Where are the jobs
Hi all,
So I am in Durham, NC where according to most of the people I am talking to the recession has not hit here. My question is then why can't I seem to find a job or a place that is hiring that is not McD's? I now have 2 masters degrees and one would think that it would not be very hard to get a job, but that is not true.
I have now started volunteering with anyone and any organization that might help me get a job. I am applying to jobs all over the country, but no word on most jobs! what the heck. I have been told that I am very over qualified or I do not have enough work experience. So what the heck am I suppose to do??? More grad school is looking like a good option, but that is not what I want or need to do.
Some people have told me that it takes about 6 months to a year to get a good job right out of school, but what is the time line when NO ONE is hiring?

Contrary to popular opinion up here, the streets of North Carolina are not paved with gold, and I've had friends down there who've gone through patches of unemployment (some who've even been highly paid computer professionals). In general I'd hate to be in Charlotte, but since the financial meltdown I'd especially hate to be there (Wachovia's based there, etc).
Tell me what kinds of things your degrees are in. I'm not exactly an influence peddler or that well connected, but there's a slim chance I might know someone in your field who I could refer you to.
