Whoever sent this to imk2
Category: fuck off

tried joining this site and it has more bugs than my garden ... keeps saying "invalid user" u prolly wont get this as the site is weak

Go fuck yourself. Don't bother joining the site, in fact do me a favor a stab yourself to death (thank you pan's labyrinth for you inspirational violence.)

I have spent years work on the site as a purely non-profit side project. It generally works amazingly considering the amount of stuff it does and the fact that there is not one employee who is paid to run it. It runs on mac, windows, and linux, plus on cell phone both in wap and xhtml flavor.

I have spent thousands of hours dealing with the server and the people on the site, their emotional problems, the server problems, the nasty swarms of attack bots, the server hackers, arranging its hosting, progamming new features and helping people who don't know how to use computers very well. You have no idea how much behind the scene work goes on, beyond the programming and server upkeep. I am the server tech, the customer service team, the networking guy, the designer, the database admin, the public relations team. I also work 40-50 hours a week at my real job.

Please give me the address of the site you run so I can have ample opportunity to rip your project the fuck apart.

Fuck you,
Paul Visco

This was magnificent. Bravo!

No project is perfect by any means, but this person didn't have to be so dull about things.

That eye-talian fire makes me smile... I miss Buffalo...
deeglam - 01/27/07 22:32
Paul- the work you do for this site is not unappreciated! You do a wonderful job and if anyone wants to say shit about it, then fuck 'em. Less shit you have to deal with, right??? Cheers to you!
paul - 01/27/07 20:12
So I went ahead and signed up for the site using my gmail address and it worked no problem.
paul - 01/27/07 20:03
Hi Paul - "You could have asked me or anyone else for help in joining the site" ... I did .. Imk2
and I got "go fuck yourself"

----
You did not ask for help. You simply criticized the site when I was very tired from dealing with a server attack. I guess I could have been nicer but you could have too.
paul - 01/27/07 20:00
"Hi again Paul
Didn't see an admin contact, my mistake.
I simply tried any thing that worked to contact something/one. Its fine, feel free to curse at me anytime due to my inabiltiy to overcome technical issues; again my mistake. Good luck with the site."

Once again, I don't really care. You see you did not ask her for help. You specifically said, "This site has more bugs than my garden .. it is weak." An appropriate message would have said ..
Hi, my name is blah and I am having trouble signing up for the site. I am not sure what is wrong, but maybe there is a bug with the site preventing me from signing up. My contact information is ...

Had you done that I would have helped you gladly. In fact I generally am very helpful.
paul - 01/27/07 18:53
"hello paul
u seem a bit overly emotional ... I've actually viewed the site a hundered times over the past few months ...with mixed results. It was down late nite, came back, and I thought I would join today. After 30 minutes of no luck I got frustrated. The "go fuck yourself" message linked to my unmasked ip was a surpise, but if thats how the site operates I guess its my mistake for wanting to get involved. cheers!"

I am so glad you made that decision. I could care less if you or anyone else joins the site. You could have asked me or anyone else for help in joining the site, or reported the bug to the site admin - myself - instead of messaging imk2. I spent the evening and early morning dealing with an attack on the server. It is rarely down. In fact in the last four years it has been down less than two days.

Taking an eternity
Category: mac
I was trying to unrar a set of files on the mac and the progress bar said it would take 2023406814 hours to finish. I don't think anything ever said it would take that long.

test
twisted - 01/26/07 01:56
That's just a quarter of eternity in Mac time, haha!

Seriously, that is one of the craziest progress messages I've ever seen. And I've seen some crazy ones.

p.s. - your userpic looks way more serious since you went back to a mac.

Uranium For Sale
I was reading about some enriched uranium that was smuggled by a fish and sausage trader out of russia and into georgia (the country) Apparently, it was 90% enriched and enough to build a nuclear bomb. 100g goes for about $1 million dollars.

I never really though about what uranium looks like. I realized that it was mined and that it had to be enriched but I never really considered what the susbtsance would be like in quantity enough to make a nuclear bomb. I somehow thought it would be fancier or liek in rods.

Here it is, simply in plastic bags, The smuggler had it under his jacket. I bet he gets a nasty case of cancer.

Mice Are Making Me Angry
Category: housing
We have this mice problem in the house. I think part of it is from the church as I see them outside near it when it is warm out. Luckily they are little house mice and not big rats. I want to kill them more than anything. I wish I could just step on them all but it is too complicated. The real issue is they are ruining everything. Last night I had to throw out another drawer full of stuff. They ate the zip lock bags and other plastic items which is weird. Maybe nesting material.

The most important step is removing food from lying around but my roommates seem to have real trouble with that, For a while we had traps and caught a lot of them. But then we had to give the humane traps back. I am at the point where I hate them enough to step on them, so humane traps are not my utmost concern. I feel like they are invading my space now. They are even bold enough to come out during light hours. I would use poison but I am afraid that it will end up somehow killing the squirrels. In fact I am sure about it.

