8 Terabyte Storage Array
Category: computers

12 SATA 1TB Drives ($300 ea)

1 12-bay rack mountable SATA enclosure ($1200)

1 4x SAS Controller w/ Battery Backup ($1000)

Hooked up to a Solaris host with Raid-Z double parity ZFS, and two online spare drives for live failover and rebuilding.

= 8 terabyte of doubly redundant storage for ~$6000.

Biggest problem? How to back the sucker up. 20 tapes a night?

But really, I don't know how to back it up. I think I'll tell them just buy lots of insurance so that if the place burns down they can afford to start from scratch :)

my family has a pretty large selection of folding chairs i believe i could bring, excpet last time pual borrowed a folding table , it never returned and was supposedly stolen? So i'll try to convince them it will be safe this time

The week of the 3rd the 7th is not so good for me. I have to be at work by 8:30 everyday which is way unusual for me, so I want to go to bed by like 10PM. Dec 13th sounds good to me. I think we will also need someone to volunteer an extra table.
