The Viking Lobster Company
Category: food
Went to the Viking Lobster company on Austin and Tonawana with (e:terry) and my parents. The food was amazing, I will definately be back. My mom and I got the Viking Lobster fest for 2. It was so delicious. 2 lobsters, 2 snow crab clusters, haddock, scallops and shrimp with a side of veggies.

They also had this really good clam based salad dressing.

I thought we were agreeing to disagree, so I am surprised at your reaction. I'm sorry if I came off as pushy or preachy. I was trying to be respectful. I didn't tell you not to boil lobsters; I simply provided some factual data and asked you to consider it. You see, some people boil these animals live because they belive lobsters' nervous systems are so primitive that the lobsters don't feel pain. This, unfortunately, is simply not true and some people, when given the facts, might choose to stop boiling them. Some people won't, because they don't care if the lobsters feel pain when they're boiled live. That's fine, and I respect your decision to do what you want to do. It's a free country, and you can do what you like. I just would like people to be aware of the facts and make an informed decision. I do agree with you that it is important to face issues of human injustice, but it's also important to consider the humane and ethical treatment of animals. For me, it's not necessary to choose one or the other. In any event, and I say this earnestly and respectfully, bon appetit!
paul - 09/28/12 11:48
After all of that I forgotten the pics of the lobster. I can't believe no one mentioned that. I fixed it.
lilho - 09/28/12 10:49
It is fine that you choose not to eat animals because you feel they are tortured. However, it is also fine for me to decide that I don't care.

Pushing your opinions and beliefs onto other people is disrespectful and rude. Not sure anyone here is being sensitive, we are just annoyed with you because you are preachy and insistent upon trying to convince others to think as you do.

I tend to think it is more important to face issues of human injustice rather than focusing on the pain of animals that are pretty much sea bugs.
ExBuffalonian - 09/27/12 14:55
Wow, Miss Sensitivity, it's not so much the killing, since all animals we eat are killed; it's more the torture and extreme cruelty I have a problem with. But, hey, I guess it's a harsh reality that the world is cruel and full of people who can ignore "the pain that these creatures will go through for our enjoyment." But then, there are those of us who can't. Just sayin'. btw, I don't really think that having been vegan for five years at one time in your past means anything. It's not like you earned up credits for torturing animals later in your life, and it doesn't really matter how compassionate you USED TO BE. At least that's my opinion, but I respect that you're entitled to yours. I was just putting this out there for conversation and debate. I don't think you're bad people just because you boil live animals. :)
hodown - 09/27/12 12:12
If it's delicious, sustainable and not endangered I will kill it and eat it no issues.
lilho - 09/27/12 12:10
clubbing fish and such...
hodown - 09/27/12 12:08
I actually killed my own lobster a few weeks ago. Dumped it into the pot, held the lid on, boiled it then enjoyed every second of eating it. So yeah can't say that the article will stop me from doing that again. I was vegan for 5 years and I did my time. I have no issue killing my own food, as I have done many times, and then eating it.
lilho - 09/27/12 11:49
ok exbuffalonian.... clearly none of us care. i will speak for (e:paul) (e:hodown) and myself and say that we would all willingly kill our own meat and seafood despite the pain that these creatures will go through for our enjoyment. not to say that we don't like animals(well i really don't unless in a zoo or the wild), but some animals just really aren't that beneficial or exciting to humans and the biggest benefit is the delicious of the meal they can provide for us. so, no we don't really care that lobsters have pain, we love to eat them and will forever and ever amen.
ExBuffalonian - 09/27/12 11:34
So does that mean you didn't click on the link?

