birding

Finally, something to be inspired to write about. I've had a rather severe block past few months......

Went to Tifft Nature Preserve Monday with my two littlest guys. What a great little piece of urban nature. It's a perfect hike for the 3 year olds and not a bad meander for the 40 year olds. If you're into the birds, well this is better than the backyard and Delaware Park. I managed to see and hear tons of yellow warblers- probably 20 or so.... even while my eyes were darting around to keep track of rather adventurous 3 and 1 1/2 olds (esp near the water). also saw some sort of flycatcher yet to be identified, probably a female. Wonderful way to spend 2 hours outside with the kids.

Today while driving on my route 5 past Tifft, on way home from Botanical Gardens, I saw my first Scarlet Tanager!!!!!! verrryy exciting. It was in flight and ever so beautiful.

The Botanical Gardens were nice, a little disappointed in the Coleus Show. Maybe it's because it was not very relaxing to keep the boys from collecting pebbles from the plant beds and redistribute them among other plants. My 1 1/2 old guy wanted to swim with the coy, and my 3 year old wanted to ride on the dinosaur topiaries. They had a good time all in all and are talking it up at home to their older brothers, so it must have been a worthwhile visit.

goodnight.

heavy whirling winds under one roof

There's been a tornado in my house the past few days. Make that 4 tornadoes. Maybe now that winter's back spring tornado season will be over. I find myself doing Lamaze breathing to get through the day. One day..... this will be really funny, ha ha ha aaaaaaa

whatin the world?

Did anyone see the news article online about the 4 year old boy who took the family car for a spin to the video store at midnight while his mother was sleeping? they were closed so he drove home and only hit 2 parked cars on the way. Thought I had a few years until I had to worry about that.

none, nun or won?

things aren't what they seem to be. or are they. will the real pack of lies please stand up. soap operas mirror life or life mirrors media. who is being fooled or what is the manipulation all about? snowballs start out pretty small and when they roll downhill they become boulders- amazon snowpeople.

Another day after all that

Went to the library after school today- I must be crazy going there with 4 boys. Everyone elso thought I was crazy too. The baby pooped, the 2 year old was fighting with a little girl over the green chair, the 5 year old wanted to borrow 10 movies and the 7 year old asked me where the section on politics was. So 2 armloads later: Dumbo, The Egyptian World, Picky Princess, The Eyewitness book about the Presidents and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish...... and so on; we were ready to leave....or so I thought. After my 5 year old dropped his books 3 or 4 times, the librarian brought over a bag- not sure if he was sympathetic or just pissed off. Sent the 7 year old to the car with the baby, but of course, the 2 year old was NOT ready to leave. A very embarrassed mama (that's me) had to carry him out to the car- boots flying, legs kicking, coatless and screaming.

Some day I'll be at the library all by myself and I'll be daydreaming fondly of these days...I think I might even be melancholy enough to even miss them. I know this because I often have this feeling on a night like tonight when I peek into each room, soak up the serene expressions on their peaceful sleeping faces, give them a little kiss and take a deep breath. It's a tingling feeling of satisfaction that I've made it through another day. And...it put's a little smile on my face.

Goodnight.

Digital Camera

Now the I have 5 rolls of film to take into Nova for developing I've decided it's probably time to think about a digital camera. The phone cam's been fun, but it's just a tease- can't zoom, poor quality. I'm ready- where do I shop for a digital camera- any of you "tech"ies have some suggestions for me?

Christmas Cactus

Every November I wonder why the Christmas Cactus is named the way that it is--Thanksgiving Cactus would be more appropriate...at least for this growing zone.
It's a beautiful thing when the last autumn leaves have fallen, the trees are bare and brown, and buds begin to open on my Christmas Cactus. When it's in full bloom, it's a sight for sore eyes...everyone should have one.

Maybe that would brighten things up around here. Everyone seems to be so down in the dumps. The election results didn't help in that regard- but it is what it is- so EVERYONE...put a smile on your face, a Christmas Cactus in your bedroom and think positive. If that doesn't work, I guess you could just pine away and melt into a mud puddle under a tree just before a dog walks by to take a leak on you.

On another note- went to Allentown Hardware last night. I really like the atmosphere, very bohemian...and the Spanish music they were playing was good too, not to mention the wine, wine, wine.

silence

The house is so silent that my ears are ringing.....

[inlink]ajay,186[/inlink] Just a little reminder that Masiello ran uncontested in the last election. That's a sad state of affairs- but this time around looks like we may have a few decent candidates to choose from.

My son wrote a letter to George W. for his homework tonight- It goes like this:

Hi Mr President,

I'm writing to tell you that I want the war to end.
I'd like to have healthcare for everyone.
Please bring the troops back from Iraq and use the money to pay for healthcare for everyone.

Thank you for reading my letter carefully,

Yours truly,
My son

If only it were that easy!

Daisy

Our new kitten is feeling quite at home. In fact, I think she really thinks I'm her mom. I woke up in the middle of the night last night to nurse the baby and I realized that Daisy is nursing on the blankets around me. No wonder she's always purring and curled up to me. She also thinks my husband is her dad- this morning, while she was checking out the water droplets running down the shower door, he opened it and tossed her in. Just like a dad.
