those are the names of our new bedroom colors.

we are here in buffalo now. since tuesday.
we have been spending 12 hour days painting like madwomen.
so pardon the absence, we are insane.
also - i am getting the dreaded blue screen of death on my computer. i have screenshots of the technical info. anyone know of a dell authorized repair center? i believe that I have a one year warrenty. or if i send you a screen shot could you tell me what my problem is? (that is, my computer problem)
back to the grindstone.

I realized that I ordered my Harry Potter book from Amazon.com. it didn't arrive on Saturday. and so i just received a confirmation email for the full cost of the book being refunded to my amazon acount.... sweeeet.
of course now that i'm thinking about it... i think that the harry potter books might have been delivered by us mail. and of course i have a forward to buffalo, which i am not there till tuesday late evening. which makes me wonder......... did i inadvertantly cheat the system, or was it magic?
no matter, i haven't had time to read it.
i just got back from day one of my family reunion at bear mountain.
already dean has gotten into fights with both my mother and my uncle larry.
also aunt mona and drew have gotten into a fight
grandpap fought with everyone that tried to make him get out of the car at arrival.
and there was a lot of grumbling as a result of 19 rooms being requestqed in 3 cabins that only have 18 rooms. god these folks are crazy.
its coming down to the wire. i have alread said goodbye to so many people and its beginning to get upsetting. oh and already i'm getting requests to stay in new paltz for a few extra days. and pleeeaasssseeee come back for this party on the 4rth...
oh and i still don't have a job.

I love family reunions.
The name 'reunion' says it all. Everyone broke apart because they couldn't stand each other but then the word 'family' pops back into someone's skull and all the suddenly that union has to be reformed.
here is a recipe
1 part family reunion
2 quarts cheap gin
stir, without ice
pour into Styrofoam cup
garnish with sprig of nettles

tonight i fix lauren's car window/blinker with jess.
tomorrow is my last day at work
tomorrow night is happy hour at oasis for the last time
saturday is harry potter
saturday night is a barbeque at my bosses house
sunday through tuesday morning is family reunion
tuesday is the day i grab my cats and say goodbye to new paltz.
i've been so busy. so very busy. sorry i haven't posted/commented more than flippantly. i'm rather flippant you see.
hey guys, what is this Nova 3C promotions company? They want me to come in for an interview, but if it is going to be annoying telemarketing for pennies crap i don't even want to bother...
i can't wait until the stress levels die and my dry and sarcastic sense of humor comes back.
this little kid just ran out of kb toys yelling,
'dad! brian just called me a retard and that really hurt! it really did! my feelings are hurt'
i don't know why i found that so amusing, but yeah... okay i really got to stop procrastinating...

It could be your resume.
I'd been sending out resumes for jobs I was definitely qualified for for MONTHS with no luck until I finally revamped my resume and got hired on the spot for what basically equates to my dream job.
The job market here is tough, but there's opportunities if you can sell yourself as well as you can sell a product.
I only lived in New Paltz a few months, ran out of money and had to come back. I didn't get a chance to meet a lot of people, but I worked at the Bistro, and knew people there. Your picture doesn't look familiar, even though I know it's a very small town.

i can't imagine why i haven't gotten a call back on a job. i mean i am top salesperson here, manager for the past year and a half, worked here for 3 years and my current employers absolutely LOVE me. (they hate everybody) i even checked my credit report for inquiries and there is none, so i know it isn't based on my credit score. i have a B.A. and i even clean up nice! i don't want to toot my own horn but dammit i am amazing!
AND i have a sparkling personality!!! wtf?
oh and i did some research on nova and found that it is totally a scam. thanks for the info on that. dirty bastards.
seriously.. i'm stumped on the job thing... i can't imagine. i really can't... i know i'll find something though... but damn..

