that four. So as long as nick feels comfortable doing it, I'm down with it.

When I showed Jay the flyer I was going to pass out at work, he was a little taken a back. He was like...
oh we're really gonna play . I thought it was a given, we had been talking about playing it, even if we didn't have a drummer. I'm going to be the nervous one because these are all my friends and co-workers, especially the co-workers, these people have no idea who I am. It's like that mtv's "diary of dan", "...you think you know but you have no idea".

I hope bill realizes we are playing.... 8* ;)

Innovative Soloing

Billy says:

I hate most solo guitar. I hate the blues and 80's rock killed my desire to be anything more than a rhythm guitarist. Now I am challenged to become one because Jay's style of writing almost demands it. My promise to the band and our soon to be fans: I pledge never to write a corny solo, I will not make my guitar sound like it's talking, barking, screaming or laughing. My style right now is more of playing a backround melody that amplifies the rhythm of the song and does not simply play over it. I hope my bandmates are with me on this and understand that the development of me into a soloist was not what I was expecting when I joined up, so be patient.

ps. The new song definitely kicks some serious ass.

We have a drum beat

Dan is present

Sorry it's just been me writing, it's the weekend and I work, so what better thing to do at work than update the band's journal.

Last night we had a very productive practice. As per my ad I threw up online on wnymusic.com, we met Nick. Bill sent him some rough stuff we had recorded and Nick agreed to come down and jam with us so we could get a feel of the music with some solid drumming. Did I mention that he's in a band already in buffalo. Undefined. check out their website if you want at . Anyways, Nick hit everything just right. It took a little bit for us all to warm up, but by the end of the night and a couple beers down the road. We had some rocking drums to our acoustic tunes. There's really nothing more to say, he was exactly what we were looking for right now. Though it sucks that he has a band, and we still need to find a full-time drummer. It's the only thing we are missing. We're also looking to hit up an open jam soon, so we can get out of the basement for a night or two. I think we are going to practice again monday.

BTW the new song jay wrote the other day, nick put drums to it, and I think it could be a radio song...i'm talking big hit. I guess we'll have to wait though.

Dan gone..

Tonight tonight oh oh

Dan In

So I woke up to my alarm going off tonight followed by some music wafting through the house like the sweet smell of bbq on a lazy sunday afternoon. I thought it was the tv, but it wasn't so I went out the back door of the house to see if someone was playing music in our yard, but the sound actually got less and less as I stepped out onto the back porch. Then as I wiped away the sleep from my eyes I realized it was jay singing an unfamiliar tune. So I started doing the dishes, cause they were piling up, and jay came up stairs. He told me he had just written a new tune. He told me it was the one he was playing. So as I ate and did the dishes, I listened to him sing the song. I took a shower and when I was done bill had just gotten home, so we all decided to go get some beer and play for little bit.

I wasn't too hyped on the idea of playing, we played last night and it sucked, in my opinion, it just seemed like we were all out of sync. So I wanted to take a break, but jay seemed really eager to hear what kind of bassline I would write for his new song, so I promised I'd come down and play it for a little bit. I think my unconscious mind had already worked out a bassline, cause it only took me like 5 minutes to come up with something solid, that I can work with. I don't think I'll deviate too much though, I like how it sounds. We played a couple more tunes, but I had to roll to work. So here I am at work.

Later today (cause it's saturday) I think we're gonna have a drummer come down and help us with some of the songs.

I'm diggin the new logo. I can't wait to play out, I'm getting bored of just practicing all the time...short attention span or something.

Gripes

Billy says:

I'll start with myself - I have a short temper.

Dan is paranoid.

Jay is a defeatist.

We all get bored easily.

Jay's friend Matt was over last night with his girlfriend Tess. Matt has heard Jay belt out songs before but he wouldn't sing in front of Tess at first. ARGHHHH!! The killer is, the songs are written for vocals, without the vocals, they sound really repetitive. My new stance is, sing or I'm not playing. Not to be a dick or anything, but I don't like playing them without the vocals over them. It's time to move on.

What does my paranoia have to do with anything, before you photoshopped the picture I could've gotten in trouble, buffalo=small town. I could get fired for promoting the compitition, or atleast blacklisted, okay so I'm paranoid. As for bill saying he won't play he's half joking, i think, but we do need jay to sing the vocals all the time, in fact I think we all agreed to sit down and write some lyrics and finish up some of the 12 songs we've written.
