  • I had a dream I slapped someone in the face in the middle of a party. I didn't realize just how satisfying this drama move could be.

  • Enjoy the photos. I really wish you could be here to experience them live.

not to be a party pooper, but I had to look it up. :::link:::

Salvia officinalis - Common sage
Salvia divinorum - Diviner's sage

Good stuff either way...

tinypliny - 08/31/07 15:04
Our comments crossed there. I see. I SEE!
tinypliny - 08/31/07 15:03
yeap, same question as jenks- I thought the salvia was generically different from the regular green grocer herb.

@jbeatty - Thanks! I might take you up on that!
ladycroft - 08/31/07 15:02
one in the same. salvia divinorum is the scientific name. and boy it tastes just like it smells (i've never had the tea). it brings fond memories of running on a carrousell while chasing paul and screaming that carey looked scary in a big yellow hat! if that doesn't make sense look for one of my posts talking about sage or salvia.
jenks - 08/31/07 14:44
is regular old grocery store sage the same as salvia?!
drew - 08/31/07 14:34
wow. And you get it at the grocer?
ladycroft - 08/31/07 14:32
sage, or salvia divinorum, is a powerful psychoactive herb. it can produce altered states as mild as uncontrollable laughter or as extreme as full halucinations or planes of being. Historically its use is related to religious meditation.
jbeatty - 08/31/07 13:54
(e:tinypliny) you can borrow my Lebanese cookbook if you would like some ideas.
tinypliny - 08/31/07 10:19
What are those - pizzas? What are the toppings? Look pretty interesting! I am trying to learn Lebanese veggie recipes. I think they have some unque tasting food over there.

And why is the Sage thing so special? What do you use it for?
tinypliny - 08/31/07 10:16
I wish I had that kind of dream more often. I am always the person who is getting slapped! :/ But hey, I always get to eat food in my dreams.

I <3 <3 LOVE <3 <3 YOUR PICTURES!!

metalpeter - 08/30/07 17:22
Great pictures and thanks for sharing them, those gondolas look pretty interesting. In terms of the dream depending on what happened and how the slap is given sometimes it can be just as good for the person getting the slap.
theecarey - 08/29/07 12:19
yes! Nice grocey you have there-well stocked with the essentials :D Electricity Street and Desert Sunset picture really get to me; beautiful. I'm getting this deja-vous feeling over the Gondola pic. weird.

PS according to the time of your post, I just missed you on here. I was still up and on after 4am. drats.

libertad - 08/29/07 09:03
Looks beautiful. Nice dream too, sounds fun.
jbeatty - 08/29/07 08:37
Wow! Those are some really cool pictures.

  • I'm getting a massage tomorrow.

  • I can't wait for above mentioned massage.

  • I can't wait because I'm in tremendous pain, as a result of my worn out mattress.

  • I inquired and they are going to buy me a new mattress :)

  • I'm watching Lola Rennt (Run Lola Run)

  • It makes me miss my fun coloured hair badly.

  • All this talk of hair lately makes me miss Lilho.

  • I'm going to buy plants at the plant souq this weekend.

  • I'm going to buy paint and supplies to start painting my apartment as well.

  • I think I'm going to paint the following quote on one of my walls: "Highly developed spirits often encounter resistance from mediocre minds" - Albert Einstein.

  • I think Theecarey will understand what I mean with that quote.
lilho - 08/29/07 11:23
I MISS YOU TOOO!
theecarey - 08/22/07 19:17

Just as I read that quote in your journal, I was, "yes! yes! yes!".. and then I read the next line... Indeed I do--on many levels :)

..and I think it will make for a perfect segue on an article I am writing.

PS I miss your bright pink hair!
metalpeter - 08/22/07 18:46
I'm not even going to pretend to get that "" maybe if I thought about it for some time I would but my mind isn't there right now. I will also admit that I do miss your "Fun Colour" hair. I know it seems weird that I would miss a hair colour of yours on you. Run Lola Run sounds like i have seen it but don't remember any of it but I think I liked it.
carolinian - 08/22/07 18:45
You're wearing out mattresses already? Qatar must be a lot more fun than I had imagined ;)
mrmike - 08/22/07 18:06
Me, too but I'm a tad narcisistic that way
drew - 08/22/07 17:15
I know it makes me sound egotistical, but I totally get that quote.

long locks
Category: hair
I live with my hair. It clings to my scalp with relentless force. I twirl my fingers through it every single day, I tie it up off my hot neck every single day, I SEE it every single day. However, it still managed to surprise me when I saw my profile. My hair is getting long! Remember when you first met me?

