I really hope I get this for my birthday. At first I will use wifi until I am finally free of sprint. Then I will have to rejoin cingular. I am kind of sad to move to cingular because sprint is so fast but their customer service sucks and I actually think I end up paying more with them.
The other advantage of having a cingular connection is that it will enable all of my old devices to work again as you can switch sim cards. The htought of having a real mobile browser that renders liek safari make me so freakin' excited. It is like the web on my phone. Not the pocket IE crappy version of the web on my phone. This may actually revolution mobile internet. Not just because it is an apple browser, but because it will be hyped up so much.
The one thing I am not sure baout is if I am ready to give up my qwerty keyboard. I did this once before and i hated that withe the nokia 7710.
the real problem is that it is not for sale yet and has this warning on the apple site.:
This device has not been authorized as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission. This device is not, and may not be, offered for sale or lease, or sold or leased, until authorization is obtained.
[22:30] lwist: but I love that it doesn't need a stylus
[22:31] lwist: although the touch keyboard has a delay
[22:31] lwist: that might drive me crazy
[22:31] lwist: and because the whole screen is touch sensitive
[22:31] lwist: it has to have a prioximity sensor
[22:31] paulsidekick: wow ebay is so crazy now
[22:31] paulsidekick: :::link:::
[22:31] lwist: so you don't accidentally write 'fuck you' with your ear
[22:31] lwist: whoa!
[22:31] paulsidekick: someone woudl really buy an email addrss
[22:31] paulsidekick: for $50
[22:32] paulsidekick: what what kind of delay
[22:32] lwist: well
[22:32] paulsidekick: is it bad
[22:32] lwist: just a latency from when you press and it types
[22:32] paulsidekick: rememebr my nokia was touch screen keyboard only
[22:32] lwist: it's hard to say with a demo
Man, did no one even read my post? I have links and all that... ;) But yeah, it's not coming out til june. :( But basically they had to announce it now b/c they're applying for the FCC approval- which I guess makes the info public, and they wanted to be the ones to announce it in typical apple fanfare style, rather than have it leak out.
I wish it had a bigger HD. They were hyping this widescreen video ipod... I was holding off on replacing my 60gb that was stolen... and as much as I want this phone, it's more like a nano- can't replace my big ipod. Oh well. I have 6mo to decide if I'm willing to spend the money anyway. Guess I need a new ipod in the meantime, then.
Appletv on the other hand- lame. (and for me to criticize an apple product- wow!). My bro-in-law has been waiting for this thing to come out for months. But it ONLY plays stuff from itunes, as far as I can tell. And does anyone have enough video bought of itunes that they're willing to spend $300 to connect it to their tv? (when you can just connect your video ipod to the tv in the meantime?) If it would stream ANY video, that would be a different story. But I guess they want to support the itunes store... I'm sure someone will hack it though.
Wow, that is so lame. Why even demo a product that isn't going to be out for 6 months. Now this is freakin ridiculou. I want a wii and an iphone. I am totally willing to purchase either and yet there are none to be purchased. By the time the iphone comes out in june the is a good chance I will want something else and they will have missed their mark. Same with the wii. By the time one is available I might not even want one anymore.
The phone will allegedly be available in June.
Having been a Windows (or linux/unix) user all my life I have to admit that the new computers Apple haved released over the past few years have looked amazing to me.
Of course, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, I'll end up just buying parts and having (e:jason) put a box together for me anyway... we are sticklers for having the right hardware. Speaking of - (e:jason) wants to build a new computer using one of the new Intel Dual Core jobbies.
Apple had many technical problems during the development of the iPhone that I was reading about - it appears as if they solved them. Apple's hallmarks are in simplicity and beauty combined into one product.
The phone will fit the bill, and for those of you who may be critical of the price, also think of it this way - with a 4 or 8 gig disk in the iPhone and the iTunes capability you are going to effectively end up with an iPod Nano/Phone hybrid... in those terms $500 seems somewhat reasonable.
there is no way i could ever justify spending 500 dollars on a phone. AND it doesn't have a keyboard? so they're going to do a touch screen keyboard? i can't imagine how effective that'll be and i wonder what the insurance will cost per month for a $500 price tag, and just like with other apple products the price is NOT going to go down over time, which sucks ass.
I depends on what service you are paying for. I had cingular the year before last and used their edge service with my Nokia 7710. It was able to stream video and music without much problem. I got around 200k/sec. That service costs around $44/month + phone service.
I bet you're going to get a lot of questions about this one ...
Mostly I'm concerned about whether it will be practical to have one in this area. Cingular's casual data service [ie, what I get when I push the wrong button on my phone] is fantastically awful, at least for me. It's too slow to even be able to pretend that the 'wireless web' is usable; I can't imagine what it would be like to try browsing the Real Web with it while polling IMAP in the background.

yeah. I want one. bad. (and I will buy all the apple stuff that vycious won't, and he can have all the windows crap that I boycott ;) )
it looks neat, but i hate apple on sheer premise. after owning my 1 apple product, i can say i will never buy apple again. ever. i would rather cut off my gaming thumbs than to give money to that company again. if you know me, that means a bit.
but i can see where you stand regarding the rest of the situation- allowing the use of all your other devices. that, however, IS a good selling point. for you.
