Glen Park?Category: outside
I waited for a while at Glen park in Williamsville while (e:terry) took his test yesterday. It was beautiful out but I felt so old as there were so many teenage lovers walking around holding hands.

We drove down Main St for years before we knew this park existed. I think it is one of Williamsville's open secrets.
(e:tinypliny) - my guess is that Glen here is used the same as it is in "watkin's glen" in which "A glen is a valley, typically one that is long, deep, and often glacially U-shaped; or one with a watercourse running through such a valley. Whittow [1] defines it as a "Scottish term for a deep valley in the Highlands" that is "narrower than a strath."" :::link:::
Believe it or not, I know people who think that the best years of their lives were their teenage years and that their lives have been going down hill since then. On the other hand, my teenage years were miserable and being the pollyanna that I am, I think that the best is yet to come.

I see teenagers and I think... wow, these people have a long way to go before they grow out of this phase. I am usually glad I am not in their stupid shoes.

Did they name it after Watkins Glen... talking of which, I really want to go back and do the 3.5 mile hike once more. It was so much fun!

Fedora 15 Gnome Shell 3Category: linux
I am loving Fedora 15 and gnome shell despite what some other people are saying. It installed with everything including 3d right out of the box. You can get it yourself here

I was excited to try out the new Bootable network based installer
that adds a simple option to your grub installation and then installers new versions of fedora over the network without any install media but unfortunately I no longer have an accessible ethernet at home.

Is the network based installer the minimalistic one that does not even install xorg until you specifically tell it to?

I gave up on Fedora 14 after having problems with LVM. I didn't feel like starting all over and reinstalling after a failed attempt at LVM resizing. The fault was mine but I figured it was a sign.
Perhaps I'll give Fedora 15 a "spin" I'm looking for a new distro for my new box. I promised myself that I would try the Ubuntu it came with for 6 months and the 6 months are up. Right now, I'm running Ubuntu 11 with e17 and unity and gnome classic. On another parition I'm running E17 on Archbang. I was too lazy to do an Arch install from scratch.
Maybe this time will be the time that I stick with Fedora.

Timewarner Live Chat SucksCategory: web
It seems unreal that in 2011, Timewarner's support center online live chat help system is using user agent detection instead of browser capability detection to allow for chat. At least they should upgrade the agent compatibility list.
WIndow 98 or higher with IE 5 or 6
OR Max OS 10 with IE 5, netscape 6, or Safari 1.0
I am sure it would would in firefox and especially in chrome if it works in safari. Its the result of such lazy web programming. I you find this and need help time warner, you can hire me as a consultant.

I have come to a conclusion that all ISPs are basically pure masses of evil when their facade slips away. They intentionally make it next to impossible to speak or communicate with anyone human. Verizon has this time-wasting "user-agent" that is just an über lame speech recognition algorithm program that feeds you automatic and totally irrelevant "troubleshooting" steps everytime you call them for support. Not that their India-based tech reps are any better. The worst are the ones that obviously don't have a clue what to say and put you on an interminable hold just to pander to their stupid egos. HATE them all.

There's always changing the user agent string. Alas, even when that works, its a workaround that allows Time Warner to continue their stupidity.
In addiction terms, it's enabling behaviour

I think water itself has that many sediments. Didn't you tell me that there was some serious grime on your water filter.
