Windows 8.1 Sucks Too
Category: windows
I cannot believe how crappy windows 8 is. It makes people's complaints about gnome 3 seem so silly. I spent hours getting it downloaded and setup to test our internal authentication system against it after there were reports of it not working. Turns out the internal domain was not set to be trusted. Argh, what a waste of my frickin life. I absolutely cannot stand the interface. It makes what I though was already a terrible OS and makes it so much worse. I think my parents wouldn't even be able to get to the desktop or find their files.

I had some issue registering my license key. The error was cryptic but told me I could find out what it really mean by running some command from the command line. Why not just tell me the real error message.

Then the code pops up another error window that tells you the error message and suggests I call microsoft support by phone. But the link takes you to a page suggesting you look at videos online or look through the forums instead of giving you any phone number.

This is the contact customer support by phone page text, seriously.

I hate it too. I hate how the interface flips between the old and new styles, I hate the lack of start button, I hate the edges that have random things happen and interrupt my workflow. I also hate that getting support "from friends and family" is a recommendation!! FU M$!

Shitty Work Environment
Category: work

Today I moved from a nice office to a shitty cube that literally collects snow through the ghetto, freezing window. I am seriously feeling like this is the beginning of me finding a job elsewhere. I can't believe that at the point I am at in my career I still don't have a pleasant work environment. Today made me want to leave Buffalo altogether.

Sledding at Chesnut Ridge
Category: winter
It was an amazingly sunny and warm 32 today as promised. We were going to go skiing, but seeing as we just recovered from the plague, and have a big night of dancing ahead, we decided to go sledding instead.

On the way there I was reading about Anne Frank's arrest frank No one knows who really turned them in, but on the wiki page there is a snippet about a resistance fighter who had been helping Jewish families escape or hide out had a girlfriend that turned out to be a Nazi double agent. He caught on as the people he was helping, somewhere around 200 families, started to disappear. She turned him into the gestapo who then murdered him. Imagine that. Knowing that your love cost all those people their lives, that your girlfriend was the most backstabbing bitch in the world and that now you are being murdered.

Botanical Gardens
Category: gardens
(E:joe,58524) and (e:terry) and I went to the botanical gardens on New Years Day to recoup with some humid air. I am finally starting to feel better. What I really miss is fall color mode on my Samsung note 3. While the camera hardware is an upgrade the software seems like a step back. Between the lack of manual focus or macro mode and the removal of fall color mode, I just want to go back. My old pics were actually better on the lesser camera. Now I just find my self often frustrated as it focuses on something and then loses focus immediately.

17lbs of Procuitto Di Parma Later
Category: food

My Christmas gift from (e:terry) arrived in the mail this week. Its really 17lbs of boneless procuitto. I always had said I wanted one and now he made that dream come true. Now I need to have a procuitto party and get some non veggie friends who are into procuitto. I still don't know how I am going to slice it. Maybe I should just wait for a slicer for my birthday. Says it should last about 6 months after opening it if I keep oiling the end.

It came from iGourmet which has a real interesting assortment of products. The most expensive product I saw was the Royal Treasure Chest of food for $1000. Literally comes in a treasure chest you could use as furniture according to the description.
