The T-shirt factoryCategory: ideas
If American Apparel can make sweat-free T's in LA, and make a profit. Why can't the same be done in NY?
Now, I know NOTHING about t-shirt manufacture, but I do know that we have a lot of available space. I also know that we have a lot of labor. Sure, taxes are high, but they are in LA, too.
I DO know that the shirts made by American Apparel feel better than any I have ever worn, and that people will pay extra for a shirt that is comfy, cool, and local.
I also know that every entrepreneur in Buffalo has started a screen printing t-shirt shop. So why not create t's locally to sell to them?
Another con--there isn't much local cotton (or any), but right now, the average t-shirt is made with American cotton shipped to the far East. Buffalo would be a much shorter trip.
I would encourage everybody to join me in brainstorming ways to create jobs in this city. We need them.

That was too much doom and gloom. Sorry. I will do a little research and post something positive.

Something fishy is going on over at AA: :::link:::
I think you have a fabulous idea. Over a third of the city lives under the poverty line. Unskilled jobs that pay a living wage would help this city more than the freakin Empire Development Zone ever did (tax breaks for Celino and Barnes, and hotels that pay minimum wage!). A whole lot of labor and IDA reform has to happen before manufacturing jobs like this can really happen.

This is just not satisfactory. I have been a bad (e:strip) blogger.
I'm going to write something. But not tonight. Or tomorrow. Tonight I am too tired to think and I have a funeral, a meeting, and a class to teach tomorrow.
But on Friday, I will write about one of the following.
Comedysportz.
Football.
How awesome church is going to be on Sunday, even though it is going to make people angry (or maybe because of it).
Writing a play or screenplay.
My growing admiration for Stephen Colbert.
My growing dissatisfaction with just about every American politician.
My (thus far) secret development of an Obama impression. (I've got the voice pretty good, but look nothing like him)
My desire to open up a t-shirt factory in Buffalo.
You can vote on what I should blog about. I will write it on Friday after a much deserved sleep in.
Actually, if anybody wants to share a beverage on Thursday night, it's my Friday, and I will be ready for a cold one.

I say what ever you pick should be something that isn't on Facebook also if that is possible. I say go for the T-Shirt factory? It would be interesting to hear what kinds of shirts you would make and sell. I could see some funny ones like.
"I pray for the Bills every week and it never works"
"should I change my Faith?"
"Oh wait you Pray for them and they still don't win, Never Mind".
Well you are the one who does Improve so I'm sure you can come up with better lines then I.

I'm interested in your theological provocations, too. they always generate such interesting conversation here. Colbert is always good, i definitely want to hear about your Comedysportz experience (pix??). Tshirt factory? Isn't that what china's for? JUST KIDDING!

On Labor Day, Janelle and I are inviting YOU to eat brunch at our house. There will be pancakes, bacon and mimosas for sure, but probably also some of my secret recipe "birthday casserole" (previously deemed so unhealthy as to only be consumed once annually, hence the name) and whatever yummy brunch items others care to share.
We will also play variegated and sundry games, such as the Western New York's own Kan-Jam (tm).
Your attendance is kindly requested. A comment, or response to the facebook event page will help us estimate the amount of batter to prepare. We hope to require so much that we are forced to rent a cement mixer.

We only used a plumber once in Buffalo - Hertel Hardware and Plumbing. :::link::: 716.875.3900. We hired them to install a Noritz tankless water heater. They were on-time and completed the work as promised. We were referred to them by Irr Plumbing Supply. We chose them because they had staff trained by Noritz. We were very satisfied. We are planning to use them again. I'm not sure how competitive their prices are for more mundane plumbing work.
I've never had him do any work for me, but Pat VanDeWater is a friend-of-a-friend, and a really good guy... i would probably call him if I needed something.
Our friend/ regular plumber is good but he also has probation issues which make getting him here tough.
My parents swear by Larry's Plumbing - Licensed - 871-1980. I haven't tried him yet.
Bub Stanley. I don't think his probation officer lets him out of the state, though. ;-)
My favourite plumber quite being a plumber not too long back and is starting a new business in Tenesssee completely unrelated to plumbing! If I have a sink crisis now, I might be totally doomed.
