Swimming at the beach
Category: swimming
I am so glad I got to go swimming. I have no pictures but (e:heidi,52672) , took some. Just like when it is warm out and the super shallow is super warm, today that part was super cold. Once it was deep enough to swim in the water was about the same as usual. The water temp doesn't fluctuate as fast as the air. It was so great to swim without the lifeguards present. You could actually go out to where you could swim instead of wade.

I really feel like they need to change the whole system during the summer. Make it swim in the lines in for protection or swim outside at your own risk. Even if it is 18 and over something but I would really like somewhere you could just go out and full on swim. Seems like every other city on water has beaches like that. It makes me hate Buffalo sometimes.

lets runaway to the caribbean...

Well that swimming out side of the lines at your own risk wouldn't work. What is a lifeguard to do just watch you drown? Even though it says at your own risk if they could save you morally they are obligated to. But also legally I think they would be also. If you want to swim you can do so between those lines though. Hope everyone had a good time!

The Steer Restaurant
Category: food
Tried to go to Pho 99 for dinner last night but it was closed so we went to the Steer. I had never been there for dinner. By the sign on the outside that said, steaks, ribs, fresh seafood and the name Steer, I got the idea that it was a steakhouse.

However, the menu inside has no steak or ribs but instead a bunch of tasty small size tapas style foods. Thats a seriously change.

I mean it tasted delicious and I would totally go back but it was definitely not filling like the steak I wanted ever the whole day of hiking. I had the lamb burger, the calamari in lime chili sauce (amazing) and the fig proscuitto pizza.

Update: They own Dug's Dive and the Lake Effect Diner too Dug's Dive is definitely one of my favorites in town. I heard this year it will be open year round.

I added their current menu to this blog. You can now uploads PDFs to estrip.

I added the menu to this blog

Ya, times are changing (e:tinypliny). I think they might have had things you might eat. They even had a fig and carmelized onion pizza like fiddleheads but they added proscuitto, which I am sure you could of have removed.

Steer Restaurant. Are we being clear?

Pear Time
Category: food
The wind blew all the pears down. I am kind of sad because they weren't ripe yet and because they have the stupid blight. Luckily, the blight is only on the skin and the pears will ripen soon enough even off the tree.

Its going to be a while before these can be used for anything. They are very unripe right now.
enknot - 09/06/10 10:56

Ham Parfait
Category: food
I tried to post this earlier but my connection died. Seriously, this ham parfait was so gross.

lilho - 09/09/10 14:10

jbeatty - 09/06/10 08:38

Griffis Sculpture Park
Category: hiking
I really enjoyed the day at Griffis Sculpture Park with (e:matthew), (e:enknot), (e:keithT), (e:terry) and I went out down to the park.

(e:keith) had a hard time getting 3g so he went to the top of the tower
image

The white flowers are awesome.
image

Keith looks like he is having fun.
image

This is matthew from the tower
image

This statue was gigantic.
image

The palette hive was awesome. It seems like they nailed it together and then shaved it with a chain saw.
image

(e:keith) really loves a handful of metal
image

here is (e:Terry) as a monkey, you should have seen (e:keith)'s reach

(e:Terry) and (e:enknot) in a tree

Here is the KML file to track our path through the woods. I figured it would almost be impossible to find some of the stuff again without it. I forgot to track the part from the parking lot to the cement bags sculpture, the place where I started recording.

metalpeter - 09/06/10 16:17
Also looks like it was a good time, heard rumors that many brain cells died up there from lots of parting over the years
tinypliny - 09/06/10 12:44
It looks pretty morbid and disturbed.
paul - 09/06/10 11:25
Totally creepy. (e:keith) tried to convince me they killed hikers and stored them inside the statues.
jbeatty - 09/06/10 08:39
Such a fun hike. The heads all the way back in the woods are a little creepy though.
