Browser Stats June 2011
Category: web
In august, google is dropping support for IE 7 . Sadly, for a cutting edge reseach center, we are still using such outdated web technology as the default browser. No that we are special, I bet other places are just as behind. The problem stems from lazy vendors building everything to work in one browser. I hate having to build crap for IE 7 or even 8 as it severly limits what is possible compared to the more modern HTML 5 browsers. Its even worse with any non web software (which there is a ton of) and requires Win XP, an OS from 10 years ago. Imagine if we had to use cell phones from 10 years ago.

It's especially weird at my work because all new computers at come with windows 7 and IE 8. I guess they have to wait for vendor approval to upgrade the old ones? To me that just seems like a lame excuse as they have had years to resolve this and IE8 has IE7 compat mode.

Anyways thats not the point of this blog. The point is that my internet stats for estrip show that IE's total share for all versions is only 18% of viewers. I know we are a weird niche population but thats crazy considering several eyars ago it was over 80% of the visitors.

Microsoft is going down. Its about time.

Chrome on windows has the single largest share at 26% for windows and firefox on windows has 27%.

Overall Visitors % by OS/browser:
Windows OS: Firefox 27.95%, Chrome 26.59%, IE 18.58%, Safari 0.30%, Opera 1.08%
Mac OS: Safari 6.63%, Firefox 5.26%, Chrome 1.90%
Linux: Firefox 1.84%, Chrome 1.25%
Android: Android Browser 1.07%, Safari? 2.19% curiously more than iphone
iPhone: Safari 2.07%
iPad: Safari 0.84%
iPod: Safari 0.55%

In general, its still a 74.63% of visitors coming from windows world. Mac is at 13.85%, android, 3.29%, Linux 3.18%, iPhone at 2.21%, ipad 0.93%, iPod 0.61%, blackberry 0.26%, playstation 3 0.12%

Btw, you can install chrome even if you don't have admin rights. Just sayin...
metalpeter - 06/04/11 18:27
Well what you aren't saying is that a lot of it going down is from you and I like that....Let me explain....

If you have a mac from what I understand you have Safari or if you have itunes on your computer you get it with that also....

I remember that you said at some point the way the website was set up firefox was the best for it... So I went with firefox or atleast for here... Guessing a lot of other people did as well.... I would come on here with IE and it just wouldn't work right sometimes I would log in and not be able to log out.... Somehow my firefox became really bad guessing that some of those programs you can ad is what messed it up but not sure....

I love the ads for chrome by the way if I had gmail then maybe I could do all the stuff in both ads I've seen on TV yes one of them was for the itgetsbetter videos on youtube... Then you went with chrome and instead of doing the upload thing you can do the drag and drop for pictures that is awesome!!!

Some sites support some browsers and not others based on whom ever makes them...No idea how they decide that.

What you said about IE and a lot of people using that is true... I think one of the issues is at work... For example where I work if I go onto facebook not sure if that is really ok but IE ain't so great and zombie pets takes forever... But it is a work computer so I don't think I can just go download chrome... I'm guessing there are a lot of people like that.... You have to remember you are a computer person. I think most people who go out and buy one don't know (I know I sure don't) about all the different ways to go on the web and why..... So they use what they have....

So I just want to say thank you......
tinypliny - 06/03/11 20:04
I don't browse the internet too much from linux laptop... maybe I should. Its a speed machine.

Chrome is the future of browsers!

The backyard in Summer
Category: linwood
It gets better every year. I realized just how much I love our rustic backyard in the middle of the city during our BBQ party last night.

This is the same party I did a one handed cartwheel while holding a full size axe and chopping wood as dared by (e:Mike). I wonder if the dare had to do with his name on my insurance policy. The axe provided a lot of entertainment. (E:samathon1986) hit one log straight in half with the ax. So did (e:Terry)'s friend pat.

Partway through the party the grill died. Seemed like a disaster. Then I took over the grill and it worked leading to some pretty delicious grilled shrimp and pineapple.

