Flight 3407
Category: airplanes
Wow, nothing makes the thought of riding in a plane scarier than a commuter plane hitting a local house and everyone dying. Its the same type of plane we take all the time from NYC.

The news on TV is so super lame they just keep saying the same thing over and over. On youtube I found an interview with some local youths that were right at the scene.

I wonder if I will know anyone who was on the flight.

Here is another cell phone video of the fire.

On the news they said it really took out just one house. Imagine if your house was hit by a plane. One person in the house died.

Here is a pic from the story on wkbw That link is the most comprehensive information I could find about the crash.
image

They also had a link to and claimed this is a picture of the plane that crashed. I think I have been on that type of plane on the way home form every vacation I was ever on. Either from Detroit or from NYC. I think I will really have a hard time ever going on a plane again.

This is the house that is destroyed as per (e:tinypliny)'s link

an old coworker at chris' lived in the house behind this one? like... their backyards faced eachother, or so she said. i guess she was home when it happened.
metalpeter - 02/13/09 19:39
That is one weird looking plane. That fire looks pretty intense. I'm surprised it is international news.
janelle - 02/13/09 14:02
I'm not crazy. Google "turbo props" and icy conditions.

Turbo props are far more likely to accumulate ice and crash than jets.
drew - 02/13/09 12:32
And just to confirm, I do think that my wife is crazy.
hodown - 02/13/09 12:30
Its all over NYC as well.
carolinian - 02/13/09 12:14
Just to put things in perspective :::link:::

Safety-wise, I'd take a plane over my daily commute any day.
paul - 02/13/09 11:56
It must be all over the news everywhere, because my friend Yvonne in Flensburg just wrote to ask if I was okay after she heard about the crash.
mike - 02/13/09 11:51
teres said it is all over the news in england
janelle - 02/13/09 11:24
Turboprops have a slightly higher incidence of crashing in icy conditions than jets. Ice may have been the cause of this crash.

Drew thinks I'm crazy, but on my last trip home, I decided to stop flying turboprops. I know you can't protect yourself from everything, but I feel more secure flying when it's not a turbo prop.
tinypliny - 02/13/09 10:44
I have actually been on the same route a couple times in the past. :( This is the unfortunate home that was destroyed > :::link:::

I love oysters
Category: birthdays
We went to Black and Blue agsint for my mother's birthday.

I had the lump crapmeat again. There is nothing like a large quantity
of crabmeat without the effort of wrestling them from the shell.

For an appetizer i had oystetd. These ones came with fish roe that
was mixed with wasabi powder.

The ones labeled alpine cove were especially delicious.

Afterwards, we went to my mothers and ate delicious pastries rom Premier and Dolci that my brother picked up.

Here is my mom showing my dad a cute card she got from (e:libertad).

I really want to try that restaurant. The dining room looks really nice, and I love any place that serves oysters. Except Hooters.

More Mckinley Mall - Frank Lloyd Wright
Category: buffalo
The other day, when at the McKinley mall I noticed that their lounge/sitting area was distinctly Frank Lloyd Wright style. My brother would not believe me when I told him, so here are the pic - you decide.

First check out the ceiling pattern and colors, openess and natural lighting.

image

Here check out the open space, large oversize pots and furniture, plus the color
image

Then this pillar with the tiles
image

Unrelated:

They had snow shoe attachments for your sneakers at the mall. Has anyone used these before. Its like snow tires for your sneakers.
image

My stomahc is getting buffer with 100 situps a day routine. I am also only like 2 lbs away from my target weight of 160.
image

Shopping Tip: Organic vanilla beans are cheaper than the conventional ones in the wegman's natures market place area.

image

While there you can also get a 5lb bag of 16-20 count wild caught shrimp for $50. That's only $9.99/lb.
tinypliny - 02/13/09 03:19
I had yak trax on my shoes for my second winter in Rochester. My friend got it for me because I fell around 20 times in my first winter. I wore it all the time and in the end the springs came off and as I was walking in my department's corridor, one of the springs got stuck in the carpet fabric and unravelled a whole line of carpet without my realizing. I could never play down that incident because the unravelled line lead directly from the stairs to my office! People pointed at it for a whole year and the stories became wilder and wilder. I think the last time I heard it - people were talking about how I had swapped desks with a grad student from another program and had dragged it all the way up the stairs and tore the carpet!! (I did swap a desk with someone, but come on!)

PS: The other grad student had a pink and white desk and hated the fact that it was too feminine. I traded my brown and black desk. Hehehe Man. I miss it!
jacob - 02/13/09 03:13
FLW definitely. Your chest has angry eyes! (>.<)
heidi - 02/12/09 21:51
The shoes - Yak Tracks? are the latest rage among the outdoor gear types. They work really well, according to Liz at wildasaphoutfitters.com in Tioga County.

Definitely FLW.
metalpeter - 02/12/09 18:27
(e:mrmike) that is a great line. Of course they might not be able to find the food court either and if they did they might wind up someplace else when they tried to leave
leetee - 02/12/09 13:57
totally frank lloyd wright.
mrmike - 02/12/09 11:03
I agree, and better him than MC Escher (people would never leave the food court)
hodown - 02/12/09 09:25
Thats typical FLW. You're right.

The roof has finally caved in

How long before the is a major accident?
image
paul - 02/12/09 02:44
In response to tiny. Ya, people keep ripping down the caution tape like its an incovenience - instead of a life saver. I have no idea why people walk on that side of the street. I stopped once the first floor caved in and get pushed out the front door. Since, they cleaned that up and boarded up the door hole.
dcoffee - 02/11/09 13:21
son of a bitch
libertad - 02/10/09 21:35
Reminds me of Cuba. Buildings would frequently crumble sometimes with people in them.
tinypliny - 02/10/09 20:34
Is this the building on the corner of Allen and Main? Damn, so many kids walk on the footpath in front of it even though it says its closed to traffic. I am scared to think of future disasters. :(
james - 02/10/09 20:29
You would think that buildings off Historic Allentown and near the propersous medical corridor would fucking not cave in.
joshua - 02/10/09 14:37
I wonder if the city even has an accounting of how many downtown buildings are in this condition.

Super nintendo

This was only a fraction of the super nintendo games available at the
mckinley mall.

The amazing thing is you could probably fit all the roms on one DVD.