Yeah, I've seen that company listed on craigslist, they seem like a scam. If you're looking for a job, might I recommend www.iambuffaloniagarajobs.com? You have to sign up for a free account, but it's worth it. There are some quality jobs listed there.
I moved back to Buffalo (incidentally, to Elmwood Ave.) from New Paltz almost two years ago and miss it insanely. It's nice to know there's someone else in town that's even HEARD of the place. Welcome back!

spoogemonster.i have made many attempts to write/check everything here. everytime i do i get sidetracked or whatever. But it appears to be slow today so here i go.
brief updates that none of you care about: my boss is having a barbeque for me next saturday. i cannot tell you how much this makes me happy. it is the greatest feeling int he world to leave a job feeling appreciated.
that being said, i have not heard from ATT/Cingular from my interview on monday. in a recent discussion with me mum, the idea that it might have something to do with my credit score has been brought up. it royally pisses me off that companies are allowed to base employment on credit scores. i mean... how the hell am i supposed to fix my credit if YOU WON'T GIVE ME A JOB? this country is, as far as i'm concerned, fucked. run by banks. do you all realize that the federal reserve is a private institution? money rules everything. grr i can't get into that again, i'll just get even more irritated. for now i'm just going to employ the power of attraction (the secret anybody?) to force them to call and give me a job.
there were other things that i wanted to say but lost ambition somewhere along the way.
except this: explain to me why all of my customers are firmly bunching their panties into knots and shoving them as far up their ass as possible?

jason i agree. i can't stand the fact that the mistakes that i made 6 years ago could prevent me from getting a job now. or keep me from the lowest possible car insurance. or whatever. because we all know that credit card companies and the like are designed to keep the consumer IN DEBT. grrr i hate this country.

Felly, you are definitely not alone. Most of the country suffers under the same BS.
I'm not a lawyer and so I don't understand the legal reasons why someone is allowed to view your private information.
Me, I had to sign a paper ALLOWING my company to scan my credit. Did you have to do something like that?
I mean, it's not like you are ever asked for private information about illness, which could absolutely affect your ability to do your job properly. I would raise holy hell if a prospective employer prodded me about depression, or anything else. It would be unthinkable to ask for this information, but apparently your PRIVATE credit information is A-OK?
It should be 100% illegal for this information to be given to someone else, or for that information to be required when applying for a job. It is absolutely appalling.

Downtown Buffalo has a skyscraper by the name of HSBC tower. That bank employs hundreds of people in the area and pays rent on its own frickin skyscraper. And not by tangible labor, they just make money with money, your money. What a gross, bloated, parasitic business.
This is why I don't trust people in suits or who have a 401K plan when under the age of 30.

god this computer is slow.
i was going to upload a photo of the kitchen that lauren and i just spent crazy back breaking heat stroke inducing hours painting, but the photo is huge, and this computer is slower than snails racing in the mojave. also this shitty computer chair almost unceremoniously dumped me directly into the shaky computer desk that i'm sitting at. which would have resulted in horrible horrible things.
that should bring up a big fat red X.
i would go ahead and upload it elsewhere and resize it, but that would take most of the morning/afternoon.
the interview went okay - though i was given a phone call as i was pulling into buffalo monday afternoon that it had to be rescheduled for that evening. thus i was unable to do much of the last minute research that i had intentions of doing. it went okay, though he repeatedly asked me about my graphic design and video production background. wasn't i at an interview for cell phone sales?
anyway - hopefully it went well, though i'm really concerned about having an apartment/bills/etc and no job as of yet. i have to keep telling myself it will be okay.
the painting was HELL. hot. i have a hugeeee bruise on my leg from straddling the refridgerator (don't ask). our kitchen now has a new floor, a lovely set of cabinets in the color of 'chocolate sparkle' and the walls are a delightful color that we have deemed to be magical as it shows up grey, blue and green depending on which wall/light/angle you have. we are currently debating on whether or not we should have a brushed nickel color for the hardware on the cabinets or a black. i personally like silver, though after looking at the cabinets i'm unsure.
I have been asked by lauren to inquire as to what everyone thinks is the fastest way from elmwood ave to UB north campus. hmm?
we were leaving last night, passing the bidwell park (is this right?) and saw a gathering. it made me wish i wasn't going back to new paltz. i suddenly realized that it was the first time i'd rather be somewhere else than new paltz and it made me an odd mix of reminiscent/sad/happy/eager/etc.
anyway - thanks for all the well wishing! i need to get some laundry done!

first of all, you all made me smile with these responses. i'm still getting used to using 'the' before road names, and it makes my insides all warm and fluttery to see all of you say it. and no i'm not picking on you, i really mean it!
i'll be sitting at home with my 48 page map of buffalo tonight and this page of delightful travel tips!
and no james, it wasn't quite gulag labor to paint the kitchen in that heat, though lauren did get a bit testy, what with the whippings and all...
and i can't wait to check out the concert series, if nothing else than for the opportunity to sit in the park and people watch...
and paul - my friend's computer is really just an old dell. not sure what type... just old and slow... and i'm so used to using all the fun and exciting programs on my dell xps that do everything in a heartbeat that i've never bothered figuring out the other, easier resizing methods... what say you?? (thanks!)