It looks nice.......
matthew - 06/04/11 11:15
It does keep getting better. I was thinking that the other day. We are very lucky to have a space like that in the city.
tinypliny - 06/03/11 20:08
And what's with the random 2 pics of grass?
tinypliny - 06/03/11 20:07
"rustic backyard"

Is the out-of-place middle picture with rust some hidden reference?
tinypliny - 06/03/11 20:06
"I did a one handed cartwheel while holding a full size axe and chopping wood as dared by ((e:Mike))."

It only counts if you were holding on to the axe using your toes.

Dear Annoying Nameless
Category: people
I spent like 10 hours deleting you from my life. I would have responded to your messages but you had deleted your email out.

As requested, I removed your name anywhere I ever mentioned you, I deleted your freaking account as requested after you deleted all of your journals. I also asked the two other people that used your first name to remove it. I even blurred your face out of photos that had other people in them.

Anything else remaining on the internet is your problem - the google cache should clean up over time, although I can't speak for anything people posted elsewhere or cached elsewhere. e.g. what the people that you said already found out about your "scandalous past" have done with the "incriminating photos," lol. I can't even believe you think drinking a beer in a low cut hoodie showing cleavage is scandalous. I don't envy you having to live up to the puritanical expectation of having a completely vanilla past when you were in college.

I wish you the great success keeping your future as sanitized as your past. Please don't ever talk to me again.
tinypliny - 06/05/11 11:22
(e:imk2), I miss you!
paul - 06/05/11 11:12
It definately was no (e:imk2). If it was you I would imagine you complaining that I didn't have enough scandalous photos of you, lol.
metalpeter - 06/05/11 11:05
When I first read this I was like if it is IMK2 I'm getting a passport to go find her....HA.... I won't say the name other then to say it isn't carey and she stayed in the (e:pmt) house hold for some time...

Not to pick sides but I think for some reason she had concerns about (e:strip) and who saw her but not on other social networking sites but not sure.... She does have a right to privacy.... But you don't need to delete anything you just put all the posts to private aka unseen and unless you are the one running the site or gets access to it you are fine........
imk2 - 06/05/11 10:53
OMG! it wasn't me, i swear, lol
lilho - 06/04/11 12:14
what?!!!!!!!!
matthew - 06/04/11 11:06
You guys should leave it alone. We all have a right to our privacy without having Paul use it for estrip ratings.
mike - 06/04/11 10:48
I figured it out ...search for nameless bit** but without the stars and the real letters of the word instead
leetee - 06/04/11 10:04
interesting.... i don't know how to search for blurred out pics, so i echo what (e:Mike) says -- who who who who who
mike - 06/04/11 01:25
who who who who who
metalpeter - 06/03/11 16:21
wow that is insane ....
jbeatty - 06/03/11 15:47
I have enjoyed searching for all of the posts with her face blurred out.

Libertad in the window
Saw this in the costumeshop window in main street. Couldn't help but think of (e:libertad).

mike - 06/03/11 23:37
hmm that was supposed to be on the Tabree journal
paul - 06/03/11 15:01
You ate at the costume shop?
mike - 06/03/11 11:31
I think me and (E:mk) went there once, but I am not totally clear on that. It might have been a different restaurant in that location but it was tasty either way!
tinypliny - 06/03/11 11:01
C.reepy with a capital C.

I want to eat at this restaurant on elmwood near Bryant. Its right next door to our yoga class and you can see their back patio outside the yoga room. Has anyone been there?

jbeatty - 06/03/11 15:19
We went when they first opened. They didn't have a liquor license yet and we brought our own wine. I think that'
s the only time I have ever done that. It certainly cut down on the price. I remember the Croque Monsieur and the frites with aoili were really delicious. Honestly the patio was totally the best part. I think its a real hidden gem.
tinypliny - 06/03/11 12:18
They have an all-flash website: :::link:::
and a super fancy menu. And 43 mixed reviews: :::link::: It is expensive. Looks like it's an Elmwood version of Left Bank.
matthew - 06/03/11 12:09
I know someone who has. They liked it. It's a French restaurant. Is try it, especially if they have escargot.
tinypliny - 06/03/11 11:00
Isn't it the restaurant that is so elite that it does not have name display outside? I have a feeling it might be crazy expensive... but then again, maybe not. Does it have a site or a menu online?
