I just found out that several of the people that I work with are Jehovah's Witnesses. Which is fine really, as long as work remains secular. I don't want to discuss my past experiences with JW's. I might get edgy. I wouldn't be concerned, except my new manager, who I am attempting to not dislike passionately, was trying to get into a whole convo with one of the JW coworkers. The manager is a 'christian' but she seems like the type to use that word as a title rather than to actually subscribe to belief. or maybe I say that because i am already convinced that she is completely fake in everything that she does. eh... i'm a jerk, huh?
Saturday is my gramma's 80th birthday party. It looks as though all 10 of her kids will be there, but I could be wrong about that. I know that all of my siblings will be there, which will be great for a group shot. It is going to be a huge and ridiculous party.
And I am supposed to make a meatloaf. I've never made a meatloaf before. Hmm this should be interesting.
Also we watched the justin timberlake's HBO special last night. That guy is amazing. Who else could go from Mickey Mouse club to Boyband to pop star to hip hop/anything he wants star?
and who can dance so casually? he is my hero.
sunday we go to darien lake. until we find out that its going to rain or something.

If mothers ruled the world...Category: randomo
we flicked past the Emmy's a few minutes ago and Sally Fields was receiving an award that was going on forever.
She started going on about the war and suddenly the cameras left her and went to a silent longshot for about 5 seconds and went back to her finishing and the people clapping.
Why exactly, Fox, would you chose to not hear Ms Fields speak about her views on the war?

Ugh, I wish celebrities would use their craft to voice their political views rather than corny venues like awards shows.
Harold was so brave to voice his disapproval of the war in Iraq at the Susquwasana county fair cherry pie eating contest. Just as the crust was chewed up and crumbled down his shirt, so too are our young men and women being eaten up by this war.
Darn it! I want anti-war episodes of Murder She Wrote!

I think networks, in recent years, are trying to trend away from the lame, overly political elements of the award shows. They're desperate for viewers. They don't want to give people more reasons to not watch the show.
Personally, I thought the Emmys were quite good this year. I especially liked the Jersey Boys.

Lauren and I are watching 'double down' on the wned learning channel. it really is crack for the mind. the kids are all awkward and sometimes we actually know the answers.
the production quality is, of course, horrid. but that just makes it more interesting.
oh what a wonderful sunday night.
last night was even more exciting. a couple of rum and cokes and a hearty game of scrabble.
and if i think about me just a few years ago... i would have never thought i would be this wonderfully lame.
and i would never assume that i would be this happy about it!

amy's placeCategory: good eats
Okay I haven't been to too many places so I couldn't really write a 'review' type post, but here we go!
Amy's Place
Main street, right across from the UB south campus.
Okay so this is not exactly fine dining here, but I saw that it definetely won some awards by Artvoice or Best of Buffalo or something.
I went there first with my friend Kat and her lady friend Colleen - who used to live in buffalo, last weekend. The food was great for my hangover. I had a simple breakfast of eggs over easy, homefries, bacon and toast. The homefries were spicy and wonderful. The bacon was good and cruncy and the eggs were just runny enough to be sopped up by my delicious whole wheat toast.
but again - i was hungover so it was difficult for me to formulate an accurate review.
Lauren and I went back today and now i have a better idea of the place.
ATMOSPHERE: Its a wonderful dive. The type of place where the walls are plaster, the people are eclectic, and homemade art adorns the wall. There is even a strip of cork above each booth for you to hang your own drawings that you can make on your paper placemat while you wait for your food to arrive. This is your typical diner style with a food counter, tables and booths all stuffed into a small space.
THE PEOPLE: This would be the type of place that you wouldn't want to upset your waiter/tress. A sign on the wall says: Be Nice or Leave! and the stories that circulate about rude patrons being ordered out are abound. The wait staff is an amazing mix of people, piercings, shaved heads and tattoos abound. They all cooperate with eachother to bring you a constant supply of coffee, and attention. It will definetely bring you back to your college days, though don't be suprised when college students aren't all you see here. The range of people that seem to flock here make it all the greater.
THE FOOD: Lebanese American. Excellant Middle Eastern American food here! They have plenty of vegetarian options, and the hummus is plentiful! There is plenty of people who insist that they make the best omlettes in town, though I couldn't say as I haven't had it myself. There is a section in the back of the menu that is full of the staff's concoctions. This is where I ordered from. Dan kabobs! though there was no kabobs happenin, It was basically chicken fingers and french fries on a hummus slathered flatbread that was then rolled up wrap style. Pretty basic, but oh so delicious!
such simplicity is what i live for! For the vegitarian I do hear that there are several varieties of veggie burger to choose from - including lentil walnut.
THE PRICE: lets just say that if you hit Amy's Place before 9 am you can get breakfast for 99cents. Eggs, Toast and homefries. After nine it is two dolalrs. need i say more?
okay that was my review.

Staff concoctions! What a brilliant idea. Without ever trying that place I would bet its probably the best stuff on the menu.

The ironic thing that given the ethic bent of the place is that they make the best bacon cheeseburger ever.

Well, I'm happy you reviewed it felly! I've seen it before and it has piqued my curiousity but I haven't tried it yet, so now I'm way excited about giving it a try some morning.
If we go, it will be interesting to see if Drew picks sleep or the good deal .99 cent breakfast, cause he loves both A LOT.

nope! no birthdays or holidays! but the one girl i work with now goes overboard as she grew up JW and when she turned 18 she went trick or treating and already has halloween decorations up....
also they don't do blood transfusions.
I could be wrong but I don't think JW types celebrate birthdays or holidays as well. Sounds like a barrel of laughs!
My mother is very Roman Catholic. She also works from home. This means that she is always the one to answer the door when the JW's knock. She told me this story where these two JW's show up and try to work their magic on her. But she says "You know, in your religion there is only enough room in heaven for x-number of people. Well, in the Catholic church there is room for EVERYONE in heaven." At which point my mom describes the look in one of the girls faces as "her eyes widened, and you can see a glimmer of hope in her!"
I like to think that she just had no logical counter-argument in a conversation devoid of logic.
And Justin Timberlake... I have to admit, the guy has something goin' on (namely good producers)
