We Live

I can tell you this -- trying to get a magazine out during the holidays while buying a house and moving is... let's just call it challenging.

The latest GF - vol 2 - is ready to go, with three new writers no less. And so, the process of distribution and word-out-getting begins anew.

To Press With You!

Stopped by Queen City Imaging on Weds to drop off the latest issue. Nice folks up there in Ye Olde College Area -- another part of town that seems to be steadily improving.

1.2

Progress is clipping along on volume 2. A couple new authors have added to the melee of literary action, which is awesome. Joel's latest cover is 100% rad as well.

Now we once again come to discussions on how to market this baby. Getting the word out with a budget of roughly zero is a real challenge, but we've got some ideas percolating.

It continues.

Harvest time is here, so I guess we'd better get down to business on the 2nd issue of GF. We've had a few bites from people interested in contributing, so we;re hoping for a fatter issue this time around. We are also hoping for a phatter issue this time around. I mean, issue 1 was rad and all, but there's always room for improvement.

Questionable

I've started leaving "complimentary" copies of the magazine in waiting rooms. The barber. The dentist. Just bringing 'em in and leaving 'em. I'm a shadowy marketing ninja.

Oh, we're at Queen City Bookstore now, too. Emil is one cool dude, I'll tell you that.

Hmmm....

Well, that BRO article was posted, and we managed to convince Rust Belt Books that aren't an evil corporation so they'd carry our magazine. A week of steady progress, but I'd love to find new ways to get the word out. Maybe I'll rent a zeppelin....

BRO is on the case.

Sent out some mini-press-releases the other day in an attempt to egt the word out about GF. A fellow named Eli from Buffalo Rising contacted me in response, and we held a brief tete-a-tete over the phone today. I'm looking forward to the article, particulary seeing just what the heck I told him. Dang short-term memory!

Out There

I've been wondering how it would sound to say this: Greenfern is now available for purchase at Talking Leaves on Elmwood.

Cool, right? I dropped off a copy about a week ago and got the word today that they would put it on their shelves. Hoofed it over there right quick and dropped off a handful. It was all very official-seeming, what with the signatures and the publishing vocab and all.

The next step is marketing. Joel has graciously given permission to use his cover artwork for flyers, etc. so expect to see it around soon.

They're in

The mags are here, waiting to be sent out in the world to do their great work.

This is the fun part -- figuring out what to do for marketing, how to get the thing in stores, etc. And by 'fun', I mean 'mystifying'. Lots to learn.

On its way

The process of actually getting this magazine printed has turned out to be a bit of a pain, but only because the printer's hours are 9-5 on weekdays. You know, the hours that a lot of people work. Delivering the files (way too big to be emailed), picking up a proof, making revisions, dropping them off, and getting a revised proof becomes a major endeavor when you have to ask off work every time.

The good news is that the green light has been given and we'll have the mags in hand next week. We're doing some funky post-printing stuff which will take a little time, so with any luck next weekend we'll be able to start the "hey, you wanna sell our magazine" project.
