Office!
Category: work
Allen Street Consulting found an office! It's perfectly located, perfect size, perfect lighting, perfect price. I'm so excited!! It's currently painted saturated (e:strip) colors but (thankfully) they're going to repaint.

hehe, yes, it is still my ideal space! But I would paint the walls that verdant greenish gold of i2 if possible. :) I don't like furniture too much and prefer everything on the floor. I LOVE the idea of complete glass walls because then you can have nature paint the walls for you and it would be everchanging and never white. Whatever sparse furniture I would like to have, I want it to be a matte orange. I did try to get the orange shade for my current table but only white was available. My second choice was black but that was not available in the size I could carry on the plane.

What is ironic about all that? :)
heidi - 11/20/11 18:07
Thanks, everyone!!! (e:YesThatCasey) - I like that idea a lot. We'll see what PartnerTBNL thinks.

I find it somewhat ironic that (e:tinypliny) posts this (e:tinypliny,52959) as her ideal space...

I should say IS amazing, your business IS amazing!
libertad - 11/18/11 19:05
congrats on the office, it seems like a really awesome move for you guys. i really want white walls. im sick of colored walls, i would rather have nice wallpaper than any color other than white right now. anyways, your business seems amazing and i wish you both much success.
YesThatCasey - 11/17/11 20:45
Heidi, my vote would be for the shade of blue used on the cards and site. Everyone has loved it so far, and I think it would work well for a professional space, perhaps even as the main color.
tinypliny - 11/17/11 20:14
Maybe accent walls with darker shades might work if you are showing off art. I think that is what they do in galleries.
tinypliny - 11/17/11 20:13
Could be a problem in the winter... OR maybe it could reduce heating costs as black tends to hold on to all heat/light.
metalpeter - 11/17/11 19:57
No But I think that it could make all the things on the wall really stick out as long as the frames are a color other then black.... Think you would need a lot of light so that the place doesn't feel like a cave.......
tinypliny - 11/17/11 19:52
hmm.. have you been in a room that is jet black for a long period of time, say 8 hours.
metalpeter - 11/17/11 19:35
Doesn't have to be white to be professional..... There are other bland colors (picture a sterotypical house is the burbs....HA).... I myself would love (has to be the right one and you have to know how to clean it) Jet black That with the orange would look like Halloween or something.....
tinypliny - 11/17/11 18:40
It's going to be awesome, I am sure. Plants are wonderful (if you are not anything like me. I just kill them all eventually). I was replying to (e:metalpeter)'s comment about professional being linked to white. I am sure this office will have personality oozing in every corner. Doesn't your card have bottle green on it?

Olive (army green) is my least favourite shade of green along with certain toxic looking fluorescent greens (which I like to call mausoleum green). I admit I like more leafy warm bright saturated greens with yellow gold thrown in... and most shades of orange.

heidi - 11/17/11 18:28
It's yellow (walls - see third pic), orange (main trim) and an icky light olive (the top of the door frame). It is not the former tanning salon. I happen to like white and the airy spaciousness it gives. I suggested the partnerTBNL could choose a non-orange trim color. I can't imagine that it's going to feel impersonal; we've already got a bunch of stuff on our walls in the current office. We're going to have lots of plants, too. West facing windows! (And air conditioning.)
tinypliny - 11/17/11 18:24
professional =/= bland or even impersonal. Colors are a scientific way to achieve productivity, establish relatioships, and emphasize signatures. But then white is a mixture of every colour on the planet. :)
tinypliny - 11/17/11 18:21
White reminds of my old workplaces too much. ;-) Why not go a bit off-white, if that is the direction you are headed?
tinypliny - 11/17/11 18:19
HEY! is that the former tanning salon?? But they had eye popping yellow walls (also on my super-likey! list)

one of my favourite professors has that green on his walls. I always lingered on in his office just a little longer because it's just so awesome. I cannot make out what exact shade of green that is but I would like it more saturated and more bright.
tinypliny - 11/17/11 18:15
wow, I adore those colours. A couple years back, I briefly considered painting all my walls a bright vivid green (my i2 colour at work). But my idea didn't go down too well with the management. I am also very fond of orange furniture and things in general. :) heh
metalpeter - 11/17/11 18:15
I like the orange but the yellow greenish is kinda wacky.... But it is better then white .... Of course this is going to be a professional place so you have to have professional colors that match your business cards.....
heidi - 11/17/11 18:00
It's on Franklin, right off Allen. I can't imagine having to work within those colors, although the partner-to-be-named-later finds white to be too glaring, which is the color it will be painted. The prior tenant's desks are even orange. Ew!
YesThatCasey - 11/17/11 15:22
Oi, those colors are atrocious.
tinypliny - 11/17/11 15:09
Is it on Allen? And you are going to say no to the awesome green and orange??!

Hungarian mushroom soup
Category: food
I made this recipe tonight (substituting mushroom broth for the chicken broth and adding more fresh dill, fresh parsley, tamari, paprika and lemon juice). I was doubtful while making it but was very pleased with the result. I think I'd try it again with a mushroom medley instead of just portobello. The reviews suggest using a high quality Hungarian paprika instead of something ordinary.
