Mike and his alter ego
Category: toys
Its as if they took his soul and made a puppet of it.

That is so cute! (e:Mike) you REALLY resemble Prince William A LOT.
mike - 05/22/11 16:52
I really do feel like that is how I feel on the inside. Like I expect to see that when I look in the mirror haha

Down by the river
Besides the drama with the deer it was an interesting trip down to Broderick park. I just can't believe how much garbage is down there. (e:libertad) said it was all clean from the river cleanup.

I found this stuffed animal mass grave from a memorial to the guy that drowned last year. While I think its s great idea to have a memorial there should be a requirement to clean it up when its decaying. Imagine if there was this much gargage around for every person that died.

(e:libertad) and I discussed the rocks and how people put them there. I still can't really imagine how they pile them up.

I wish I could compost all my vegetable/kitchen scrap. I found that my brother has this nifty composting service that comes to the farmer's market at Union Square, where people bring their weekly kitchen scrap and they take them away for composting. In a city with a dearth of personal land, it's a brilliant idea. :::link:::
We should have that in Buffalo.
tinypliny - 05/26/11 21:11
Why can't people plant trees and clean up as a memorial tribute? Some cultures believe that the spirit of the living enter everlasting trees and perennials when the mortal body dies.
tinypliny - 05/26/11 21:10
I disagree, I am not sure memorials are such great ideas... It's hard to justify throwing synthetic fabric and plastic and kill living species and plantlife for someone who has already died. I thinks memorials, like every other thing, lose their meaning when they degrade into crappy commercial hallmark card-like polluting gestures.
libertad - 05/23/11 15:13
I really thought that we should have thrown those stuffed animals away during the clean up but everyone thought we should leave them because they are a memorial. All that stuffing is going to get into the waterways now.

I'm really disgusted with people and their trash. People's apathy and disregard is so widespread that it becomes very disgouraging to me. It's hard to want to continue to clean up when almost immediately fisherman and other people just throw their crap all over the place.

Deer stuck in the rocks
Category: animals
There is a deer stuck in the rock breakwall on squaw island. It a bit bloody and can't seem to get up. (e:libertad) called the spca. If anyone else knows who can deal with this. Here is the location.

tinypliny - 05/26/11 21:19
What happened in the end?? Did the deer manage to break free and back into the wilderness? Did the SPCA rescue it? Did the officers end up with lyme disease, or did the deer fall into the creek and drown? This is like a story without a denouement!!
libertad - 05/21/11 21:50
Paul got in contact with SPCA somehow and they promised to send someone out if he went back and saw if it was still there. When Paul went back he couldn't find it. I called channel 4 and told them it was taken care of.

We wonder now what the fate of the deer was?
libertad - 05/21/11 20:32
I called channel 4 and spoke with Luke Smith. I told him that I paged SPCA Wildlife Emergency Line and DEC Officer Wilson and that neither responded. I also let them know that the deer rehabilitation people were unable to assist. He said that he would see what he can do. I explained how it needed to be dealt with in some manner as it would be rotting in a popular fishing spot.
paul - 05/21/11 19:46
I have talked to everyone I know trying to find someone with a gun. I guess its hopeless.
libertad - 05/21/11 19:27
I wish I had the guts to go and knife it. I'm afraid of deer ticks anyways. This is a very popular spot for fisherman and if nobody does anything it is going to smell so bad.
paul - 05/21/11 18:59
This is yet another reason I wish I had a gun.
libertad - 05/21/11 18:32
At this point it just looks like it is going to die a slow death there. The SPCA and DEC Officer have not returned the pages I left them. Did speak to some deer rehab people and they didn't think they would be able to assist in this situation. Poor thing, I guess I wish we didn't go to Squaw Island today.

Take Two
Category: acting
Mike has a Hollywood sign. I think it could provide a lot of fun if (e:lilho) was here.

tinypliny - 05/26/11 21:21
LOL @ (e:lilho)'s comment. So fancy is another term for an "upper class character". lol
lilho - 05/21/11 17:29
that would be fun. all pg rated of course. what is better than dressing up and acting fancy???? i say fancy because i would only want to play an upper class character.

Melting Pot
Category: food
It was fun but a bit expensive. I also found that I overcooked a bunch of the meat. As (e:Mike) put it, I prefer when someone cooks for me. By the end I was stuffed. The weirdest part was that our Booth was in an internet dead zone like those crazy commercials.

So the server has to tip the bartender and the busers? That doesn't make any sense....
tinypliny - 05/26/11 21:23
Wait? You cooked your food at a restaurant? What kind of a "restaurant" is this? Do they allow you access into the kitchen? How can that be sanitary with so many people going in and out... you know what they say about too many cooks, they don't lie.
libertad - 05/21/11 09:31
I don't like Melting Pot for the same reason, when I go out to eat I don't want to cook my food. Julie works there and she has to do so much work as a server and there are all these people who screw her over on tips. She complains about Canadians all the time. Sometimes they even lose money when they don't get tipped enough because they still have to tip out the bartender and the busers.

Did you get a salad?
