I need your help, please read
Category: fundraising
We need about ~$1300 to buy a new, older server.
This
is an example of what I am looking to buy. I plan on setting it up and then switching it out with the old one all upgraded and ready for the future.

It is really in everyone best interest that this happens so that we can have a safe backup server and a raid array as well. If you peeps can raise $500 altogether I will match it (in addition to a couple hundred hours of time) and we can get it going.

In return you get to know estrip will safely go on for another 3 years of serving and you can get a title and a gold star on your big userpic.

I am also going to try and sell some of my stuff to raise some additional money but any help is appreciated.

Or if anyone has any fundraiser ideas? Feel free to organize them.

HOW DO YOU DONATE?
Through paypal:

Also feel free to comment on this news journal.

Here is a list of all the contributions so far

Thanks Paul. Do you have a dead line that you would like the money by?
lizabeth - 10/26/07 16:12
Hey, I just chipped in a few bucks. I have no idea if you can tell that it was me, since my username and e-mail and all on paypal are totally different from on here. Anyway, I have no preference one way or the other if I get my name on the list or a star on my pic or whatever. Just wanted to let you know.
paul - 10/26/07 12:19
Ya, you can opt of of showing how much you donate, I could just list those ones under anonymous.
twisted - 10/26/07 10:46
In addition to the paypal drive, maybe use google ads until you make enough money for the server? that way peeps who don't have cash to donate can still contribute to the cause just by viewing pages and clicking through. then we can feel good about all the time we waste (I mean, spend) on the site, knowing every page we view is another nickel toward the server. In that context, I think most peeps would not be as offended by the presence of ads as you think, but I've been wrong before. You know us californians and our grandiose ideas. it doesn't have to be a permanent fixture anyway. unless the yield is worth the impact, then you might want to keep them around to help defray costs. just a thought.
james - 10/25/07 22:58
swear jar.

I started one here this afternoon. a nickel a sweat.

We have over $300 raised so far. We had to go to the bank to get nickel rolls.
imk2 - 10/25/07 22:39
i know they're kind of measly but....
imk2 - 10/25/07 22:38
oh come on, none of my past contributions count towards this? i'm kind of hurt :(
jim - 10/25/07 21:55
Or if not a cover charge, a donation jar in the foyer for the Halloween party.
jim - 10/25/07 21:51
Estripvember Fest!!
libertad - 10/25/07 21:47
24 could be like the central terminal. I'll try and think of other ideas.
libertad - 10/25/07 21:44
funraiser idea #1 party entrance fee
libertad - 10/25/07 21:40
I would like to help, but if I had a star on my userpic I would feel like a Sneech. Can we opt out of having a public display of how much we donate?
jenks - 10/25/07 21:32
i did make a little donation a little while ago... I'll have to check my coffers. ;)

Do you know of any stores on elmwood or east elmwood that are selling the "i love buffalo hockey"t-shirts? i can't remember the name of the store that has them

Someone wrote to ask me this today. Does anyone know the answer, or where east elmwood is?
julieroxxx - 12/11/07 10:34

East Elmwood -- Neat trick for a street that runs north/south
metalpeter - 10/08/07 17:54
I have seen the shirts in a store window lots of times and I'm not sure but I think Rotten is correct.
joshua - 10/08/07 11:42
I thought I saw one in the window of um... one of the stores on my block that I never go into. They are around!

Also online as well -

:::link:::

I don't know anything about the site, but thats the t-shirt. Quick Google search does wonders.

I think the person who asked was a suburbanite who isn't familiar with the area, or simply is trying to create bullshit lingo that none of us that live here recognize.
mike - 10/07/07 22:58
do people call Allen , East Elmwood? just an idea , also Spoiled Rotten has them I belive
james - 10/07/07 16:56
Rotten, isn't it?

Estrip Dinner Night At Casa Di Pizza
Category: food
October 10th, Wednesday at 7pm

Note: The Sabres and the Bills are not playing this night.

(E:strip) dinner at JJ's Casa di Pizza, at 744 Elmwood (with Parking on Hodge). Sign up in the comments of this entry, so we know how to make reservations. If you are unsure of making it, sign up but let us know that too.

Count on paying $12 or so dollars per person (more for alchohol), and please bring cash. There will be an assortment of pizza and wings ordered, but if you need something in particular, the full menu will be available.

Afterwards there will be a meeting at 24 Linwood to talk about (e:strip) for those who are interested in lending a hand.

The last dinner was a lot of fun, with 16 people - check out the photos, and join us this time around!

Don't forget to sign up!

libertad - 10/03/07 19:54
I'll be there. I'm not so sure that I will go over to 24 afterwards. Probably not, but anyone can call me and ask me if I could do something if they wanted to.
metalpeter - 10/03/07 19:49
Count me in for Dinner and hopefully going to the 24. Hopefully I will have some ideas, well I'm sure I will just not sure if they will be good or not.

Blogtoberfest At The Terminal
Category: blogging
Well, it looks like Buffalo is having its second annual Blogtoberfest. Maybe, we should all go and meet the other Buffalo bloggers outside of estrip. I just wish it wasn't at the central terminal.

image
metalpeter - 09/21/07 19:12
Hey if you guys are going I would tag along, if for no other reason then to try and get pictures of the Central Terminal. What time should I get to the 24?
mrmike - 09/20/07 22:41
I'm in!
zobar - 09/20/07 18:22
Ya me and (e:dragonlady7) will be there, and I really can't tell how serious she is about getting naked. There's only one way to find out! Go...

- Z
mrdeadlier - 09/20/07 16:58
If I wasn't at a wedding I would totally go and show support. Sigh, it seems like I've always got something going on when things like this come up. :(
dragonlady7 - 09/20/07 13:18
Yo people, I am serious
We have to go dressed as (e:strip)pers.
Strippers! Geddit?
HAH!
I am brilliant.

...
I may have to do it. Please don't make me do this alone, people. Someone else do this with me.
janelle - 09/20/07 12:49
Mmmhh...Drew and I might go.
orchidiamond - 09/20/07 12:26
I'm going to be in Syracuse for a bachlorette party this weekend...
fellyconnelly - 09/16/07 19:12
sounds interesting. i'd love to go, but it is my dear ol granny's 80'th birthday bash and i've been selected to make the meatloaf. no seriously.
paul - 09/16/07 18:24
Thats a great idea. I still have the orange banner from (e:enknot)'s birtdhay bash. So who is going to go?
zobar - 09/16/07 16:38
(e:james) said it, not me. I think we need to go as a large dense group with a sign sticking up that says '(e:strip)' - sort of like each states' mob at a national convention. I think this would be the most succinct way of assuring (e:strip) is not overlooked as perhaps the largest local blogging community.

- Z
james - 09/16/07 11:56
Like, what sort of costume could they be looking for? Like, should we dress up as Buffalo Rising? You know, the costume would be a staff writer in rags being crushed by the dead weight of a bunch of BR magazines.
metalpeter - 09/16/07 10:42
I admit I'm a little cynical so I do have to wonder If you wear a costume do you get free beer or is only admission free. I also wonder why they are encouraging costumes about a month before Halloween. That could be very interesting. The central Terminal is one of those places that I have seen from a distance but don't really know where it is. I do think that it is a good idea, and could be a great time.

An Buffalo Update
Category: buffalo
I updated the journals so that the word count is stamped with " Buffalo, NY" if your zip code matches 14***. If lied on your signup or if you didn't fill out your zip code when signing up, then this will not show up. Send Paul an email if you want to give your real zip code and get the stamp.
