I made this recipe tonight (substituting mushroom broth for the chicken broth and adding more fresh dill, fresh parsley, tamari, paprika and lemon juice). I was doubtful while making it but was very pleased with the result. I think I'd try it again with a mushroom medley instead of just portobello. The reviews suggest using a high quality Hungarian paprika instead of something ordinary.

Yum! It is a heavy ipa night, which totally makes up for march's stouts (or last month's icky brooklyn brewery)

Jalapeno?Category: food
I need one jalapeno for the mushroom soup I'm going to make, and I was walking home from the office so I stopped at price rite. You can't buy single jalapenos there. Wtf am I going to do with all of these??

And in a similar vein. Roast tomatoes and jalapenos together to make super awesome tomato-jallapeño chutney. You can even caramelize onions to blend together with fresh cilantro to make it even more interesting!

Brand new idea: Roasted Jalapeño and plum chutney. Roast a good quantity of plums and jalapeños at 350 deg F till they plums start caramelizing. Add some honey and blend to a puree. Add organic orange peel in the blending phase for extra flavour!

Also I just saw an ad the other day that some alcohol maybe southern comfort has a variety with this in it so maybe there is some way to add it to a drink? In fact if you add chopped cilantro along with the jalapeño to the oil and blend it together, it becomes a FABULOUS seasoning when frozen.

That's a really cool (hot?) idea! :)
One more: Chop the jalapeño into small pieces, heat a wok/fry pan, add some olive oil, season with mustard seed and generous coconut flakes, turn the stove off. Add the chopped jalapeños and swirl around for less than a minute). Blend to a fine paste in powerful blender, divide into small bits and freeze. Instant seasoning/heat/spice for future soups!

You can get some tomatillos, onion, lime, s & p, and make some salsa verde. Or put it into some veggie chili. Or dry a bunch.

If you are feeling adventurous, you could make jalapeño pickle. Chop them into discs. Take a HUGE piece of ginger, chop it into roughly same sized bits as the jalapeños. add chopped limes or lemons, salt VERY liberally. Store in a glass jar in the fridge for future use.

Chop them into everything. :)
They last forever if stored in the crisper tray.

Cast & Crew in Mansfield, Pa., is so yummy. Those are spicy mushrooms in my pasta, not meatballs. The sandwich is a bastard chicken something...
heidi - 11/06/11 10:27
The mushroom pasta? It doesn't have a name because the chef improvised it just for me. It's a cream sauce with some spinach. I asked for "something spicy & vegetarian". The restaurant is not even predominantly vegetarian, it's awesome because I can get creative, interesting and yummy food! "Cast & Crew Improvisational Restaurant" is the full name.

What were they called? I bet their menu is interesting. Are they a completely vegetarian restaurant? That pasta looks like its in thai coconut sauce, was it?