So I guess we will have to try the traps again. I just wish everyone would remember to not leave food out. Last night after talking about this a lot, there were crackers smashed on the floor, I found this because the mouse was trying to run out and drag them under.

Here is all the crap I found around the house the other night when i got home from work at around midnight. And it is like this every freakin' day.

On a sadder note, the baby sugar glider died. The mother is a crack whore with no parenting skills. She pretty much just threw the baby out of the nest onto the floor.

just step on them. ugh i am pretty sure I hate any animal that can be stepped on
paul - 01/25/07 22:27
I used to be much messier. I admit at the 444 I was particularly messy but since the mouse problem I have made a concerted effort to not leave food around.
brit - 01/25/07 20:15
on behalf of the roomates and as the actual goblin that clears up the plates that (e:paul) leaves lying around in the living room, the sink the stove top etc and forgets about then assumes he never used in the first place, I would ask you not to encourage his delusions, the only reason he gets away with it is because none of us can be arsed to take photos of his constant mess!
jenks - 01/25/07 19:17
funny paul, I was JUST wondering about the babies (baby? what happened to the other one?) b/c a guy at work as sugar gliders and we were talking about them today.

I agree with peter- may be time to call in a pro. Usually the mice you SEE are just the tip of the iceberg.
metalpeter - 01/25/07 18:07
It is to bad you are allergic to cats cause they might be able to solve the mice problem, however they might also go after the sugar gliders. I think the posion might be just as bad as the cat. I don't know how you find this out but I think you need to find where they get in. If you can somehow close that up then if you catch or kill them all then you won't have anymore. You may want to talk to a good extremanator and find out if there is anything that would get rid of them but not effect you guys or any of your pets.
uncutsaniflush - 01/25/07 17:42
Golly, your roommates are running a very nice restaurant for the mice. How sweet of them. <g>

Good luck with getting rid of the mice.
leetee - 01/25/07 17:41
Awe, so sorry to hear about the baby squirrel!! Poor thing... i guess all moms are not created equal in the animal world, too, damnit.

Mice.. yeah, we have a bold one, or family that invades in the early part of the season. One time, i was on the sofa, and it came up and over the back of it. Scared me... i must have screamed like a little girl.

Luckily, i am a bit of a neat freak, so there are rarely any crumbs and the rodents move on to somewhere else... we think.

Although, (e:Uncutsaniflush) said he saw a rat in our yard...

Good luck with the mice.

Yo, roomies, clean up! :O)
vycious - 01/25/07 17:32
i didnt realize they could be such a problem. ive had mice in a few apts. even rats. they never seemed to be such a pain, however. did you try talking to the church peoples about the problem?

Switch Back
Category: computers
I decided to take advantage of my brithday holiday today to just say no to windows. One of the most important things was that I could natively run IE to test web sites and that the new Flash Player 9 came out for linux the other day.

image

It was so satisfying to just delete the windows partition. Now my vaio is much more like its running OS X without the apple crap or hardware and it is so much faster than when it was running windows. Windows is usually fast for about the first three days and then it just starts going downhill from there. I wasn't in the mood to do YAWR (Yet Another Windowds Re-install) when I saw the Suse site that compared the features of the new Suse to Windows Vista.

I have to say I really like this Suse Enterprise Linux 10

I figured what the hell, the only thing that was holding me back before was running IE and cinema 4D. I am pretty much done with Cinema 4D and I can get IE to run.

This is probably the 10th time I installed linux on a proprietary laptop and this time it went great with no hitches right out of the proverbial box. This is the first time I ran Gnome desktop with Suse but it is their default window manager now so I decided to give it a try. The last time I had used it was with Fedora back when (e:ajay) helped me install it on this same laptop.
enknot - 01/24/07 07:48
I'm getting a table PC for like 5 beans... so I guess I'm going to have a PC lappy, and I think I'll try this SUSE-Q out for a spin...
ajay - 01/23/07 10:43
I see Windows days as numbered.

Microsoft is getting squeezed on both sides. On the server side, Windows just can't compete with Linux or FreeBSD.
On the client side, Apples are doing a phenomenal job.

I think, in the next 10 years or so, expect Microsoft to quietly drop the OS and move to a just being a software suite provider (Office, mainly).
imk2 - 01/22/07 18:58
i want some!
paul - 01/22/07 17:26
I have never seen anything like the desktop window effects for Suse 10+ The cube desktop is amzing, its has that thing that os x has with the window tiling and untiling and a million other beautiful and fast effects once you get xgl running. The window wobble is amazing. Make the windows feel like actual things you are handling.

Looks like opensuse 10.2 is the fedora of Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop.
uncutsaniflush - 01/22/07 16:53
Welcome back to the fold. I'm glad everything worked out of the box for you.

I should look into SuSE again since it seems to work so well for you. I think the last time I used it was 2001 or 2002.
