Halloween Party 2008
Category: holiday
We started out the day at the Bonton so that (e:hodown) could get pantyhose and some makeup.
image

We decked out the house with lots of spider webby stuff.
image

I decided to be the demon farmer. I wanted a costume that was fun, easy, and revealing. I thought this one worked.
image

By 5am I was pretty much exhausted. This is me trying to make a serious face while posing for (e:hodown). It was the first time I wore contacts in years.
image

I work up at 9:20am to one messy ass kitchen. (E:flacidness), (e:hodown) and I cleaned till like 11:30. Then we left for the farmer's market. The best part was when TK first woke up he was thirsty and poured a glass of cider to chug. Unfortunately, it was the cider that Robert and James brought which was alcoholic.

I had no idea there was hard cider I would have liked to try that. There was all kinds of food that I didn't eat, I just wasn't hungry for some reason. I hope that all that straw got picked up some how. Thanks for hosting the party!!!!
libertad - 11/02/08 08:13
I asked mike if we could come back and clean up and he said no. I like cleaning up after parties for some reason. Wish I could have seen TK's face when he drank that cider...hehe
tinypliny - 11/02/08 00:08
I feel like I should have stayed behind and helped clean up. I think that's my plan for next time. Or I should just drop by in the morning and help with the scrubbing and vaccuming. It really feels awful now, that I left without even asking. This is a seriously rude (bordering on vindictive) thing to do back home. I am sorry! :(
tinypliny - 11/02/08 00:04
Did you throw out everything that is pictured?

Costume Time
Category: holiday
I had a hard time resisting being (e:lilho)'s boil. I ended up being a farmer again. This time with a devil pitch fork and some mask. (e:hodown) is her girl crush form TV.

tinypliny - 11/01/08 10:38
Haha, very cool. You should have stuck with the mask and stabbed everyone intentionally. ;-)

And (e:hodown) looked like the Joan character so much! Perfect costume.

The creepiest classified ever
Category: www
I was perousing through as I find it endlessly entertaining to read about other people sex lives. I have a feeling the Buffalo ones are tame compared to those in SF or NYC. This is definitely the most creeptastic one I have ever read. It reads like the beginning of a serial killer movie.

I am a middle-aged white man looking for a young(18-20yr old)white guy who wants to be my houseboi in sunny, warm, and wonderful,Tampabay,Florida! NO Snow, lots of sun and fun! You will have to get here on your own! I will provide room and board,No experience needed, will train the right guy. This is a long term relationship,im a dominant type of guy,a top,5'10",7"cut,heavy build, and I can be strict.I want you to do some light housekeeping, take care of my wants and needs,go places and do things with me,all at my expense! You won't need a salary,I will pay for everything! No other job allowed,No outside dating,No one in the house, and No going out with anyone! I like the quiet submissive type of guy,who does what he is told, and likes to serve others. If you are interested, send stats, photos, and contact info to me asap! this position won't last long, christmas is coming!no car wanted or needed, fly down or take the bus!
Tell me what you are into? this is a great location, beats WNY by a mile! CYA! IF THIS ISN'T FOR YOU,KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO YOURSELF! GET A LIFE! I'M NOT LOOKING FOR A CRITIC,IM LOOKING FOR A HOUSEBOI!

To me this reads as a serial killer looking to cut you off from all communication and rape you continuously. Especially creepy is the "no car wanted or needed, fly down or take the bus!" That just screams, there will be no trace that you ever came here, and you are never leaving.

I started searching for words from the ad and found some other links: He has either been on the search for a while or he wore the old ones out.

He also didn't post it on Tampa craigslist about it which sounds like he wants a person who has no local connections. Creepy.
james - 10/31/08 19:20
I have similar rules for our houseboy, Hans.
zobar - 10/31/08 14:01
Creepy. And pronouncing 'boi' as 'bwah' doesn't make it any better.

Boy, Guy, Man - Girl, Gal?, Woman
Category: english
I never call a male a boy, but sometime I call a female a girl. I think that seems wrong but often the reason is that I don't want to say woman as it sounds formal and kind of oldish. Just like I almost never refer to a male as a man.

I never say, "I talked to this man at work the other day." I would instead say, "I talked to this guy at work." Somehow, it doesn't even seem to matter what age the male was, I almost never say man. (e:hodown) says she says dude for where I say guy.

