Festival wristbandCategory: school
Nope, just bar exam. Gotta wear it till tomorrow afternoon.
heidi - 07/27/11 17:42
I think about 12,000 people took it in NY this session. They're held twice a year, July & Feb. This is to be eligible for a license - need the J.D., the multistate professional responsibility exam, the bar exam, and to pass the character & fitness review. Once you hold a license, you don't have the take the exam again for that state, you just have to do some continuing education each year. But to practice in another state you have to meet their requirements also. For me, that means I'm taking the PA bar exam in February. I could waive in with the NY license and five years experience but I don't have that much time to waste!

So how many people take these bar exams? And are these held only once a year? Are these the standard exams that you have to take for re-licensing/re-certification/whatever you call it?

No, just standard wristband like they use at Thursdays and festivals. I guess it makes it quicker to get through security. The line to get in started at the front door of the convention center, went north to W. Huron, across Huron to Pearl, then all the way around to W. Mohawk behind the convention center. I left my apartment at 7:25, waited for a nonexistent bus, and walked down, got there at 7:50, and didn't get in my seat until 8:50, maybe 8:55. Exam started promptly at 9. it was absurd.

Yes you could tell them it isn't that bar exam you came up with the idea for the coors ad and now you have to wear to get into bars free? .........

Day one done!Category: school
I was really dreading the New York-focused day of the bar exam. I had lost so much time that I just barely got through all the material and didn't have time to go back and review and learn what I needed to know, so trying to regurgitate elements of crimes and torts and stuff would be really difficult, which it was. I watched the lectures on how to do an essay (there are 5) and got the format down, thank goodness. There was lots of stuff I didn't know and made up, but I followed the format and that will get me probably 1/2 credit for each one. The Multistate Performance Test was easier than I thought it would be. It could have been difficult like "draft a will" or "write a motion to..." which I wouldn't have even known how to format the damned thing - which is points all on its own, but it ended up a memo very similar to one I did for a class last semester. Easy peasy.
A few weeks ago I almost bailed on taking the exam this time because of not having enough time. A, (e:Terry) and a law school friend who is now an attorney convinced me to just suffer through and take it (or maybe that was "STFU and study"), that my chances were still good. Statistical verification of that
Tomorrow: 200 multiple choice questions spread over six hours. Yippee!!!
I feel like I should write myself some notes to remember for taking the PA bar in February but I can't think of anything at the moment.
Much love and appreciation to (e:PuddleDiving), (e:Terry), A & Uncle Dudley!

" And if you think you can't get down with a hula hoop, Campbell begs to differ: "I have plenty of extra hoops," she says, "and can teach anyone in minutes."
