Love Someone Tonight
Instead of driving home from work on like the 290 or 190 to thruway to 33 or scajaquada or whatever highwayish way I used to go , I've instead been just driving straight down main street from Williamsville to home. I swear it only takes a few minutes more and is a much more pleasant drive. Mind you I wouldn't do it at like 5 but when I get out at 9 or 11 and there is little traffic it just is a pleasant drive I really enjoy for some reason. I usually listed to Delilah where people call in and she plays sappy love songs. I love it, always have and it is a nice end to my day. I am so glad I started driving home this way instead, for some reason I swear it makes work seem better. AND to top it all off last night they played Kokomo by the Beach Boys which is like my all time favorite song ever! Ever! EVER!! I MEAN EVER! NEVER TO BE TOPPED BY ANY OTHER SONG! When I was young if it would come on when we were driving home I would make my parents keep driving around the block until the song was over (and they would , was I a brat? unsure).

Anywho, this post was really supposed to be about Delilah letting me down a little. She has always done commercials for products and she suppossedly uses and loves them all but this latest one seemed extra scammy. It is for some pill that cures eczema, asthma and everything else. Not a prescription but like an otc vitamin of some sort. And she talks about how this pill is a gift from god and helped out her daughter so much. I feel like that is really playing on her core listeners and they trust her so much and will be like "a pill from god, well gosh darn it I need that!". I just didn't like it Delilah...... but i still love your show and will listen forev!

It's Omega XL , here's the link

And lets end this with a little kokomo,...ok wait I was gonna post a video but am gonna make it a whole new entry
lilho - 10/23/11 03:50
i would like to say i have always loved/hated delilah. my mom and i used to bond over making fun of her. and about the kokomo... i always wanted to go to the places in the song, and they played it on the party bus in aruba and it was the best thing ever.
metalpeter - 10/22/11 16:40
I for fun looked around a bit and on Netflix you can get it but not instantly watch it... Now You tube you can watch it for a 3.99 fee so for now I watched something else but I will see it at some point...
tinypliny - 10/22/11 14:18
that documentary made me want to ditch all fiction movies in the future. Life is so interesting just as it is. Why not explore it further instead of inventing fiction?
tinypliny - 10/22/11 13:54
I checked out so many books in my first few months here. So maybe that was why I was at the library all the time. I agree it could be hard when you don't have a reason to frequent the library as often. The validation is easy to forget. They should have a one step instead of a two step process. If they made it more complicated it certainly won't count as the least red-tape library. I am comparing it to the Rochester/California/NYC systems, which seems more complicated - enough so that I was discouraged from getting memberships for the time I stayed in those places (and had proof of residence from my brother).
tinypliny - 10/22/11 13:49
yikes. well, I don't even remember having validated now... Maybe they changed the process? It was one of the first memberships I got when I came here. I think I just gave them a copy of my ID and my lease, they gave me a temporary number and at the end of the temporary period (21 days, I think), I returned to the library to verify something and they handed me the keytag. I have never had any validations or even checks or anything since.
heidi - 10/22/11 13:35
Buffalo Public Library is the "least red-tape library"? I feel like I've been through so many ID validations and check-ins that I should get more than a keychain tag. I think my borrowing privileges have been revoked because I failed to make the last check-in/validation date. :-p
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:52
Wow, this article and interview is really well done about the São Paolo no-ads campaign! :::link:::

metalpeter - 10/22/11 11:50
We shall see right now I'm off to get some cupcakes and see what flyers are posted at Zillycakes.... (hoping there is a zombie walk this weekend or next like last year)...
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:46
The crane branch is waaay nearer but their copy is out right now.
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:46
They only ask you to show a valid ID, a current bill/lease and you are all set. BPL is seriously the least red-tape library I have experienced.
metalpeter - 10/22/11 11:42
I'm going up on elmwood soon not I don't even have a valid card I have and old temp... One but that was pre shut down......
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:39
Getting it from the library seems like a faster way. You could take a walk to central right now and walk out with it.

