Who eats this shit

Someone I know actually bought this. It kind of blows my mind that
anyone would choose this inedible looking pizza sitting in styrofoam,
wrapped in plastic.

It's just one step away from canned pizza as far as I am concerned.

Just thought of why for fruits and vegetables why it is a great idea. For the same reason it is with meats. It means you don't have to have a scale and have someone weigh it then take it to the counter. Plus it also lets you change your price with ease. Lets say something is $5 a pound and you order it but a bunch of the fruit is bad. Well to make up that money you would have to go out and change a sign and that might get tricky. But packaged you just print out a new label.
tinypliny - 10/09/09 21:04
(e:jenks): I am really not sure they wash the veggies in these packages. I was told that it was a "convenience thing" for the shop because consumers would not be able to:
a) Cherry pick the non-rotten veggies
b) Forced to buy a certain quantity and the stock would be cleared.

Veggies packaged this way are usually a BIG SIGN that they are not as fresh as the loose ones and that the shop is trying to sell them out by packaging them - they are probably last of the lot.

However, I know for a fact that Guercio's packages beans, peppers, snap peas etc. in these packages for no reason at all - because if you ask them for a bigger quantity that is not packaged, they easily bring that out as well. I have a suspicion that the packages are the last of a particular lot of vegetables but when you ask them for loose veggies, they open a new lot.
tinypliny - 10/09/09 20:57
(e:metalpeter) you have a good point. Honestly, I don't find that pizza gross at all. If it were on a plate or just out there, I am dead positive many of us would take it and heat it up in the oven/microwave it without thinking.

BUT, its in THAT hideous packaging - which I hate, even for vegetables. On top of it, the label implies that you could probably just pop it in the microwave, package and all - not a very responsible message.

paul - 10/09/09 20:53
It was a super deal. It actually came with two pieces.
metalpeter - 10/09/09 19:48
I don't like those toppings, but that is a cheap piece of Pizza with all that stuff on it. Hey if it is ok to buy frozen meat like that what is wrong with pizza. The Part that I find odd is that you can tell that an entire pie was made and then it was cut that way so why not just sell the slices by the slice instead of like that?
jason - 10/09/09 16:25
BTW, Paul, I hope this person you know is a poor person that has no other options. I can understand poor people eating that slop but if you have a choice??? Then it's worth an intervention.
jenks - 10/09/09 16:24
well that pizza looks gross, but I *do* like the pre-washed/chopped veggies. yes, it's lazy. But, it makes me more likely to eat veggies if I don't have to do the work.
mrmike - 10/09/09 16:18
Not to mention really unappetizing
tinypliny - 10/09/09 15:42
But I do. I don't get it. I have suggested that they get rid of this wasteful and downright toxic practice altogether in several written notes to the Pricerite management over the past few months AND personally every time I go to Guercio's (to the great Guercio family members). I have also written in my concerns at the Wegmans and Tops chains in the past (and then gave up because they never listen anyway).

Pricerite took some steps (or at least I think they did)when they stopped putting peppers and string beans in these stupid packages - for almost 2 months. I think now they are back to doing the same thing. I intend writing once again and/or speaking with the management. It is unacceptable. :/
jason - 10/09/09 15:34
Tiny - please tell me you don't offer these "suggestions" to Guercio's, etc.
tinypliny - 10/09/09 15:30
Not very different from all those veggies that are chopped up and put in styrofoam padding and then wrapped in cling film. Try telling the shop how wasteful and silly all of it and they turn a deaf ear - including Guercios, Wegmans, Pricerite etc.

Weird 24 hours
Category: life
I was up late last night with the tortoise who was wretching up bird.

Then I went to work. I ended up getting into something that should take like 3 days but i didn't have three days so I compressed it into a 13 hour stretch with no lunch. In fact I just did not eat today and there is only a half hour until tommorow. I figured it was worth getting it over with so that I could actually have tommorow and the Monday holiday off without having to stress about it. That way I can work on the house this weekend.

Basra The sulcata tortoise eat a bird
Category: pets
Never having owned a cat this is the first time I ever had to deal
with one pet eating another. I just can't believe he ate the whole
parakeet. I took this picture at 2 in the afternoon today and you can
still see blue feathers in his mouth and arm scales.

It sos crazy because this kind of tortoise does not eat any meat. Well, to be honest I had one in the 90s and it ate a crow, so maybe they have a secret love for dead birds.

