war on terror

In response to Paul,
We will never be able to remove terrorism from the globe. I am willing to bet, that for each terrorist we destroy, two come back in his/her place. I have been agreeing with you for the last 2 years! Even if Bush went on a world conquering escapade, and the US spanned the globe, we would still have terror.

Instead of fighting the symptoms of terrorism, why don't we fight the cause? It sounds impossible, how do you give others the values that we (americans) live by? I agree that someone needs to fight terrorism, but let us stop the practices that cause terrorists to attack first. Then fight the terrorist groups, but on a lesser scale. Why doesn't the US just use small task forces to seek out the heads of the terrorist movements?

Sorry, just me rambling on a tired subject. Happy Howl-o-ween!

need coffee - puppy

The puppy is getting better. He sleeps for 3 or 4 hours at a time!
He also likes to give a lot of kisses.

If you search pugsley on flickr, I have many pictures posted there.
Game Design 101 today is the beginning of our Final game project. It can be anything, I'm not sure if I want to create some elaborate board game, or a card game with custom cards, or both. Either way, I need to start brainstorming!
For Fund. of Design on Wed, I need to shade a circle into a sphere.
It is refreshing to do something semi normal in a drawing class, but I do enjoy creativity projects also.

I have decided to leave PetCo, I will be taking up seasonal employment at Best Buy. I am still looking, but hopefully I can get some freelance work to suppliment the money I am not making. Anyone want to buy my truck?

Wish I could come to the Halloween Party, I regret never physically hanging out with the estrip crowd.

a sudden, profound realization on art

I had an epifanny today. I realized that the one thing I was missing out on at Canisius, was hard criticism and a challenge to blow away all that you have done before. Aside from a few classes, namely 3D and fine art studies, I was never fully challenged at Canisius, and my work suffered. At AIP, no one is afraid to tell it like they see it, and as harsh as that might sound, it is the most helpful thing one could wish for. My current design teacher's key phrase is get your money's worth! Meaning, don't come to class hopeing it will be canceled, don't be silent, PARTICIPATE, "get your money's worth!

My first assignment for Intro to Game design was to brainstorm 50 ideas for new hopscotch games, It was fun and rewarding at the same time. Afterwich I was required to complete a rule set for the game. i came up with things I never knew I could dream of!!!

And, as ab added bonus, the school has resources (physical people) that will send me freelance design and print jobs.!!

The only thing I wish that I would of received from Canisius while I was there was a few bad grades from some dfesign instructors or my intro teacher. We all need to be told about our creations' downfalls. It is a more enriching experience that way!

great look

Paul, I love the new fall look of (e:strip).com!

I am currently doing some design homework, I need to define and illustrate theelements and principles of art. I am having trouble illustrating form and unity!Anyone have any suggestions???

I also have a hw assignment to create a work of art using only the most creativelines possible. My only solid idea is to put a line on the edge of the pper, thatis creative. Color and contrasting lines is only considered semi-creative. I likethe class, it makes me think in a different way! But I am always open tosuggestions, they always foster new ideas!

first day at AIP

I just finished my first class at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
I must say that this school is full of the most interesting looking, diversified students I have laid eyes on. My first class was GAD101. Basically, we are going to learn what constitutes a good game and how a game is created and the process from start to finish; including the roles each plays! All course materials are online, and the instructor has worked for EA on Battlefield and Rome. Super cool guy, he is only 1/2 year older than me.

I am blowing time, because I need to go to ENG101 at 6pm. For some reason, I have to take it again???

animales!

I start my new job tomorrow at PetCo, I hope it leads to a great discount on pet supplies. Maybe I will even be able to start that reef tank I have always wanted!!! The job will by no means cover my monthly expenses, but I hope I will have a steady amount of work from RR Donnelley to suppliment $6.50 AN HOUR. Yes, I have a B.S.

On a happier note, school starts on Oct.3. Can't wait. I have to retake ENG101. haha how funny! have a great weekend estrip!

job search cont. - ANGRY

I find it funny that a retail store sales clerk position is better filled by a high school graduate rather than a educated person with a Bachelor's Degree! Has the advantage of attending a university been overrated? Is there any advantage in the job world for those with college educations? I can't even get an interview at the local starbucks, even though there are ootles of job openings out there???

I wonder if McDonalds would hire me? I'm probably over-educated!

jobs jobs jobs and the electronic wall

I have spent the better part of the last 4 weeks looking for a job.
It is a tiresom task. Most want ads don't want phone calls, so it is difficult to even follow up on your application.

I feel I can only send so many emails. I guess the whole idea is to save time for the recruiter. It saddens me to think about how difficult it is to network and meet people because of the electronic "wall" that has been created.

Have any of you (e:strip) peeps seen my resumé out "there?" I feel as though I have sent it to half the country. I will never abandon all hope, it just seems circular at times.

get paper...
circle ads...
send resumé...
follow up (maybe)....
get paper...

animalé

Cassie and I went to the Pittsburgh zoo today. It was great, they even have a huge aquarium. That would be a great job, wouldn't it? I would be in heaven if I could work for an aquarium!!
The Pittsburgh Zoo is larger than the Buffalo zoo, and it has more animals, but the variety of animals is the same. The Buffalo Zoo has probably a greater variety, because the PPG Zoo doesn't have a lot of smaller animals.
I took as many pictures as I could, but my camera battery died. Guess that is just an excuse to go back again soon!!
Does anyone have any pointers for taking pictures of monkeys behind glass??
You would think they would use an invisible forcefield instead. It is probably a lot more expensive though.

OK, here they are....
