Norwegian Wood
I just finished the book Norwegian Wood by Murakami. I higly suggest you read this book if you like Hemmingway/Fitzgerald. I'm a huge fan of books/movies that have a sense of longing and sadness through out them. With all books that I love I couldn't put it down and am sad that I've finished it.

Ok this is turning out to be a terrible book review. I think I need time to digest it before I can talk about it.

That being said I now need a new book to read. Suggestions?

I also enjoyed Norwegian Wood. I really like Murakami's style of alternating reality with fantasy-you never quite know where to draw the line between the two, or whether such a line exists...

In a similar kind of way, Shelly Jackson's Half Life (which I am about halfway through) is turning out to be a great read. The Melancholy of Anatomy which is inter-related short stories is also a really neat whimsical ride. Check her out: :::link:::

If you need a light irreverent thoroughly crazy laugh-out-loud read, I STRONGLY recommend James Thurber's "My Life and Hard Times". Posted some chapters of the book here: :::link:::

Check it out. :)

I just finished Asylum by Patrick McGrath :::link::: . It first seemed like it was going to be a seedy romance (which is why i started it) but quickly turned out to be a Gothic thriller (which is why i LOVED it). I think you might like as well. Quick read.

The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy. I'm reading it now, not sure where it is taking me, but I'm enjoying the ride.

It's so over..
Years ago (sigh) when I was in college my roommate and I were heading out to a party and were trying to decide how to transport our alcohol across campus with out getting caught. We decided that tequilia in a apple juice bottle was the best way to go. It looks the same and no one needs more than an apple juice bottle of tequilia. I threw a lime in my pocket for good measure and we were on our way. About half way across campus we decided to start drinking. We were trashed by the time we actually got to the party. The next day I didn't get out of bed- period. For years afterwards I could not even smell shots of tequilia with out feeling barfy. It was at that point I decided me and tequilia were breaking up for good.

Well fast forward to Jessica in her 30's. Like any relationship worth its weight in gold it's never really over. 2 weeks ago I decided me and tequilia should get back together. We first re-connected in my mom's pool in AZ. I then decided to get hot and heavy with it yesterday- Sunday afternoon. After an all you can drink brunch we decided to hit up happy hour for half priced margaritas. Man oh man. Words can not describe how utterly crappy I felt. Which is why I now have deemed me and tequilia over forever. Seriously someone please punch me in the head if I EVER suggest tequilia again.

Some random thoughts from friends re: drinking tequilia on a Sunday:

A haiku:
Passed out drunk at nine
Pre-dawn hangover sets in
Monday spinning? No.

I woke up fully dressed on my bed with the lights on at 3 in the morning..

..another brilliant Sunday afternoon/night.

i love you , i hate tequila. It also makes me regret liek the cheap whore that it is!
springfaerie - 09/08/08 22:54
Ah, tequilla- she's like a good friend that has no problem Bitch-slapping you for sheer utter-stupidity. Good luck in the staying sworn off of her. Personally, I couldn't but I know others who have. Mine would be Crown Royal coupled with hits of weed- a truly lethal combination. Drink fluids, keep drinking fluids- preferably Gatorade!

Least it was your own bed

It scares me
that my gym is stalking me. I haven't been really hardcore work out like I was a few months ago and my gym has noticed. They have called me with increasingly scary messages.

Message from owner: "Hi we've noticed you haven't been using the gym as much this summer, we've missed you."

Message from my trainer: "Hey Jessica. I've missed you. Hoping we can start training again now that fall is here."

This is all code for: "You are going to get your ass kicked for slacking. So we hope you're ready for a few barfy workouts!"

I seriously feel nervous even thinking about it.

springfaerie - 09/07/08 18:01
UGH! I actually kind of wish that my gym would call me. I haven't been since my dad got sick in May and they haven't said, "Boo!" except for when my payment didn't go through due to the whole HSBC bank fiasco. *Sigh* The trainers want to get paid, that is their whole purpose. Still, at least you know that it'll be there when you're ready to go back.

I know! In retrospect maybe being the most high ever wasn't the best idea for us..
tinypliny - 09/05/08 22:52
Sounds like they took tips from one of those credit collection agencies that launch escalating attacks.
paul - 09/05/08 22:38
They are afraid you might quit and not get there 10 million dollars a week. Omg, those freakin suckers - I was so messed up. Look at my face, I looks like a am about to have a stroke.

Just to give you an idea of..
How adorable to ponytail bow combo is:

You can't totally see, but it gives you the general idea.

PS (e:lilho) i used the non fang tooth side just for you. Well you and (e:paul). I know you two talk shit about it all the time.
tinypliny - 09/04/08 20:07
I think you have lovely teeth. Mine look like they came directly from Order Lagomorpha.

NKOTB
I'm not going to lie, I love them. Even in their older, clearly sad, state of being. I just found out they played a concert this morning near my office. I cried silently when I realized I missed it.

Observations:
Joey is clearly the Justin Timberlake of the group. If anyone is going to bring the sexy back it's Joey. Jordan thinks he is going to bring the sexy back (I can tell it's what he's thinking) but he is so wrong.

Also I would still marry Jon in a heartbeat. I love the quiet dorks.

Donny was wearing sunglasses. I'd like to thank him for that. You can see pictures of him in my previous blogs and sadly (for him) he didn't age so well.

Danny. Eh. He doesn't make me cringe, but I still don't want to make out with him. Unless, I was really drunk and somehow it involved me getting a new dress or something, but I'm pretty sure that falls under the prostitute category. So yeah, no Donny make outs.

mike - 09/05/08 09:21
Jonathan is the bestest! Me, (e:mk) , and (e:jill) are going to see them in Cleveland next month! I CAN'T WAIT!
tinypliny - 09/04/08 19:39
I remember they sang a Happy Birthday song back in the day.
springfaerie - 09/04/08 16:16
I'll totally arm-wrestle you for Jon! I've been hot for him since I was, like, 10! And is it just me, or has Danny, as a result of the tattoos, gotten hotter? He always looked like a hairless "Planet of Apes" character (and I'm not talking young Charleton Heston!) to me... I don't know... Alas, unless he was really charming, I also would not sleep with him, however.
