it was the spring chicken salad...

note to self:

you are within months of being 28. drinking large amounts of alcohol of any type for twelve hours while playing in the hot sun may make you feel like ponce de leon discovering the proverbial fountian, but does not make you feel youthful the next day.

although maybe my next post about the party will have a slightly more enthusiastic review. i'm going to lay down some more now for now.

ps im driving to buffalo tomorrow morning. tuesday morning i have job interview. i return to new paltz tuesday night/weds mornin. how much painting you think we are going to get done?
mrmike - 07/08/07 22:33
good luck with the interview and with all that driving!
jim - 07/08/07 22:23
Good luck!
tinypliny - 07/08/07 22:04
Hey, good luck for the interview! Here's hoping you nail it! :)

jello factory
Category: drinking
i've been running around like crazy trying to get everything together for my going away party this weekend. its very exciting. i'm making jello shots tonight....

i have lemon drops (lemon jello and vodka and a splash of extra lemon)

strawberry/vodka with little pieces of cut up strawberries in them

blue berry/vodka

pina colada (pinaplle jello with rum and topped with cream of coconut)

rum and coke (black cherry coke with rum and coke and a maraschino cherry inside)

and i think that is it so far... i am officially bringing jello shots to the next level. i thought of halfing oranges and making jello shots inside the halves and then slicing it like an orange... that would be fun too..

anyway... i need to get started on this... times a wasting!
lilho - 07/11/07 19:27
that all sounds so seriously good! hot damn!
metalpeter - 07/06/07 19:17
Hope the party was awesome. See I the thing with Jello shots is if you make them with all alcohol and no water they can really kick your ass quickly. Sometimes all you can taste is the jello. One thing I have heard is that you use the same flavor jello as the vodka and then they taste more like that flavor. Also since they are small people tend to think there isn't much alcohol in them but often that isn't the case.
fellyconnelly - 07/06/07 11:24
ooo...i bet there would be all kinds of neato jello flavors there!

james: i heard the astral dogs name was sirius. but i guess that would have been too easy.

i know that jello shots have been given a bad name by frats and younguns. i'm just trying to kick it up a notch and add some class to the whole thing.

that and i think its funny when people are stupid enough to think they are harmless and then we find them laying under the porch in piles of their own vomit and blood. :)
hodown - 07/06/07 10:27
I am totally impressed by your jello shot making technique!
jenks - 07/05/07 22:39
wow... that's, like, gourmet jello.

You are SO invited to my next party.
james - 07/05/07 22:34
Did you know that it was invented by a pan-dimensional astral dog named Rufus?

See, I can make up facts too uncut!

oh... I clicked the link and what do you know? My bad, sorry.

uncutsaniflush - 07/05/07 22:16
Did you know that Jello was invented in Western New York and that there is a Jello Museum in Leroy not far from Rochester? :::link:::

just can't wait to get on the road again
Category: moving
well we made it there!

somehow we managed to move the entire truck into the apartment in the matter of about 20 minutes. chalk it up to excellant packing, but wow... it all came together great! my 14 year old nephew carried all the heavy stuff.

(e:chico) - thanks for stopping by and bringing us beer! it was delicious and well needed by the time we got back and sat staring at the mounds and mounds of our belongings in the middle of the living room! it made us feel great!

(e:james) - sorry we didn't call you for the jello wrestling. it was over in an instant. who knew that a forty pound monkey could overpower a full grown goat that quickly?

and then we drove another 6 hours back to new paltz. gone already, i know...

and now it is late and my spinal cord has fused into one large question mark. i finally wrenched my fingers from the steering wheel and i don't think they will ever straighten again. 20 hours of driving in 5 days. my car and my body hates me.

happy fourth of july everyone! i'll be at work tomorrow, resting....

thanks again!
fellyconnelly - 07/05/07 12:45
i don't think i'm an official buffalonian until i survive the winter... that should be a rule i think....
jason - 07/04/07 12:35
Ahh, you are officially a Buffalonian. Have a great 4th Felly.
fellyconnelly - 07/04/07 10:37
my nephew is absolutely amazing. he is also my godson. (i win) he had been at my mothers upstate for over a week and as soon as we pulled into the driveway of his house he says 'wow, maybe i'll mow the yard tonight instead of waiting till tomorrow' ! what a great kid!
but seriously - i think i have to admit that i over exaggerated on the number of books. i think its more like 30 boxes. i feel sheepish to admit it.

silly james, the fourth of july is the popes birthday... i am presently shaking my head in disgust. i thought i knew you...
tinypliny - 07/03/07 23:59
20 minutes with 47 boxes of books and more? Who is your nephew? Could I please meet him in person, next time? 0_o
james - 07/03/07 23:55
It is no problem, it was a win win situation in fact. I got to apear like a nice guy and not have to do any work. ^_^

Have a good rest on this, Jesus' birthday, or whatever the 4th is.

praise jersey~
Category: moving
well.....

i'm officially a couch pet. staying with kathi unil i'm fully moved into buffalo. there is something extremely discomforting about it all.

more importantly

jersey was amazing. delightful. swell sweet. delicious. oh my god did i just say that about JERSEY? i have problems.
no really we went to the beach and had excellant drunken times.

i'll mention just a couple highlites.

