I fixed the bug that (e:mike) noticed when trying to go back or forward after clicking on a date in the date cloud. You can now safely travel through time.

Fairy and the Terms of ServiceCategory: estrip
Paul
Well posted 1 blog so far, seems you group is rather unfriendly.
What you cannot promote yourself?
Two unkind remarks already, maybe your group is not worth hanging around.
(e:fairyastara) ,
Sorry that you feel that way but maybe you should have checked the terms of service agreement before posting your first journal (e:fairyastara,39209) about a commercial service.
Let me demonstrate what you would have seen if your read it:
Conduct
By becoming an (e:peep) you agree to not create and/or display (e:content) that:
1. is for commercial purposes, including but not limited to the sale of merchandise ...
Paul
I refuse to let people sell shit on the commercial free web space I worked so hard to shield from commercial influence. I myself spent thousands of hours working on this and have made no money from it. If you want to go ahead and talk about your life and spiritual beliefs people would take it a lot different than when you start out trying to sell something.
Just imagine it like this. A group of people in a club meet at Delaware park to talk about their lives, etc and someone they don't know comes up and says, "hey I sell crystal balls if you are interested." What do you think their reaction would be?

I appreciate the clarification. It's nice to see this really is a community. A fact demonstrated by this very discussion. Cheers!

Not to mention that, by enforce, I did not delete the journal or even request she take it down. I just explained that it was against the terms of service agreement.

I think (e:jenks) explained it very well. I do however, selectively enforce this when I feel it is taken to far, or when it is new people who have little vested interest in the community. Like I let (e:imk2) talk about selling her pots, because that was not what her journal is about, just a facet of it.

i think maybe the diff is- say hello, introduce yourself a little, before diving into a sales pitch. It's one thing to promote what you do as part of your journal, I think it's different if it's the SOLE purpose for being here. I notice that fairy did not respond to the "tell us about yourself" comments and chose to just leave....

how is it any different than people promoting their roller derby games or djing? which by the by I don't have a problem with, i'm just saying I tihnk tryting to promote things you do or are employed is just naturally part of a journal cuz it is part of what you do/who you are.

Paul, you did the right thing. But you knew that.
Lets be honest, if anybody deserves to make money here its you. As far as I'm concerned overt sales pitches should be deleted immediately - it spoils the community and goes against the ethos of the project. If somebody is offended by that... life is tough. Wear a helmet. This lady should understand that it has nothing to do with being friendly or not - it has to do with exactly what you just described.

New Date Selector CloudCategory: ideas
Well this is more of a pre-announcement but I am getting rid of the date drop down in favor of the date selection cloud. Months with more journals are bigger.
Here is an example from the development server showing my journal with the new style of date selection. Each month is a link. Looks like I was a much busy blogger around this time in 05.
I have lots of other updates coming soon as time warner can get my internet straight for more than 10 hours and I have some free-time from the big project at work.

One thing that I kind of miss from the previous "user was an entire db table" days was the numbering of entries (e.g. (e:carolinian) #32 (e:paul) #1250, etc), as it helped give me an idea of how a particular post fit into the grand scheme of all the other posts and to what an extent their journal was a snapshot of an (e:peep)'s life (i.e. if a post was #3000, you get the idea that for years the person was writing about every single thing that happened to them on (e:strip)). I think it would be great if you found a way to bring this feature back.
You might be able to do this elegantly with a custom aggregate function (assuming MySQL supports those yet, which I don't know off the top of my head).

We lost the artvoice best of buffaloCategory: artvoice
Same as always, we lost again. Maybe next year (e:lilho) will vote. The food was tasty again. I particularly liked the ribs.
I still can't upload anything on my time warner connection or even access my gmail.

i actually love that Wilson Farms and believe it could be the best convenience store in Buffalo. After Rudy's of course that is, but that won't win, its in the 'burbs.

First of all it is all about the amounts of votes. If someone has heard of a blog then they will pick that one the same thing with best buffalo website. It isn't like you have all these places and you rate them it is really a popularity contest. It is kinda like when WWE has bikini contests and the fans never yell at who is the hotest the yell at the fan favorite it is kinda the same thing here. Oh Josh When I used to Work there that Wilson Farms was the best store in the city. It was basicly a small supermarket. It also was the highest grossing one in sales. Part of that is the selection of items they had and some of it was all the hot cashiers and Stock Boys like my self who did a really good job and a few of the managers. But in terms of voting you had so many people who shoped there that it gets a lot of votes. The awards are really about numbers. In terms of hearing about (e:strip) there isn't a lot of press out there. In a way that is kinda good. What I mean is that if (e:strip) got to big then the community aspect would be different. You might have 30 groups and each group of friends was like 20 people and none of the groups interacted with each other. But that being said I think it would be good for (e:strip) to expand.

Exactly Josh. If best means riddled with panhandlers and degenerates on a daily basis, yeah it must be up there with any shithole in the city.

Its a complete sham that they cannot appreciate the idea of a community blog site. Every year the winner is usually a local blog that virtually nobody reads yet certain people that give away these awards are aware of.
At least you got a free meal out of it, but the "best of Buffalo" awards are ludicrous anyway. Who actually believes that the Wilson Farms next to my house has been Buffalo's "best" convenience store?

Artvoice Best of Buffalo 2007Category: artvoice
Be sure not to miss the Best of Buffalo party, Monday April 30 at the Town Ballroom (681 Main St) from 6-9pm, with complimentary food from Buffalo's best restaurants, and live music with the Skiffle Minstrals and the Steam Donkeys. quoted from artvoice
Ya, so we are nominated for best web site in Buffalo. Let's see if we win this year, of if it will have to wait till next year. Food is great though.

That sounds like a great time but mondays are bad for me. I know the site and Paul has some tough competition I wouldn't be surprised to find out that Paul won. It is hard to know cause I have no idea how many people read artvoice and out of that how many people vote. I will have my finger crossed hoping of a victory in both.