2 years and about 25 haircuts later.....

image
ladycroft - 08/22/07 16:11
Well...Lilho did all but 1 of those haircuts in the last 2 years. Sadly, she moved to Arizona so I cannot refer you. Well, unless she wants to do it while she's visiting B-lo. Ask her :)

The 1 cut not done by her was done by Leetee! She may be willing to chop your tresses. Ask her :)
tinypliny - 08/22/07 04:11
Pertinent questions: How are haircutters in Doha?

And could you recommend anyone here in Buffalo? I am looking for a friendly and not necessarily perfect (you just cannot go "wrong" with hair which is already way too wrong to start with, hehe) inexpensive haircutter (notice, how I don't say hair-stylist; yep, my hair is past styling). So, do you know of anyone?

I took this morning's quiet street time as an opportunity to practice driving. Friday is the Muslim holy day so everyone is at mosque. It's usually when you see all the expats buying groceries so as to avoid the mobs. I'm proud to say I only got a 'little' lost for a 'little' while. I should probably give myself more credit that than sounds like. I mean it is difficult to navigate streets (with no names) that don't exactly match the maps available to you.

My journey included locating my aunt and uncle's villa (successfully) and then making my way to the Villagio Mall to get some groceries. One day I'll take pics inside the mall but it's hard with so many people around. The ceiling is painted to look like a soft blue sky dotted with clouds. They also have a pool river that you can take gondola rides in, which is weird but fun.

tinypliny - 08/22/07 04:16
OOh, are those alien thingies lights for the road??
tinypliny - 08/22/07 04:15
I have seen one of those sky-painted ceilings! Metalpeter, if you ever plan a trip to hedonistic Vegas, they have a a faux-sky ceiling in one of those zillion theme-based hotel malls they have there. It's pretty cool.
metalpeter - 08/19/07 12:41
Nice pictures. That one shot of the road does look like it was made for a plane or something to land on the way the lights are positioned. A gondola ride in there mall sounds interesting. The sky ceiling is a cool idea I have heard of that someplace else but I don't think I have ever seen before. Thanks for posting the pictures.
lizabeth - 08/18/07 12:30
Wow, that is what date trees look like?? We have those here in South Fl., and I always wondered what the hell they were.

Qoo pix!

fresh air and automobiles
Category: potpourri
Maintenance came and scrubbed down my AC units and replaced the filters. A-men! It was yucky and smelled like moth balls. Every time I walked in my door I felt like I was entering some little old lady's house. I put air fresheners everywhere but they were no match for the stink. While I was talking to the team leader, he informed me part of the reason some of them start to smell bad is because AC units are connected to the toilet lines. Mmmmmm. :)

Supposedly there are points during the year when you can turn off the AC and breathe fresh air. I'm excited about that! I go through so much lotion here. Care package ideas people: send Body Shop Body Butter!!!

I'm still waiting for the official go ahead with my mailing address but I will share it just as soon as it's confirmed. I'm in need of fan mail. There's nothing more comforting than getting snail mail, especially when you're eight million miles away from everything you know. Even if it shows up a year later, right (e:Ajay)? Ha-ha.

So, this afternoon I'll make a run to the store and buy some smellers to shove in my newly cleaned units. I do love the scent of spiced apples. It's all cozy and feels good on the olfactory senses.

I miss SPOT coffee. Starbucks is everywhere here, which is ok, but their caramel macchiato just doesn't taste the same. Care package ideas people: send SPOT coffee beans!

I miss you all. I hope to arrange a party for the next time I'm in Buffalo. That might not be until April 08....but it's never too soon to plan the greatest spectacle on earth! Ciao.
libertad - 08/16/07 09:49
it also makes sense that your room would smell like mothballs if the air is somehow connected to the bathrooms. urinal blocks are also made of the same thing as mothballs....mmmmmmmm mmmmmm good
libertad - 08/16/07 09:44
That must have been horrible. I'm also anti-mothball. They are so dangerous and it is amazing how much people still use them. Watch out what kind of smellers you buy too. they just might have the same chemicals as mothballs. I think essential oils (not plug ins) are safe and smell good, but I haven't used them.
check out this link :::link:::

and can you believe kids are huffing mothballs for fun? :::link:::
paul - 08/16/07 09:16
I hate the smell of moth balls, that must have driven you absolutely nuts.
