Yes'm officer ma'm
I had a customer just enter my store and chat it up with me. He asked me if I had ever thought about a career in corrections. He wasn't trying to sell me on anything, he just thought I should be a corrections officer. I wonder if I give off that vibe...

I used to be the head of security at this bar/club here in NP. I was badass and made a LOT of enemies. There were a lot of underage whiney little girls that hated my guts every thursday night when I denied them entry or kicked them out. Part of me really loved that job. I am such a nice, compliant person that to have a job where I HAD to be strict, mean, and controlling was sort of a stress releif. It was like all that secret inner aggression that I had lurking under the surface of my glassy and calm exterior was able to escape... I just hated the drunkards....

The funny thing is that a couple of the 'perks' that the guy had named was that I would get to carry a badge and a gun. Do I really want to carry a gun?
that is an interesting question to ask myself. because part of me is opposed to guns, and the other part of me would love to go to the shooting range and try it out. I don't think I would carry it around or anything...

Anyway... as intersting as it may sound, I don't think that being a corrections officer is the game for me... i do enjoy an occasional smoke if ya know what i mean.. ;)

the final countdown...
T minus two months till the big move...
HERE WE COME BUFFALO!!! are you ready for us?

or, more appropriately, are we ready for you?

not really... i need a job and i need an apartment.... its rather nervewracking to be so close to the move and yet so far from being ready... i have no idea what my life will be like in two months. All i know is that I'll be with my lady. I'm just going to go with it.
rock on.

anyone have a job or an apartment that you want to offer me?

prime time! wow that was a blast from the past... i've had some... er... interesting moments at that place!

yes i'll be sorry leave these beautiful mountains behind, but alas, we must move on right?

I'm not sure where we are moving to in buffalo - whereever is cheap.. my lady will be attending grad school at UB so i think we will try to stay near the north campus - but we may venture down to elmwood if we find something perfect!

craiglist does, indeed, rule... i've been checking daily... perhaps hourly!?
james - 05/02/07 17:56
Oh, and I see you are moving from New Paltz.

I am from Putnam County origonaly and I have dated a few people in New Paltz. Once upon a time, I partied at club Prime Time before they closed.

Buffalo is a lot of fun. I just hope you don't miss the catskills.
james - 05/02/07 17:54
www.buffalo.craigslist.com is your new best friend.

Job listings? You got it.

Apartments? Up the wazzo.

And while it is on topic, is wazzo another name for anus?

No, that is off topic.

Welcome to Buffalo. It is a grand ol' burg.
mastermindkg - 05/02/07 17:05
Do you know what area you'll be in, or are you still not sure?
fellyconnelly - 05/02/07 13:22
foraging is the way of life.... sounds perfect!
joshua - 05/02/07 13:20
I think you'll be ready for us - we are a simple people that rely on foraging and trading with other like-minded tribes to survive.

Ok, I'm only kidding... but welcome anyway!

i don't think i know how to use this website... but at any rate - thanks for all the replies that i didn't see that i had till now...

move date is scheduled for july 1 or so - everything is quite crazy for now - i still don't have a job OR apartment!
my girlfriend is attending UB... so here we come... we are moving from New Paltz, NY. I guess that since I'm moving from such a liberal town to elsewhere i'm wondering if i'm going to be in for a shock with buffalo... i'm excited for it yet still cautious... i guess time will tell, eh?
uncutsaniflush - 02/24/07 11:01
welcome.

It's hard to say if you would like Buffalo without knowing what you like.

Buffalo is a city with character. It reminds me of an aging movie star down on her luck hoping to make a comeback.

There's lots of good restaurants in the Buffalo area. And, if (e:peeps) are to be believed, there are plenty of opportunities for partying.

Buffalo has a very good art museum and a symphony orchestra. It also has a couple of professional sport teams.

One day, my wife, (e:leetee) and I were driving through Buffalo on the way to Hamilton, ON (which incidentially is the Buffalo of Ontario) and she said "ha ha ha we could always move to Buffalo" in a sarcastic way. And much to her surprise and mine, we moved here a couple of years later after doing lots of research.

We really like living in Buffalo but it's not a city for everyone. But then, no city is.
joshua - 02/23/07 20:27
What kind of things are you into?
leetee - 02/23/07 19:05
I hope you like it! It would totally suck to move to a new city and find out you think it blows. I reckon it depends on your standards.

Where you moving from?

If you don't mind a bit of cold.. and i don't mean (e:lilho)'s attitude towards her hometown, then i think you will do just fine.

Welcome to (e:strip)!
metalpeter - 02/23/07 18:59
I think like a lot of cities there will be things that (based on your personality and political outlook) you will like and dislike about Buffalo. Welcome to the site I hope you enjoy it and that you interact with other (e:peeps) in a positive way.
