Bluetooth DUN
Bluetooth DUN would not work for some reason. I mean I could take the damn sim out of the windows mobile tilt, stick it in the nokia 7900 an tether with no problem but not with the tilt. The settings I used for that were.
Phone number: *99#
UserName: ISP@CINGULARGRPS.COM
Pass: CINGULAR1
access point: wap.cingular

Unfortunately, even if it did work bluetooth DUN is so freakin slow that it is dialup style unbearable.
Bluetooth Pan
Amazingly, the mac OS X leopard and windows mobile 6 can network with bluetooth DUN which is incredibly fast Then I realized on the mac you could also use bluetooth pan. I never tried that before. It is way easier than bluetooth DUN and basically allows your bluetooth phone to share its network instead of dialing out through bluetooth as with DUN. It is so fast and multiple devices can access it at once. I was able to get 1300kbps dl and 150kpbs up.

To get the tilt to work with the Tilt and leopard you will need to use two system preference panes on the mac - network and bluetooth and one program on the tilt called internet sharing.

First, open internet sharing in the programs menu on the Tilt. If it is not there, just search for the internet sharing app on windows mobile on google and it will tell you how to find/enable it. One you got it running on the windows mobile, select bluetooth pan from the top drop down and media net form the bottom one, then hit connect.

Using the mac add your tilt as a paired bluetooth device. First, in your bluetooth system preference panel by clicking the + button at the bottom right and going though the bluetooth wizard. You will need to pair the devices using the wizard. While you are in there, check the "show bluetooth status in menu bar" checkbox so that you get the easy access bluetooth menu in your menu bar.

Choose the type any device when filling out the wizard

Then open you network system preference panel and select the plus in the lower left. A box will pop up, choose bluetooth pan and name it tilt or whatever you want. Then hit create and exit out of your network control panel.

Last in the bluetooth drop down that you enabled in you status bar at the top of the finder, select the tilt and then click connect to network. You should be all connected at that point.

Happy tethering.
Is there a way to use my tilt as a modem without doing it via blue tooth (like having them connected with a USB)? Cause everytime I connect with bluetooth, the connection is lost and my mac says no blue tooth available.
Paul - I'm wondering if you know if the Nokia 7900 supports the bluetooth PAN profile and A2DP? I just ordered that phone - your thoughts are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
I always read your posts Paul. I love seeing what you ate... and when you rant about something, i like to count the typos. These techy posts, well, i often wonder if they are in english.
