I Think the Government Is Watching Me
Given the current climate I couldn't wait to put out an ultra-raw super bootleg, straight off the working loop and raw vox, version of the latest DJ Funken Wagnalls feat. Cottonmouth track.
I Think the Governement is Watching Me (http://www.wdog.com/rider/swap/gov.mp3)
I can't fit a sample on (e:Strip), but it's a short track and about 1.5MB download.
Anyway, DJ Funken Wagnalls made a trip to Buffalo, and we recorded 12 songs in 4 days. Amazing, no? We're working on post-production now. It's going to be a good year for DJ FnW feat Cottonmouth, MC. Dave Logan is producing an animated followup to our first video, Futurology (http://www.wdog.com/dlogan/futurology), and it's looking farking incredible. Dave is a prodigy. And we'll have a new website launch in concert with the new album, which we're actually getting pressed and everything (via CafePress of course, ;). So it will be fun for all. Expect cool interactive goodies on the CD, too.
And to address some scary goings on this summer:
The Kurtz thing aside, has anyone heard about this? (http://www.sg1archive.com/nightmare.shtml) I mean, overzealous use of Patriot Act to investigate scientistic apparatus is one thing, but overzealous use of the Patriot Act to justify trashing a Stargate fansite owner's computer equipment on behalf of the MPAA?!? Holy crap. It's as if I feel some kind of brisk shiver which makes me less likely to post stuff to the Web, maybe better described as a _chill_ in the hot summer air... Or maybe that's just Buffalo...
Anyway, that's what I've been up to. What about you?

MUTE
Oh yeah, and the more crafty among you may be interested in this thing I just heard about: the iTMS-4-All Script.
Downhill Battle (http://www.downhillbattle.org/itmsscript/index.html) has released a script that allows users to surf the iTunes music store as if they're using iTunes. The creators want people to use the script in developing opensource applications. They suggest adding the ability for people using opensource filesharing clients like MUTE to use the iTunes interface to call up album and artist information as well as 30 second preview clips of songs found on P2P networks. Wow.

Torrential
And for those otaku geeks on the Strip, check out AnimeSuki (http://www.animesuki.com) for fansubs of anime not available in the US, including the first-run tv series as they show on Japanese television. Pretty geekarific.
And for everything else, *wink* *wink*, there's SuprNova.org (http://www.suprnova.org).
Leave your Torrents open after you download!

the passion of shawnR
In 6th grade I was kicked out of the Catholic church and CCD in my hometown for drawing cat butts in the CCD workbooks and asking provocative questions in class. But it was the cat butt that pushed me over the limit...

Fat Bush
I wanted to make a banner for (e:strip), so I thought, well, who should be on it except the president? Of course! So I made him good and porky and put it into the banner. But then it got little and I thought I'd post the bigger version. Took me about 20 minutes to make the president fat like this... whee! No clone, stamp, or brush tools used...

Andy Cline wrote this great essay that used to be available on his website ( ). Unfortunately, it looks like he's left that school and the document is unavailable.
I'll summarize based on an essay I wrote discussing his approach. He endorsed the Platonic (read: Socratic) approach to dealing with flames and inappropriate posts on class-based discussion groups. I think the same principles can work here. If (e:s) is a site based on building community and social interaction, then the Socratic method of questioning the offending poster could be of some use. The idea is that the group self-censures based on group desire. Rather than deleting or ignoring an inflammatory post, the poster is questioned by members of the group until they either give a legitimate explanation of their view (hard to do in cases of pure trolling) or else they will eventually recant in the face of group pressure.
I'm not saying that this approach can satisfy all situations. And there is the possibility that a more technically savvy attack could be executed against (e:s) in response to topics posted here, and then the Socratic method isn't going to be of much help. But I think it's useful to contemplate all forms of dealing with issues; not just technical restrictions, but group behaviors we could work to develop, too...

Beware the Ides of March
"Ground control to Major Tom: We found a hole in your theory and we named it Shawn."
Must learn Unix better... But that's another story. I'm thinking about rebuilding a box into a media server using the ClarkConnect Linux ISO (http://www.clarkconnect.org). Anyone got any experience with this?
