Paul, the formaldehyde truffle pig
Category: health
I have a big nose with extraordinary smell capability. Generally, I think I can smell better than most people Like if a smell is in the area, I can smell it usually 2-3 minutes before everyone else and no one believes me till they smell whatever the scent is. I was telling (e:enknot) the other day that if I ever lost my job I bet I could be trained as a rug sniffing human at the airport, lol.

I am especially sensitive to formaldehyde I can smell it in really small concentrations and it makes me nuts. Same with various plastic smells, seem like softer plastics and cheaper plastic smell worse to me. Anyways, I think formaldehyde is the worst smell. Ever since dissecting my first of three fetal pigs in Biology class I became instantly familiar with the pungent odor that is formaldehyde. They have definitely used it in the Life Sciences building at work because I can always detect it there. Even in the little food shop. In fact I refuse to go there. Lots of new buildings smell like it and plywood is the worst.

Formaldehyde Facts

Formaldehyde is a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling gas that is used to manufacture building materials and produce many household products

Formaldehyde sources in the home include pressed wood products, cigarette smoke, and fuel-burning appliances

When exposed to formaldehyde, some individuals may experience various short-term health effects

Formaldehyde has been classified as a human carcinogen (cancer-causing substance) by the International Agency for Research on Cancer and as a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

esearch studies of workers exposed to formaldehyde have suggested an association between formaldehyde exposure and cancers of the nasalnasopharynx, and brain, and possibly leukemia sinuses,

I may hit you up on that later but right now I just eliminated all sources of the smell that bother me. The bed is gone and I don't work in that building that smells.
dragonlady7 - 02/21/08 09:57
I got super-sensitive to smells for like a day after a bout of either stomach flu or food poisoning (I never figured out which). It was awful!
Everyone thought I was pregnant!

I think I offered this before but I'm serious, if you want an air purifier that takes out formaldehyde I can get you one cheap. Apparently the less you're exposed to it, the more you can then tolerate.
mrdeadlier - 02/17/08 18:05
I am on the exact opposite end of the spectrum. My wife will say "What is that smell?" And my reply is often something like "Huh?"

I consider it a gift. We can be out somewhere and she will be perturbed about something she smells and I'm completely oblivious.

The Dinner Party Last Night
Category: party
Was pretty freakin crazy. We set up a mini theatre in our dining room and watched nature videos (Planet Earth with David Attenboro in bluray) and then played wii followed by playstation games. I actually got into Heavenly Sword for once. The graphics are great but I am not usually into the killing games.

There was also a dance party and a lot of kitchen craziness. I have enough inappropriate pics of (e:lilho) to start my very own drunken girl site, lol.

It was nice to see everyone. (e:lilho), (e:terry), (e:matthew), (e:mike), (e:jim), (e:james), (e:jason), (e:joshua), (e:vincent), (e:incrutiable), (e:carolinian), (e:flacidness), (e:enknot), (e:zobar), (e:dragonlady7), (e:lauren), (e:fellyconnelly), (e:tina)

I don't have any appropriate pictures. Did anyone take pictures?
drew - 02/17/08 20:01
Yeah, where are the pictures...we couldn't go...too tired from skiing!
fellyconnelly - 02/17/08 12:49
i was just thinking this morning about how there didn't appear to be a camera present last night! other than the camera phones that were whipped out for (e:lilho)'s show.
metalpeter - 02/17/08 12:45
Well then that would make there only be two sites that I would pay for instead of the one oh no wait there is one other so that would make it go from 2 to 3. Sounds like I missed a great time glad everyone had fun.

Back to Patrick O'neil Chiropractic
Category: health
I went back to the chiropractor today because my neck was so messed up from computing with a 3rd monitor and then plumbing a drain in a cold draft. I am always amazed at our fast a chiropractic appointment is.

I seriously could only turn my head about 25 degrees either way the last few days - which I have to say is a serious driving danger. I never realized how much I turn my head until, I couldn't. Same with walking and trying to cross the street. It is way dangerous to turn your whole body because you can't do it very quick.

I already have a little more range but this time I think it my neck injruy was worse. I still can't really turn to the left very far. He said I would be in pain tonight and maybe tomorrow and to call him if it gets worse tomorrow and to schedule a follow up appointment on Monday. He also said I should relax, drink lots of fluids and look straight ahead for the rest of the evening. I really want to go to the massage therapist now. I wish I could go now. Are their 24 hours massage places or is that sketchy and really a different line of work once it is 24 hours.

Run white boy run
I was almost late for the Chiropractor this evening because I stayed at work talking to my teammates about some computer situation we were having. So I started to run home down Washington in order to get the car and a gaggle of ghetto trash coming out of the subway yelling run whitey, run or something and then they were all laughing and yelling more. Maybe that is how they take out their aggression about the unfairness built into our society. At least it wasn't with guns. Besides, I was secretly laughing on the inside thinking about their lives - tragic. I guess that makes me a bad person - whatever. Sometimes I think I should just buy one of those shooting tazers from out of state.

Dinner at sahara grill
Category: food
We went to sahara grill for valentines dinner. The waitress rfushed us at 9PM although they closed at 10PM and were still seating people. It was freezing, like I never took my scarf off. The menu was exactly the same as before they closed. The chicken lavash (that I got because I felt too rushed to get dinner) was really tasty. My verdict is that I would go there again, but for lunch.

(e:terry) really seems to hate valentines day which always makes it so pleasant. I guess I can't complain too much as we have plenty of romantic days not on valentine's day.

So I was thinking that I probably have had 24/7 internet access wherever I go since about 2003, except for maybe a week of remote camping. I wonder what would happen to me if it went away?

I want to shout out to my nokia n810 not phone for having an innovative keyboard that requires no shift press to type a apostrophe.
metalpeter - 02/15/08 17:52
I don't know if I and Terry have dislike for the holiday for the same reasons or not. But I think that even if you have issues with it one can still go out and enjoy themselves on that day. In that picture Matt looks like he would rather be anyplace but there, hope that wasn't how it was and hope the 3 of you had a good day.
jenks - 02/15/08 10:51
i have to say i'm really not impressed with sahara grill. I'll stick with falafel bar. Every time I go it's rushed, and last time they fucked up my order, and then it was cold, etc etc.
jim - 02/14/08 22:36
Wow we probably walked right by there while you were eating :)