Btw, the pics of São Paulo without ads are here :::link:::
Guess I don't need to do a post. :)
metalpeter - 10/22/11 11:37
So That means it is on Video so may try and see if it is on netflix first and then go from there... I really want to see it...
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:34
And some very interesting things, did you know, for instance that São Paulo has a complete ban in place on outdoor advertising? it was so weird. I need to do a picture post. I am not sure what I prefer. Color and crazy ads or blank uniform walls.
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:22
My favourite scenes are when he spots this weird brand of shampoo called "Mane & Hair" and when they agree to be in the film (he just puts them in there because they return his call, and not because they pay sponsorship). He later shows his promised promotion clip where he, his son and a shetland pony are using Mane & Hair in the bathtub. And then there are all these crazy interviews, one with Quentin Tarantino where the director just finishes telling him that ads are only obvious when it is jarring and completely incongruous. We pan back and we see a bottle of Ban deodorant sitting on the table in front of them for no obvious reason. It was so hysterical and caustic. Loved it.
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:15
Here's the call number: PN1995 .G665 2011V (I think you can find it in Central. I just saw that it's listed as being re-shelved (probably after I returned it))
tinypliny - 10/22/11 11:14
Neither. I checked it out from the Buffalo Public Library. Both the Crane and Central branches have one. Place a hold on it. It's very popular. My online is so pathetic that watching youtube videos is a patience-testing challenge. And I have got so much attention-deficit and guilt that I cannot watch more than 15 minutes in a setting. The movie took me a whole week to watch, and I only finished it because the DVD was due back and I didn't want to pay the fine.

But it was an excellent movie. Makes me want to watch all of his other works *and* recommendations. :::link:::

Quite strangely he reminds me a lot of (e:Matthew). His manner of speaking and accent are very much like (e:Matthew)!
metalpeter - 10/22/11 11:04
@(e:Tinypliny) I'm a fan of Morton Spurlock and wanted to see that... Did you go see it in person or online and if online what site?
tinypliny - 10/22/11 10:59
I watched this documentary called "The Greatest Movie Ever Sold". It was very interesting. All about product placement and how it operates behind the scenes.
tinypliny - 10/22/11 10:56
Several studies now point to the fact that taking extra micronutrients (vitamins and mineral) when you are not really deficient in any of them increases your chances of dying.

What did her daughter have?
metalpeter - 10/22/11 10:51
I don't listen to Shred and Regen (however you spell their names on the EDGE) that often they are good but just on at the wrong time and heard to listen also if you are online reading stuff like here or facebook or whatever.... The Point is I kinda feel the same way when they do ads... It implies that it is product they are into.... But see that isn't the case.... This is how Radio use to be it would be live then the person doing a show would do an ad same thing with TV that is how the Soap Operas got there name since the advertisers where soap... Some of the most famous sports events if you think Tennis where advertisers names at one point ...... But we here the name and it kinda sounds like a place then later we go oh that is a cig. company or what ever... The point is that is what the Advertisers work.... Here is this guy that we trust so we will trust the ad.... There is a new form of this on the internet called Gorilla marketing... Where a company pays a person to hype up there product through the web and there personal connections....
paul - 10/22/11 10:39
I definately prefer driving down streets to highways. Besides being more pleasant, there is much less chance of you dying in a horrific car crash at 30mph.

I wonder if that stuff will cure my geographic tongue.

And to answer you question, yes, you were a brat.

my favorite spot

tinypliny - 10/12/11 00:51
Looks somewhat creepy, desolate and lonely from that angle. I was wondering what in the world it was till I read the comments.
mike - 10/10/11 22:00
yup, sure is
paul - 10/09/11 17:23
The cyclorama building?

Sad Movies
Not sure how I got on this kick but Youtube takes you in strange places and somehow I got from Keke to StepMom with a stop at Prayers for Bobby in between. I don't know why I like to watch things I know will make me cry and cry and cry but I can't stop. Prayers for Bobby is super sad and super good but to me Stepmom is the ultimate saddest movie of all time. I can never make it through it in one piece even though I have seen it a bazillion times.....

This scene is emotional enough and starts the tears rolling:

And then it's all over...sobbing,snotty mess

tinypliny - 10/07/11 10:33
man, I have never heard of the movies on your favourite list.
mike - 10/07/11 10:27
no it was A Prayer for Bobby , a lifetime original movie staring Sigourney Weaver.
tinypliny - 10/07/11 10:01
Except that it has Scarlett whatever-her-fakey-other-name-is, I don't like her. She is annoying.
tinypliny - 10/07/11 09:34
You mean "A love Song for Bobby Long": :::link:::

I like that movie. It's beautifully done. I saw it over 3 months but it was one of those movies where you can't lose the thread of the story even if you are watching in small 15 min breaks. It has some really excellent acting.

So good you could break a nail in it
For Paul:

tinypliny - 10/07/11 01:13
heh, I am sure I don't. The title was different earlier... Now it makes semantic sense
paul - 10/07/11 01:02
You have no idea.
tinypliny - 10/07/11 00:24
LOL, that title now makes sense!
