UFO over city hall!!
Category: the odes
Probably the shot that will make the alternative freaky tabloids alongside how the dingo ate the baby.

Netinstall debian with XFCE
Category: linux
With my continuing troubles and hiccups with Gnome 3 on Fedora 15, I am sorely tempted to migrate to this:
image
(From omnsproject blog: )

Clean and minimalist netinstall Debian with XFCE 4.8 featuring transparencies that work, highly non-technical customizable menus that can be shifted easily to the right side and most importantly, no unexplained freeze-ups and cursor changes right in the middle of a coding session which force me to reboot either RStudio or the system altogether. *sigh*

Yes, it could be a driver issue. The thing is drivers included on debian/ubuntu/fedora are very different. Everything has it own quirk. This stupid laptop was only put together with windows and ubuntu in mind, both of which are NEVER going to be on it EVER if I have my way.

Wow the spell corrector on my phone consistently chooses the wrong words.
paul - 08/05/11 21:06
That was supposed to say, ya, you don't need to keep switching Linux variants to change desktops. Thats one of the core differentiations between Linux and the other OSes. The core OS and the desktop GUI are not one synonymous. It was easier to just install xfce on fedora using yum. Then when you login you can choose xfce instead if gnome 3.

I would be surprised if you didn't have similar issues though. For example I get no freezing which makes me think there are issues with your hardware or the drivers for your hardware, neither of which will change by switching desktop managers.
tinypliny - 08/05/11 21:02
You are speechless? ;-)
tinypliny - 08/05/11 21:02
I know, but I am not sure that all these mess-ups are the doings of Gnome 3 alone.

Round and Round
Category: the odes
...went this vodka blimp all day long.
image
Though I am guessing downtown Buffalo does pretty well on its own without this reminder on a Friday evening.
tinypliny - 08/06/11 15:51
heh, no they are not giving out any samples. It is just a blimp tour and a promotion to make bartenders promote their brand... or something. I didn't spend much time investigating the specifics. I am all about the blimp. ;-)
metalpeter - 08/06/11 13:02
What Brand was it for? And why didn't they Drop free Samples?! Ha.... What Vodka out of Plastic that wouldn't break and maybe bounce a bit would be safe!? Missed this somehow.....
tinypliny - 08/05/11 20:14
Could have been had they thrown banana bread from the blimp.

It is still going round and round and round and round. It looks like a lone whale in the vast expanse of the azurean blue steaked with clouds and the setting sun.
paul - 08/05/11 20:03
I thought this was a figurative reference to your new addiction.

I have to admit, these are my favourite pics from last week (e:tinypliny,54816) Unfortunately, they got cropped in the earlier post. So I extracted them from the phone SD card. They are so awesome, they needed to be out here at higher resolution!

Seriously, what is with that conspiracy-theory look? I dug this pic up to see if you really had a big nose as you claimed.
image
You don't. Most people in that sample frame have as big or even bigger noses than you do.

Well... except for that girl who is sitting on the grass. She really does have a rather compact nose.

tinypliny - 08/04/11 02:01
Well that job description was vacant after you totally wimped out! It's all your fault.
paul - 08/03/11 23:34
Now who's obsessed with keith?!