What kind of computer are you using? I can probably write up a tutorial for this. There are plenty of ways to resize images in about 2 seconds. Uploading somewhere else is a huge time waster if you are just trying to resize a huge image.

Hey! I was in that gathering! It was a concert by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the concert series by the Elmwood Village Association. I think one of them clicked my totally un-phOtOgenic monstrosity of a face and I am living in terror about when its going to spring up on one of their websites and give visitors nightmares.

I used to take the 198 to the 190 to the 290 when I drove out that way. It's the highway, it's easy, there are almost never any cops on certain stretches of the 190, and I'm too impatient/groggy in the morning to deal with stop lights.
You can also take the 198 to the 33 to the 90 to the 290. I don't like having to wait what sometimes is FOR FREAKING EVER in the morning at that light on Parkside. Merging into the lane to get you onto the 33 is also sometimes a pain. Plus you can't speed as easily as you can taking the 190.
I've never tried James' Delaware to 290 method, although I'm interested to know exactly what time it takes using that route. My beer store of choice has changed from Premier to Consumers so I don't really have much of a reason to drive down Delaware anymore, except to go to Gordon's once a week to have a beer or three with some friends.
Now, I work on Grand Island so the choices are limited. 15 minutes drive to work! Not too shabby.

Tuesdays at Bidwell....good times. Wait till outdoor movies by the unitarian church. I work near ub and no matter how I get to work, it takes 20 min from Elmwood to these parts.

the heat was horrid yesterday. It was impossible to do strenuous tasks like walk or breath. But painting in this heat must be akin of gulag labor.
UB north campus is a fun drive. My tenure at UB gave me about three dozen ways of going. If you dig highways and merging I recommend turning left on West Ferry to the end, make a right and go to the highway next to the river. Follow that to the 290 and get off at UB.
But I hate that way.
Going up Delaware to the 290 is my favorite. You pass banks, groceries, and our giant liquor/gourmet food store Premier. So you can get there in about as much time as the highways take and get chores done.

unfortunately there really is no quick way to get to UB north campus. though (e:anne) would know better, i would guess it will probably take about 15 mins to get there.
i would say the 198 east (which is right off elmwood if you go north) to the 33 east to the 290 west and then either getting off at Millersport or the 990. it may be longer than other ways but it's probably the most direct.
that's my two cents.

hmmmm, if y'all are "ridiculously anal" about painting then I think y'all would get along great with (e:leetee). She's the only person I know who uses an artist brush on trim to make sure it looks right. To put it another way, "good enough" doesn't exist in her vocabulary.
well the blue screen of death is only happenin occasionally.
lee tee - we were spending 12 hour days painting. we are ridiculously anal. i think you would have run out screaming within minutes!
tinypliny - misty evening is like a blueish gray color. great with both orange and tan suedish colors!
Hey, welcome to Elmwood! You must live in a cool complex - they don't allow any sort of painting over at where I live. Is misty evening a wild lavender/peach colour?
Welcome, officially, to Buffalo!
If you need/want help with painting, email me. I like painting. I can't promise to be a madwoman, though... wait... perhaps i can... or am...
I don't remember where the dell repair place is off hand but I think it isn't to far from Buffalo. When we first had ours we had a faulty CD Drive. They sent someone to replace it. I wish I had a clue about the blue screen. I agree with (e:jenks) that you should go to the after the garden walk get togather. If for no other reason to take a break from working and to relax a bit.
sorry, no clue about the dell-
But welcome to town!
You should come to PMT's post-garden-walk shindig tomorrow!
When had a Dell and it would die I would call them up. It took a few horrid hours but they helped me fix it. And I know nothing about these machines. So, give that a try.