"Contrary to claims made by seafood sellers, scientists have determined that lobsters, like all animals, can feel pain. Also, when kept in tanks, they may suffer from stress associated with confinement, low oxygen levels, and crowding. Most scientists agree that a lobster's nervous system is quite sophisticated. Neurobiologist Tom Abrams says lobsters have 'a full array of senses.' Lobsters may feel even more pain than we would in similar situations. According to invertebrate zoologist Jaren G. Horsley, 'The lobster does not have an autonomic nervous system that puts it into a state of shock when it is harmed. It probably feels itself being cut. ... I think the lobster is in a great deal of pain from being cut open ... [and] feels all the pain until its nervous system is destroyed' during cooking."
paul - 09/25/12 16:56
I considered it for five years of being vegan. Now I just consider them delicious. I would kill and eat just about any sea animal and most land animals. I have no problem killing themself as I demonstrated eating live fish out of a lake a few years back.
hodown - 09/25/12 12:32
Lobster is too delicious to consider not eating.
ExBuffalonian - 09/25/12 12:25
Consider the lobster. I am not always onboard 100% with PETA, but this is interesting. Click: :::link:::

matthew - 09/20/12 15:45
Oh, I thought it was Asian. It sounds good, if you put a boiled tomato and baked beans on it, it'd be like an English Breakfast.
paul - 09/19/12 20:45
It is a pile of fried rice with a freshly ground hamburger on top. Then two fried eggs on top of that and then gravy over the whole thing. Its like a heart attack special but its so amazing.
matthew - 09/19/12 20:43
That looks so good! But, what is it?

Why I Hate the Iphone 5
Category: mobile
Its not just because you can't change the battery or upload files in the browser. Its way more selfish than that. I hate it because now all of the regular folk are going to be on LTE and I am going to have to share the amazing bandwidth I have had for the past few months. Its just like how 3g was awesome till the iPhone 3g came out.

Peter Singer - Update 2012
Category: peter singer
So today I receive a phone call from a private number and a man claiming to be Peter Singer. At first I had no idea who that was. He started out saying, you might not know who I am but you have written about me. Then he goes into this story about how I have ruined his reputation by writing about his business scams in 2005 and how he was going to sue me for being libelous. It's not libel if its true, and I was just reporting the facts. Then he asked me as a nice person, could he appeal to me to just take it down. I was starting to consider when at the end of the message he casually mentions that he knew I worked at Roswell and that he knows some doctors there. I immediately responded that I did not respond to threats and hung up.

While he was on the phone with me I thought, maybe its just some guy who was haunted by his unsavory past, I mean anyone can change. So I immediately went to google where I found this very recent post that ties into his previous dealings with ebay. Seems like nothing changes. Unfortunately, the full message has been taken down

I was able to get snippets out of the google description cache by gaming the search.

Apparently they are bankrupt and owned by Peter Singer
::READ PDF::

Here is the backstory. In the mid 2000s a bunch of random strangers signed up for estrip journals to talk about how they were scammed by him. According to their first hand experiences, each of them had a situation where they paid for something and felt ripped off, some of them even won against him (his businesses which kept changing over time) in court.

At some point enough people had gotten together enough evidence that they got a channel 4 news story on call for action and thats when I wrote about it, congratulating them on bringing it to public attention through social media when social media was still in its infancy. There was even a Buffalo News article about his ebay business that used to be on Bidwell.

After looking into it, I wasn't saying anything libelous, I and some others were just reporting on what was happening in the news and other people were writing about their first hand experiences with him. At that point I had even invited him to defend himself online.

my sister definitely does not like this man. i don't remember the whole story but it had to do with an apartment and some sort of deposit. she lost money and he was reluctant to give the deposit back. anyway, i do know his business dealings are shady and he is a jerk.

Last look in nonna's hand mirror
Category: cleaning
I went on another throw out rampage yesterday. I got rid of so much stuff. I am really not a horder but I held onto Nonna's mirror way past its usefulness. It had smashed so many times. The one side just gave out and lost the glass but I always felt bad throwing it out as it was a reminder of her. I decided that I needed to just let go, so I took some pictures of it and said goodbye. In a way its sad because I would see it each morning in the bathroom and think about her. Maybe I should just print the photo and hang it up in there.

When my grandfather dies, I want a poster that they had in their cupboard all my life on how to do the Heimlich Maneuver. It is so out of date and strange to want but it will always make me think of my Grammy.
heidi - 09/17/12 18:56
That's really sweet, Paul. I still have my grandmother's car visor mirror in my truck. It's moved from vehicle to vehicle with me over the years.
