Finally, something to be inspired to write about. I've had a rather severe block past few months......
Went to Tifft Nature Preserve Monday with my two littlest guys. What a great little piece of urban nature. It's a perfect hike for the 3 year olds and not a bad meander for the 40 year olds. If you're into the birds, well this is better than the backyard and Delaware Park. I managed to see and hear tons of yellow warblers- probably 20 or so.... even while my eyes were darting around to keep track of rather adventurous 3 and 1 1/2 olds (esp near the water). also saw some sort of flycatcher yet to be identified, probably a female. Wonderful way to spend 2 hours outside with the kids.
Today while driving on my route 5 past Tifft, on way home from Botanical Gardens, I saw my first Scarlet Tanager!!!!!! verrryy exciting. It was in flight and ever so beautiful.
The Botanical Gardens were nice, a little disappointed in the Coleus Show. Maybe it's because it was not very relaxing to keep the boys from collecting pebbles from the plant beds and redistribute them among other plants. My 1 1/2 old guy wanted to swim with the coy, and my 3 year old wanted to ride on the dinosaur topiaries. They had a good time all in all and are talking it up at home to their older brothers, so it must have been a worthwhile visit.
goodnight.
