I really hate my building management/owners. It really pisses me off how badly I have been treated by them. I pay my rent every single month on time or early since October. When I moved in I had an awful experience with the maintenance men and with the entire process of getting essential and not so essential repairs. This weekend I called the emergency pager...
I got home yesterday and noticed that there was water dripping down from my bedroom window frame. Definitely something was wrong. I am wondering if maybe someone upstairs left water running or was having a plumbing issue so I call the emergency pager and let them know what is happening and that I would go upstairs to knock on the door to see if anything was wrong. It turns out that the girl's air conditioner was not placed properly and the water was running down through the walls into my apartment. So more than 24 hrs have passed by and nobody responded to my emergency page.
As much as I like my apartment I really can't wait to get out of here. I hate being treated like trash when I don't deserve it. When I do get out of here I am going to make a journal about what jerks these owners are and I am hoping to make it googleable. They really truly disgust me right now. I may be here for a while so I am hoping nothing goes wrong between now and when I move out.

Your grandmother's scrub brushCause I am super crazy I ordered a case of scrub brushes because they are so hard to find. If anyone wants one I'll set one aside for you. They are $4 a piece which is very cheap (at cost).
They are 9in by 2.5in and have wooden handles. The bristles are tampico. They are very long lasting if you let them hang to dry out. These are definitely your grandmother's scrub brushes. Because there is no plastics they are much better on the earth.

Damn. Again. Your company does not sell body brushes. And looking at what they sell, my hopes of using this one as my first fabulous body brush are beginning to sink a bit.

I can't imagine using this particular brush on my body but what you do with it is your business : ) It looks just like the picture. If I am happy with this order I might make another proposal to order more stuff from their website with other peeps to make their minimum order which I believe is $30. Check out their website to see if there is anything you want. They have lots of different brushes of different material such as horsehair.

Damn. I looked up Tampico fibre and was surprised to find that they are used the most in body brushes - which are excellent for exfoliating and generally getting the circulation up.
Skin is pretty durable. ;-)

No, definitely not. In baltimore, old ladies use them to scrub their granite stoops on their rowhomes. They're for floors and tubs and other durable surfaces.

TAMPICO FIBER
GRUPO INTEROCEANICO CALA is a Mexican producer and exporter of Tampico Fiber, a natural fiber unique to Mexico .
Tampico Fiber is made from a plant unique to the semi-desertic areas of northern Mexico , the “Agave Lechugillaâ€. It has been exported for centuries all over the world to manufacture cords, ropes and stricks or to be used as a filler in the brush making industries for brushes, scrubbers and brooms for industrial and personal use.
The natural color of the Fiber is creamy white, but it is often dyed other colors. Tampico Fiber has great liquid holding and release properties - it will absorb 65% more water than plastic fillings. It has a unique surface roughness due to crystals of calcium oxalate embedded in the surface. There is really no plastic substitute for Tampico Fiber . The fiber is unsurpassed in most general sweeping applications, and in all applications requiring liquid retention, scrubbing and surface finishing

I often use a question mark on a title if I am not sure what it will be yet. I was trying to post a picture saved from my verizon online photo album but it wouldn't work. When I went to upload files the file was not in the folder that I had stored it in but I tried manually selecting it. It was saved as jpeg. Anyways, I posted the journal to see if it the pic was there or not and the question mark looked appropriate for today so I left it.

priceline.com revisitedI got to say that I loved having a car for a day. It has been years now since I have owned one and there is something really liberating about it. The car was very nice too, surprising because it was a Ford. It was equipped with satellite radio which can be a bit of a distraction because there are so many channels. It would have been nice if I could have preset the channels I would have been interested in before my trip started. It was a beautiful day for a drive and it was nice to see my dad, bro and his girlfriend. We had an excellent BBQ that included three grills, two charcoal and one gas. It was just so good and I wish I could have that entire meal over again.
The point of this all is to say that the car cost me more than I had thought. In the end the final bill is as follows:
$24.61 Rental fee including taxes from priceline.com
$27.88 Insurance from Avis
$15.00 gasoline
$4.00 tolls
TOTAL $71.49
The reason that the insurance was more than I expected was because $10 only insured the car. The other $18 insured me in case of personal or property injury I may cause on to others. I was not willing to take the risk of not being fully insured so I paid the extra.
The funny thing is that if I had my own car it would have been so cheap for me to rent the car because I would have had my own insurance policy that would cover rentals. I was wondering if people like me could purchase their own policy for a year that would only cover rentals?
So the next time I have to go to Rochester by myself I will check into Amtrak. I actually love trains and besides being way cheaper they are gentler on the earth. I'm not sure why I never took it before? I probably looked into it when I first moved here and it was more expensive than taking the bus so I never took it. As (e:tinypiny) commented in my last journal it is currently cheaper to take the train.

Hey! I take Amtrak all the time and the Exchange street station is definitely not what I'd call terrifying! Well... in comparison to Rochester's downtown after 4:00 PM, *no place* can possibly deserve that adjective.

Yeah, non-owner's insurance is a good thing. I just changed my policy because I got a car again after 6 years without, and the agent said it was a really really really good thing I'd had insurance that whole time because a) it made getting my new insurance a whole lot faster, and b) it made my new insurance a whole pile cheaper. So I felt a lot better about having spent a bunch of dough I didn't have on it, in the past.
Amtrak: It's great! Sometimes runs late. Generally between Buffalo and Rochester it's fine; just avoid the Lakeshore Limited, and take the Empire or Maple Leaf lines instead. I've been on Amtraks all over NY State and once in Illinois; the conductors are friendly/helpful, the accomodations comfortable, it's normally not really crowded, and it's much more relaxing than driving. It's not the cheapest, and the stations are generally not conveniently located for whoever's picking you up (I take Buffalo to Albany often, and the Buffalo station that's not terrifying is out in Depew, and the only Albany station is actually in Rennselaer, a tiny city just east of Albany/south of Troy).
If you take it all the way to NYC, though, holy crap, the view out the west windows of the train is fucking gorgeous all the way down the Hudson. Do it. Whoa. It is *the* best way to get to the City.

(e:dragonlady) previously had non-owners auto insurance which she says cost around $15 per quarter or so. [That was through USAA, which is only for servicemembers and their families - their rates are somewhat lower than other insurance companies.] Could be worth looking into if you drive more often.

go live in one of my friend's (former landlord) apartments, he's super duper awesome!!!
This site is does show up in google searches.
Sorry to hear that, (e:libertad). You could consider moving into one of the buildings run by the BMG. They may be slightly greedy about rent-raises, but they have always been super responsive to my maintenance complaints. I have called them at very late hours and either they send someone to check it out or if no one is available, one of the managers comes around to resolve the issue. The last time my sink overflowed, the manager of Elliot came around to bail out all the water and apply a temporary fix himself. I saw the manager of my building at 11:30 PM the other day when he was trying to help my neighbour 3 doors down with his sink troubles. They always have been rather courteous about mostly everything. So, I do have a good opinion of them - maybe one of the reasons I have not moved in spite of the constant rent increases.
I'm sorry that you have crappy landlords. I've experienced a few bad ones myself. The thing that always amazed me about bad landlords is that they don't give a shit about their tenants OR their buildings.
If you think about it, you are doing them a favor by telling them about the problem. If they don't do anything, they might have some major water damage to repair.
