Pittsburgh Kindness Initative
Category: random
At the Carson Street Rita's, (e:paul) and I went with my family and Emily's friend Laura for water ice, a flavor ice type thing. Although they were out of the Swedish Fish flavor today. Paul and I split a black cherry water ice with vanilla custard.

I went to go pay for the water ice and the cashier handed us these cards and told us that it already had been taken care of. Someone from the Pittsburgh Kindness Initiative covered the bill for a bunch of people. Ridiculous, but awesome. We're supposed to take the cards and pay it forward. I wonder how we should?

It really is such a cool idea. Maybe we'll kick it off in Buffalo!

I wanna be part of the kindness initiative! That's too cool. :)

Pittsburgh vs Buffalo
Category: travel
(e:paul) and I drove down to Pittsburgh this morning to meet with my family for Emily's birthday . We started at Duquesne to pick her up. It was 50 and sunny unlike Buffalo. Her campus has a crazy amazing view over Pittsburgh on the highest hill downtown. Her dorm was brand new and ridiculously nice.

We went out to dinner at the Pittsburgh Steak Company. I had an alright vegetable wrap. You'd have to ask someone else if the steak was any good though.

After we went down Carson Street to Ritas Water Ice. Its similar to Elmwood except way more yuppified and a lot nicer looking. Most of the buildings are brick too. Pittsburgh seems cooler than Buffalo right now, but the grass is always greener right?

Wasteland Rave
Category: dancing

After Mickey's reading, (e:paul) (e:terry), (e:flacidness) and I headed over to the rave at the Wastelands
The place was set up pretty cool, possibly an old bank vault? The music was decent and so was the dacing but the smoke was terrible. I don't know how people smoke.

We got a little crazy but especially Terry. It made it a crazy good time. We went to bed about 4 when Paul and I were supposed to leave for Pittsburgh the next day at 10.

Seabar with Paul
Category: food
Yesterday after work, (e:paul) and I were feeling the bougie waves of hunger wash over us. So we went to Seabar. It was my first time there and it was the best food ever.

We split the seaweed salad and the carmelized goat cheese salad. The goat cheese salad had a little torched crust like a creme brulee along with celery leaf greens and a raspberry vinegar sauce.

image
image
I got the vegetarian rolls, with red pepper, avacado, mushroom and cucumber. We also split the sugar egg Tamago roll. I bet we can make something like these at home, just not as pretty looking.

image
We got dessert too. It was this peanut butter fudge type crispy treat, with caramel sauce, berries and whipped cream.

After we got back, I did duolingo and watched more Teen Wolf with (e:terry).

joe - 03/24/14 12:56
Haha (e:tinypliny) I think each roll was $7 except the vegetarian was $6! With the dessert, wine and tip I think it ended up about $30 a person, which seems crazy. But as a once in a while thing it was really amazing. I'd say a trip back to Buffalo is worth it even without sushi though, lol.

(e:lilho) I've gone full boug. Thank (e:paul).

(e:jbeatty) Thanks, that actually looks like doable for a non-cook like me. I definitely believe it. I want to reverse engineer those treats.
jbeatty - 03/22/14 11:00
They have the best tomago! It's actually really fun to make. Just watch a couple of youtube videos. You don't need the square pan, just a decent non-stick skillet.

I love the chocolate peanut butter crisps too. The cooks would give us the scrap edges of those. I think that's part of the reason I gained 10lbs when I worked there!
lilho - 03/21/14 17:02
I love that place you bougie little whore! Looks delish. ;)

  • drool drool*

May I ask how much was each dish? I am trying to add up everything + the plane trip to Buffalo to justify to myself that it is okay to eat granny smiths and chocolate for dinner again tonight without suffering from green pangs of jealousy.