The problem is that Gal - what I think is the female equivalent of Guy - seems so colloquial and not very popular, not to mention it kind of comes off as having a sexist tone, even when unintended - like broad. Maybe its because of the generation that would typically use it. "I talked to this girl," sounds demeaning. "I talked to this woman," sounds cold and unfriendly to me.

And Then There Is You Guys
What's worse is that I often find myself saying "you guys" when referring to a group of woman. Approach by a group of female friends: "Oh, I haven't seen you guys in so long." You gals sounds sound ridiculous and y'all is way to southern colloquial. I could always use the more Buffalo based expression. "I have seen yous? in so long" I don't even know how to spelled it, it is pronounced like "use."

So what should I say? I think I might just never refer to females with pronouns again to avoid the embarrassment. But then thats kind of weird too. It almost like the language makes it difficult to refer to females

Gosh just try and look up all these terms on google images and it give you an idea about their usage.
tinypliny - 11/01/08 10:30
Call a spade a spade. To me, if its a woman, its a woman or a lady. If it's someone who I think is definitely in thier teenage years or younger, it's a girl. If its a man, it's a man. I used to say bloke a lot but thankfully it has worn off slowly. I think I hesistate to use guys because a lot of times it sounds out of context.
gardenmama - 11/01/08 02:06
I have a friend who refers to women as "chicks" but generally only when there are a group of women. It's kind of an older term, and some people find it offensive, but somehow it doesn't feel that way when he says it. I don't know, maybe it's something in his tone.

There used to be all kinds of terms: birds, babes, dolls, etc. but none of them seemed to last the way guys has. My vote is ladies over women. And I can't stand "yous" or "yous guys" - but I grew up in a house with an English professor for a mother - we would have been whacked in the head for using either of those.
metalpeter - 10/31/08 19:31
Guys as been turned into the plural for a group of people if it it is women. Gals doesn't sound right and the other problem with gal is that when said it sounds like the name Gail. Ya'll is fine yes it is southern but it is southern that everyone knows. Why not use the term ladies. Yes I know it is kinda not correct because it doesn't mean females it means a certain type of female just like using the term gentlemen isn't really correct either. I say stay with the southern use of Madame or mam and mister but how to say hi to a group of ladies or of men and women I'm not really sure.
heidi - 10/31/08 19:03
I use y'all a lot, but I have the excuse of living in Maryland for nine years. I definitely prefer and use "woman" or "women" in any professional/work/school context.
libertad - 10/31/08 18:33
I prefer to refer to girls as peaches.
theecarey - 10/31/08 11:43
I rarely say, "men" or "woman". I simply dont like the sound of it. It sounds so 'mature' and I feel so immature still, ha. On the other hand, I like to sometimes use "gentleman" and "ladies". A little bit quirky.

Like you, mostly it is the use of "guys", that I prefer. Never "gals" though. I often generalize "guys" to include females. It is more neutral sounding to me than gender specific when used as "hey guys whats up". But obviously gender specific if i hear/say, "I talked to this guy.."

When I use the word "boys", it is slighted to be demeaning or cutesy. I do however, often use and hear "girls" and I don't think it sounds demeaning or cutesy. It is more equivalent to the "guy" word than using "gal", I think.
So "guy/girl" it is!
jenks - 10/31/08 11:38
yeah I agree, there's a hole in the language there. We need a female version of "guy". I think I say girl... like "I was talking to this girl at work..." or maybe woman if they're older/more senior. But I will call a group of girls 'you guys' all the time. I have no problem with that.
jim - 10/31/08 11:32
Or Baltimorian "yos", as in: "Haven't seen yos in a while."

"Yos" and "y'all" both sound southern and informal of course. And we can't forget Drew's Appalachian "yinz" or the (common in Buffalo) "yous", completing our tour of common second person plural gender neutral pronouns in American sub-dialects.

I tend to use "y'all" sometimes.
drew - 10/31/08 11:32
yinz? It works in Pittsburgh.
jim - 10/31/08 11:25
y'all, maybe
jason - 10/31/08 11:08
I usually say "you girls" which hasn't earned me a kick to the crotch yet.
mike - 10/31/08 11:01
i generally refer to guys my age or younger as kid. which i guess is weird. And i think whatever age I am will be the cut off in my head. I will say like I saw this kid today but really it could be a 25 year old but i never use kid when referring to females. Weird.