I can't imagine being eaten by a tortoise. What's worse is the other
bird in his cage 3 feet away witnessing the tortoise eat his buddy.

My theory us the bird didn't think the tortoise was a threat and got
too close.

tinypliny - 12/10/11 17:30
AHA! you didn't use the word murder. Now it makes sense.
ladycroft - 10/08/09 12:57
i really had no idea they ate birds....
metalpeter - 10/07/09 18:09
The thing is a you have multiple kinds of tortoises and people think of Turtles as slow. But this guy does move faster then you think he would. But he also isn't a turtle. I think what did the bird in is the same thing that gets cats beaten up if they go outside. Cats that don't have claws still think they do and fight and birds try to fly and can't. Once a bird is walking and not flying it most likely is the slower animal, and smaller also, it had no chance.
theecarey - 10/07/09 17:11
I imagine that a tortoise masticates very slowly? leading me to believe that maybe the parakeet had unchecked suicidal tendencies?
jbeatty - 10/07/09 16:56
I had always assumed he was a vegetarian.
paul - 10/07/09 10:25
They did make a lot of noise in his room. Maybe he just hated that.
lauren - 10/07/09 10:16
but he looks so satisfied.
paul - 10/06/09 23:01
Ours, we had two.
libertad - 10/06/09 19:55
I'm confused. Whose Parakeet was that?

Tokyo shanghai bistro lunch

I tried the lunch buffet today with (e:jon) and (e:enknot). It's only
6.95 and they had plenty if yummy choices. Most of them were meaty
although their are plenty of vegetarian options on the menu. I also
got the bowl of wonton soup again. I ate like 100 clams.

mike - 10/07/09 17:18
i want to go there!
tinypliny - 10/06/09 18:47
Good tip - need to avoid lunchtime wandering around that place. LOL

I am morbidly scared of Buffets - especially good ones because I have a tendency to overeat.
leetee - 10/06/09 15:22
mmm.. looks damn good. the hubs and i will have to check it out. thanks. :o)
james - 10/06/09 14:40

libertad - 10/06/09 14:07

Tokyo Shanghai Bistro
Category: food
(E:Terry) and I went to the new Tokyo Shanghai Bistro at 494 elmwood for yesterday for dinner.

image

They did such a fantastic job with the interior
design. Its hard to even believe it is the same place that was Rice
Paddy. The restaurant has a really extensive menu of Japanese and
Chinese food at really reasonable prices. They also have a sushi bar.

I ordered a piece of Saba (mackerel) sushi as an appetizer which was
delicious, well presented and had the beautiful skin texture I love.
It's hard to find it so pretty and at $2.00 it was a great deal.

image

Then I had a bowl of wonton soup with three wontons in it for $1.75.

image

(E:Terry) got c14 mongolism beef for $10.95 and it was freaking
delicious and well presented.

image

For dinner I ate c17 - seafood in sizling platter. It's described as
"lobster, crabmeat, shrimp, scallops sauteed with broccoli, straw
mushrooms, baby corn, and snow peas in a sizling platter." and cost
$15.95.

image

While the entree was delicious it had imitation Krab meat not
crabmeat. I feel like there should be a law against that. Imagine if
you ordered steak and got immitation steak. At $15.95 I think they
should either give you the real deal, call it imitation krab in the
desciption or leave it off the menu - it's such a shifty trick. It
made me not order the crab sushi I was going to get because getting
fake crab sushi would have sent me over the edge.

The other place that does that is Guercio's with their crab (krab)
salad in the deli.

The lobster was also overcooked and chewy as though it had been cooked and reheated. However, the scallops and shrimps were delicious. It would have almost just been better without the fake crab and just with more shrimp.

In general, it was great and I would definately go back again, just
don't order anything crab if you expect real crab.

I am very interested in going to lunch there and trying the lunch menu this week one day.
paul - 10/06/09 10:01
Not as cheap as fast food Chinese but much better quality.
himay - 10/06/09 09:55
Glad to see dinner prices aren't too bad. I may have to take a stroll down there and check it out. How expansive was their menu compared to some of the other local places, out of curiosity? I have yet to receive one of these fancy mailers. *pout*
lilho - 10/06/09 01:27
if i can have that, i will feel a lil better. lobster heals all wounds...
tinypliny - 10/06/09 00:58
I just got their flyer in mail - and I was thinking, "What an awesome selection and reasonable prices!" and here you are posting about your 24-hour old expedition already. You are fast.
