damn

two things i'll be missing but you really shouldn't..

7:00 p. m. Friday evening February 20 at the Market Arcade a special presentation in the Buffalo Film Seminars: Errol Morris's Academy Award-nominated documentary film Fog of War (2003) (watch the trailer )

It is the story of America as seen through the eyes of the former Secretary of Defense, Robert S. McNamara. One of the most controversial and influential figures in world politics, he takes us on an insider's view of the seminal events of the 20th Century.

From the firebombing of 100,000 Japanese civilians in Tokyo in 1945 to the brink of nuclear catastrophe during the Cuban missile crisis to the devastating effects of the Vietnam War, The Fog of War examines the psychology and reasoning of the government decision-makers who send men to war. How were decisions made and for what reason? What can we learn from these historical events?

As American forces occupy Iraq and the possibility of additional military conflict looms large, The Fog of War is essential viewing for anyone who wants to understand how the American government justifies the use of military force. Combining extraordinary archival footage, recreations, newly declassified White House recordings, and an original score by the Oscar nominated composer, Philip Glass, the film is a disquieting and powerful essay on war, rationality, and human nature.

Diane Christian and Bruce Jackson will introduce the film for a few minutes at 7:00 sharp, we’ll watch it, take a short break, and then talk about it with whoever wants to join us.

restless restless restless

let the world collapse and fall

i can't sit still long enough to concentrate on anything yet lately i am not in town long enough to do anything meaningful. every time i'm ready to get settled, it's time to pick up and leave again.

let it sink and let it shudder

today i am going to pick up my camera and use it.

all the words that i will utter

i am inspired by the fact that it doesn't get darker til later in the day and that it hasn't seemed as cold cold lately.

in hopes your love will soon discover

people seem to be coming out of hibernation and things are slowly picking up. slowly but surely.

lets cut through the bullshit, shall we?

no theatrics, no histrionics, no heroics, please.

after two days of fever-ridden weariness, I've decided I've no time for any more bullshit. i don't want anything disingenuous in my life, be it people or moments. if you share the real you, then i can be the real me. otherwise its a waste of time for everyone. i had a friend, m.f. (real initials, not referring to any cusswords) who wanted to be so nice she did whatever it took to be perceived that way. its not the same as truly being a nice person though. she acted like someone she wasnt and put up with so so much that she prolly didn't want to, and with so much i never would be able to. what is it really all for? and it all felt like a sham. its not for me. the whole deal = the real deal. i am not afraid of the fun, of the awkward, of the raw, of the best, of the less glamourous moments. i hope you are not either.

"
Lies the reason
Faith or treason
Playing a part
End concealing
Try revealing
Open your heart
Dare to feel
Take the chance
Make the deal
"

****
so i was so feverishly unwell i missed the going away gatherings of two long-time buffalonians. but i am looking forward to a reunion of sorts with people who i havent seen or spoken with in a long time. i want to dispel that myth that people come in and out of your life like busboys in a restaurant.

i'm attempting to declutter, which i havent tried since september. it gets better and easier each time, but still... anything to stop my fate from ending up like the collyer brothers. (http://209.157.64.200/focus/f-news/1008564/posts)

[gb sent me this when it was in the nytimes, but it's no longer available full-text. the place i found it is actually from a post on the free republic site (http://209.157.64.200/), home of the FReepers that Mike Niman wrote about in his artvoice column (http://www.mediastudy.com/articles/av3-13-03.html)]
