Category: weather
Its 66 right now. Almost 70 and its March 12th. I think I will swim within a week at this rate to beat the record of April 1.

Its going to be almost 70 by thursday
Category: weather
Seems like the tortoises are going to get outside real early this year. I hope the parade weather is awesome. It would suck if we had three beautiful days and then it got crappy out.

metalpeter - 03/12/12 18:03
Buffalo news predicts rain.... But that doesn't mean in rains at the site when the parade goes on so who knows hope it is nice.....

Hiking at Little Rock city
Category: hiking
We headed down to little rock city to enjoy the sun and some climbing. I really need to get back to the gym. Its amazing how much less secure I felt since I lost all the muscle I had gained at the gym. Unfortunately, this was the worst winter ever for exercise. There wasn't really enough snow for winter fun and the gym closed down. That plus I worked too much.

The picture of (e:terry) is so funny. He is so damn white right now. Its like the polar opposite (pun intended) of when you when take a picture of (e:flacidness) in a dimly lit environment.

Web replacing desktop
Category: programs
I am fascinated at the speed at which web apps are surplanting desktop apps. At some point it won't matter which OS you are using as long as the browser works. It also makes me thing Chrome OS has potential for a lot of people.

Here are two chrome apps I tried and liked.

[link=pixlr.com]pixlr[/com] which acts as an online photoshop. Its brought to you by autodesk which are the same people behind Maya and 3D studio max. Basically where all video games and movies are made ,as well as, software that drives auto and industrial design. They even have a firefox and chrome plugin which lets you click on any picture and load it right into pixlr for editing

and audiosauna which can be used to make music. I love the way both of them let you save to your computer.

Oh, then that definitely makes sense. Imagine then, how efficiently they programs are actually written if they load so fast and are able to perform at a level of installed programs! I never thought of that...
paul - 03/10/12 21:20
I think it depends on the type of program. Many of these actually download locally and just execute in the browser, not that each action requires talking back to the server. In that case it should not makes much difference. Just instead of being compiled for whatever windowing toolkit you use on your desktop, it is compiled for the browser.
tinypliny - 03/10/12 20:46
Audiosauna: wow - I have no idea what all that means. I produced some sound but I twisted too many dials and hit too many sliders and sound stopped coming out after a while. A garland of flowers in a monkey's paw.
tinypliny - 03/10/12 20:32
It won't matter as long as your internet connection doesn't suck.

And it's not just my connection specifically. You experienced it in NYC. At work, it takes more than 10 seconds for each page to load. And we supposedly have a fast internet. My pathetic DSL is faster than the net at work.

Skinny Ties Suck
Category: clothes
I am not a big fan of skinny ties. They have come and gone more than once in my own lifetime and I road both times out with the fatter ties. I was looking through some old pics today and saw this picture of my father and uncle (twins) with skinny ties back in his early teens sometime back in the 50s I think. I didn't realize skinny ties went back that far.

I guess the pendulum kept going back and forth. I would be happy if it stayed at around 3.5-4" wide. I researched a bit and found skinny-neckties.com which explains a little about it. The wikipedia article on neckties goes into a lot more detail.
tinypliny - 03/11/12 15:36
Defs rock and roll. Skinny ties = epitome of rock "cool!"
metalpeter - 03/11/12 11:37
Yeah sorry not really awake so didn't follow the links but to me what (e:tinypliny) said is kinda my thought I think of skinny ties as either rock and roll or in Asian Gangster Movies...... Think I might have a brown leather skinny tie..... I think though skinny ties are like the cool factor of dressing up where as the wide ones are more professional ?
paul - 03/10/12 22:32
I have no idea who that is. I will ask him next time I'm there.
tinypliny - 03/10/12 21:56
Wow - you father has a twin! I think the one on the right side looks more like him.. :) Who is the one in the middle. In a weird way, you look more like the one in the middle!
paul - 03/10/12 21:21
No lol, he is one the left side I think. Maybe that's my uncle though.
tinypliny - 03/10/12 20:35
Your father is the one in the middle?! Wow. He looks very different now
tinypliny - 03/10/12 20:34
Skinny ties and cravat rock! I am neutral to things in between.
