I like Christmas parties
But I don't like Christmas. (not until Dec 24, anyway).

I like apple cider, but not apple pie, apples, or apple juice.

I like sleeping in the morning, but not going to bed at night.

I like (e:strip), but I never post.

Sorry about that.

My friend wrote a paper that had a great line.

"The church is like manure. If you spread it out, something beautiful might grow, but if you pile it up, it starts to stink."

I haven't opened a t-shirt factory or written my play, but I am going to get back to the play after Christmas, for real.

Sheriff
I do not know too much about the challenger in the Sheriff's race, but I do know that the county's holding center is messed up. The state and federal governments are suing the county for access. There are tales of people not having access to basic necessities such as toilet paper and toothpaste. There have been allegations of abuse.

Not that anybody deserves this treatment, but keep in mind that this is the HOLDING CENTER. YOU could find yourself there, even if you have not been convicted. There is no excuse to mistreat a prisoner, but it is even worse when a person has not even had a trial.

I am rarely political online, but this is a human rights issue. Vote today.
james - 11/04/09 00:08
Prisoner rights is such a dead end issue. It is tough to get people motivated about it. After all, all prisoners are rapists and murderers, not people with unpaid parking tickets....

Now you're sick?
heidi - 11/03/09 14:05
done!
janelle - 11/03/09 10:45
What are you doing on estrip? Go back to bed, sicko!

And I guess I'll see if I can go and vote tonight. I am disturbed by the situation with the holding center.

(e:drew) is so right in pointing out that a lot of people in the holding center are just there waiting trial.

Plumber
Who is your favorite plumber? What's his (or her) phone number?
uncutsaniflush - 10/26/09 20:24
We only used a plumber once in Buffalo - Hertel Hardware and Plumbing. :::link::: 716.875.3900. We hired them to install a Noritz tankless water heater. They were on-time and completed the work as promised. We were referred to them by Irr Plumbing Supply. We chose them because they had staff trained by Noritz. We were very satisfied. We are planning to use them again. I'm not sure how competitive their prices are for more mundane plumbing work.
jenks - 10/26/09 16:27
I've never had him do any work for me, but Pat VanDeWater is a friend-of-a-friend, and a really good guy... i would probably call him if I needed something.
paul - 10/26/09 15:38
Our friend/ regular plumber is good but he also has probation issues which make getting him here tough.

My parents swear by Larry's Plumbing - Licensed - 871-1980. I haven't tried him yet.
heidi - 10/25/09 19:30
Bub Stanley. I don't think his probation officer lets him out of the state, though. ;-)
tinypliny - 10/25/09 18:00
My favourite plumber quite being a plumber not too long back and is starting a new business in Tenesssee completely unrelated to plumbing! If I have a sink crisis now, I might be totally doomed.

The T-shirt factory
Category: ideas
If American Apparel can make sweat-free T's in LA, and make a profit. Why can't the same be done in NY?

Now, I know NOTHING about t-shirt manufacture, but I do know that we have a lot of available space. I also know that we have a lot of labor. Sure, taxes are high, but they are in LA, too.

I DO know that the shirts made by American Apparel feel better than any I have ever worn, and that people will pay extra for a shirt that is comfy, cool, and local.

I also know that every entrepreneur in Buffalo has started a screen printing t-shirt shop. So why not create t's locally to sell to them?

Another con--there isn't much local cotton (or any), but right now, the average t-shirt is made with American cotton shipped to the far East. Buffalo would be a much shorter trip.

I would encourage everybody to join me in brainstorming ways to create jobs in this city. We need them.
jason - 10/09/09 15:35
Empire Development Zones. That kills me weren't those used to build some of the mucho dinero condos and business lofts? They advertise...."Tax benefits!!!!" Just kills me.
james - 10/09/09 13:11
That was too much doom and gloom. Sorry. I will do a little research and post something positive.
james - 10/09/09 13:10
Something fishy is going on over at AA: :::link:::

I think you have a fabulous idea. Over a third of the city lives under the poverty line. Unskilled jobs that pay a living wage would help this city more than the freakin Empire Development Zone ever did (tax breaks for Celino and Barnes, and hotels that pay minimum wage!). A whole lot of labor and IDA reform has to happen before manufacturing jobs like this can really happen.
