Isolation Chamber
Category: web
Imagine being sick at school and being put in an isolation chamber, and then not having the swine flu.

"We have hand sanitizers all over the buildings," said Peter Burns, Hilbert College Dean of Students. "We have an isolation room if somebody comes down with severe symptoms or fever. We've actually had one student so far we've put in isolation, come to find out he's fine."

I hear they give you free chips in the IC. And good riddance other nose runny pukey kids for a while, don't you think? I bet that kid was pretty happy and thought: "Ah, peace at last" (if only for a day).

Shawn's visit

My buddy (e:shawnr) came to town to visit. It was a great stay, I just
wish we could have had some more time between me working and the
conference he was at. I also wish his wife could made it ;(. There is
always next time. Maybe we'll actually go to DC.

I am sure some kind of a bargain can be worked out over a REGULAR blogging promise, (e:hodown). Isn't that right, (e:PMT)? Isn't it? hunh? hunh?
hodown - 10/17/09 13:37
No eff that you SO owe me a visit first PMT!
tinypliny - 10/16/09 21:11
That is a classic picture. It makes me smile for no apparent reason. :)

tinypliny - 10/16/09 12:04
Is this (e:Jesse)? (and that was an interesting essay?) Is he a teacher in china?

Why so cold?

I was not ready to dig out a pre-winter hat ;(

tinypliny - 10/15/09 21:15
At least you were canny enough to dig it out. I think my ears nearly froze and dropped off earlier this evening - I walked to the central library and back and I swear I saw SNOW FLURRIES!

My first flu shot

Saved the lot number in this pic just in case. I never got a flu shot
before but damn they hurt. We had no choice this here at work ;(. Two
weeks until immunity.

Those are all good points metalpeter and jenks. My grandfather had a reaction to a flu shot once. He had symptoms of a heart attack and went to the hospital at my grandmother's insistence. I don't believe he has had another flu shot since. It would be awful if either one of them got the flu. It is so dangerous.
metalpeter - 10/14/09 19:42
I'll tell you why they are freaking out: our at least why I disagree with the mandate.

1. The Vacine for Swine Flu is new and hasn't really had that much testing. What I mean is for things long term.

2. The Government is over stepping their bounds. If they can make you get a shot of this, what is the next thing they will be able to force you to do?

3. Some people with shots do get sick from them. I don't mean that tiny bit of sick you are supposed to get. Everyone's body doesn't take to it the same.

4. I have heard that this Swine Flu going around now may have changed some and if that is really true then would the shot help any one any ways.

5. There are some people who I'm guessing also have conditions that might not iteract well with it. How about people who have poor imune systems. I'm not sure what else but what happens if you are on allergy medicine those seem like that could be a problem.

I get what NYS is trying to do, and I don't fault them for doing it, but I get why a nurse would be upset. But there is one other factor and that is group think. What I mean is when a couple people don't like something they talk a lot about how it is bullshit and how they aren't doing it and this and that and then others join in. Then when that event comes they do it any ways.
jenks - 10/14/09 18:47
twisted- I think NY is mandating all 'health care workers' get the flu shot. (I guess paul counts since he's at roswell?)

I dunno. I personally am sick of hearing the nurses bitch about it. I have heard several that say they will be fired before getting a flu shot.

Seriously? I don't understand what the big deal is. Ok sure, your arms hurts for a day or so. Sometimes you get some mild flu symptoms. And there's like a one in a million chance something bad happens.

Seriously? it's worth losing your job over that?

I mean the point is so you don't get the flu from/give the flu to your patients/coworkers/family/friends. I don't see why people are freaking out so much.

Bleh.
libertad - 10/14/09 13:34
So far nobody in my dept has gotten sick from flu shot but our arms all hurt.
ladycroft - 10/14/09 13:33
you know, i only ever got 1 flu shot my entire life, and that is the time I got the flu, really, really badly. Most other years, no shot, no flu.
twisted - 10/14/09 01:01
What do you mean "you had no choice?" Did Buffalo suddenly become a police state?
tiburon1724 - 10/13/09 23:55
it shouldn't hurt if they give the shot right :/
tinypliny - 10/13/09 21:48
Don't think about it - plus don't keep rubbing it. The pain should subside overnight.
paul - 10/13/09 21:44
It hurts a lot but I had no choice. They wrote the lot number down for us on a paper we are supposed to give to our primary care physicians.
vincent - 10/13/09 19:39
What's the point of saving the lot #, the manufactures have full and total immunity from any liability lawsuits.
lilho - 10/13/09 17:27
paul it does not hurt. i have gotten them the last three years... not required to, but i haven't gotten sick so...