1. found out what happens if you do not put sunblock on evenly. i look like i have red camouflage (sp?) skin on my chest. very hot let me tell you.

2. it was interesting to walk behind my group of big dykes on the boardwalk so i could fully appreciate the gawking of all the meatheads. also drinking beer in the bathroom on the boardwalk when i clearl y didn't need any more.

3. kathi fell asleep on the beach and we have a lovely photo of her sleeping on her chair, all alone except for the random dude-bro that offered to take his photo with her. when we finally showed her later she was thoroughly amused.

4. in my drunkeness, lynda and i had a good ten minutes of interpretive dance which i may or may not post the video of when i get my camera cables back. it was moving.

5. waking up and driving home exhausted with a hangover and sore muscles from fighting with ocean waves yesterday.

i'm sure there is more but i'm half dead. but here is the real news. the uhaul (budget truck) is loaded. sitting back at my former residence waiting for me to come pick it and steven up so that we can head out. 8 am which means maybe 2 ish we will be there? did i mention that i'm in pain?
and hung over? i just took a 3.5 hour nap.

buffalo? i'll see you soon!
tinypliny - 07/03/07 23:27
Hey, welcome to buffalo... -from a one-week old resident :) Hope your move goes well!
jim - 07/02/07 09:04
welcome!

tick tock tick tock tick
Category: moving
times a tick tockin away!
tonight after work begins crunch time.

everything we own is getting moved to the garage. or to kathis. tomorrow morning lauren and i will be wrestling with the hoardes of ny city folk who are all on a mission of mass exodus of the hot and steamy city in favor of the ever so pristine jersey shore (sarcasm? noooo)
spending the weekend at the beach with a ridiculous amount of assholes i'm sure. but hey, sun and ocean and a free house a block away from the shore? sure.

i intend on mild inebriation throughout the weekend.

ending sunday morning, when we again will be facing the hoardes of (holyshiti'vegottagobacktowork)
in time to get lauren to work
and me to the budget rental truck
and then pack all night

monday afternoon, you will see me, there in buffalo
i'll be the one swearing under my breath at the 47 boxes of books(bricks) that have lauren's name all over them.

here we go!
chico - 06/28/07 15:16
oops, posted that last item to the wrong journal entry, my bad.

maybe you should take Lauren's books down the shore with you?

hmm. it seems some posts are best kept separate.
chico - 06/28/07 15:14
I have a book problem, and it's worse than Lauren's. My old friend Joe was in town for a visit recently and he reminded me that we moved over 75 boxes of books into my office last August, and I have to admit that I just moved another 15 (different) boxes from my old place to the new digs. Having to move multiple dozens of boxes of books is a good way to test friendships, haha.

Of course, the problem with selling/giving away books is that, unlike weeding a garden, you might end up missing the "weeds". My buddy Tom in Albany once weeded his library of books he felt he "never used" and subsequently spent the next year or two going to the shelf to look for a title that -- sure enough -- he'd sold or given away in that weeding frenzy. His advice: NEVER weed your library.

So I guess I'd say, 47 boxes of books -- a pain, yes, but what is life without pain, after all? And better the pain now than later. :-)
fellyconnelly - 06/28/07 15:08
(E:hodown) just the thought of NYC in this heat makes my skin crawl... i don't envy you....

(e:james) - lauren will NEVER sell her books. even if she never reads a single one of them again. and being that she will soon be attending grad school for a degree in that which requires enough books to put encyclopedia britannica to shame.... oh i might have just gotten a little depressed just now...

and dammit why isn't that pic of steven coming up?
james - 06/28/07 14:47
Before moving I decided to sell 1/3 of my books. Amazon payed for my moving expenses and our security deposit. So, with that volume in mind I have an idea what you are in store for. God speed.
hodown - 06/28/07 14:07
Im totally jealous. Its so hot an miserable in NYC right now. Even if the shore is gross, its better than nothing :)
fellyconnelly - 06/28/07 13:52
oh and by the by....
stephen

will be accompanying us!
i'm trying to imagine what 6 hours in the car with stephen is going to be like... probably just crazy...
